I think the answer to (1) is that there is no surpise at all.

The answer to (2) is also that there is no surpise at all.

As for the woman-hating NPC trader, well, I think everyone would agree that Teppie was within his rights to do such a thing. The question is whether that was the best way to interject drama into his game. People will argue about that, but I don't know of anyone calling for shutting him down or gagging him.

i am glad to see that there was a nice party and that everybody had a good time. it is wonderful to behold and the joy i feel about this is shaking my soul to its very roots.

now here are my questions:

(1)why does it seem novel to people that the government might show up and limit speech and behavior in so called virtual worlds, given the present political climate and the accompanying apparent disregard for such documents as the bill of rights?

(2) why does it seem novel to people that a large multi-national corporation might be interested in establishing its own, non-bill-of-rights-based system of governance for applications etc that it appears to have the title to?

because this is what puzzles me about virtual worlding and it puzzles me in the extreme. i read all this regal academic nonsense about the possibilities of government and corporate control of expression and my first impulse is: ya think??? huh?? maybe??

and then we talk about member misbehavior? and please tell me what does THAT mean? ok i know: its some guy who didn't read his betty friedan and camille paglia. so what?? now if the guy had been a chick and he was setting up shop to spank boys or something, well that's fine. so there's like gender discrimination there in reverse. & why is that more weird or less weird than somebody signing up to be a virtual sex toy and talking like a fictional version of 19th century france? or somebody else deciding that they need wings? is the goal of second life about running a virtual iowa?

i am a female and i am totally in support of the developers who "refused to take a stand against the trader".

i hate PC and i think that all this crap about "misogynistic" (and please can somebody tell me why the holy fuck these idiots can't just say "woman-hating" is it not a smart-enough word???) behavior". furthermore i understand why they'd want to do something like that, take that stance to provoke activity. people are so fucking boring. really.

the only real reason that the discussion of free speech is taking place at all is because there isn't any.

love from me

After doing shots of Goldschlager, things got kind of fuzzy. So I am glad to see that I apparently had an awesome time. Woop!

Thanks for posting the pics, Uri. Great to hang out with you and everyone.

Death, the thing you have to realize is it takes a crowbar to open Phil's wallet. I mean, I got there and they were drinking Rolling Rocks. It wasn't until things went on the Herald expense account that the Cris and caviar started flowing.

Ian, yeah Phil is married, but that doesn't mean we should expect him to keep his hands off me. I mean who could resist??!
