yay.... just stay out, Pixeleen. In fact, I was online the whole time on Sunday, able to TP around just fine.

Maybe it's time for your connection upgrade?

Hmm, I'd never heard of Linden Lab until recently, when I actually got into Second Life. Looking around, Second Life is their first product.

That said, Linden Lab is not Blizzard, Epic, Square enix, or any other big name company. They cannot afford the hardware they need at this time (not without shortchanging the oh so holy Premium members and Island buyers that is) and yes they did rush into it. They had something they wanted to share with everyone and they did not want to wait to do it.

The sooner this sinks in, the better.

Hey, call me dildo..we're all pals in TeH metverse ain't we?

So you're a lucky guy eh?
Get to chuckle with the big cheese of the code noodle factory over the odd little programming hassle of wrastling with Teh Big bad metaverse code challenge?

See that's the nub of the whole problem...having a "sense of humour" about the code base is ... I'm sorry ...JUST PLAIN FUCKING WRONG IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING TERMS.

Does Epic laugh about the core tech in Unreal 3? Or, more likely, do they talk about it as would the folks at Ferrari about their machines?

I could go on...but I think the point is obvious.

Not to split hairs, Mr. D. Baggins, but Cory's actually confirmed that yes, it's THE flying spaghetti monster:
http://www.venganza.org/

He does, however, have a great sense of humor about the code, but his avatar is not one example of it. :)

I think dildo is implying that a serving of spaghetti is akin to the SL code- messy! This may be true. If SL's problems were related only to inadequate hardware, I think LL would've said so by now.

"uh dildo, The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a statement about religious belief (or lack thereof) not code..."

mmm...as you wish...but somehow I suspect it's more about code quality (or lack thereof) not religion...at least that is my belief, and I'll stick to that thanks.

The quality of the overstressed overhyped gilded flying spaghetti turd speaks for itself.

And before we get lamer Lidnen Lab wannabees like Gwyneth Llewelyn writing more disguised job blog postings along the lines of "but it's so difficult writing these sorts of applications, of course it will be unstable, blah blah blah...think of the programmers!"

FACT: A prototype is NOT a product and should not be sold as such. Did the dot bomb fiasco teach people nothing? [apart from be a VS and inside trade like a mofo]
FACT: Paying customers demand and should receive a certain QOS. Not corporates who are writing off their 10K as early stage R&D, but the consumers who kept LL alive and are now being shat on big time. Talk about corporate values...or lack of them.

whatever...roll on Unreal 3 engine.

I haven't spent over 2 hours in second life since they can no longer load current events without some sort of search to find an event or place listing. I imagine it's like this for alot of people like me. I can't find anything worth a shit to do because the events list never comes up. I just log in and go to a poker game because thats the only group I belong to that sends events invite to members regularly. I have little interest in just flying around aimlessly untill I land on some interesting venue.

I don't want to search constantly for things to do. I want a list of things going on when I log on so I can pick and choose. Maybe I didn't log on to take part in a discussion about quantum physics but a curious discussion happened to be going on at a time I'd have nothing else to do so I'd attend. I can't do this now because the events list never shows up for me.

Basically the development of SL has followed the commonly know software engineering anti-pattern of "The Gilded Lily". A prototype is whacked together to demonstrate a proof-of-concept, then, instead of using that as a design basis...it is rushed into production as an actual product base and so starts the spaghetti code race to gold plate the turd.

It's rather telling that Cory's inworld AV [or one of them] is a spaghetti monster...and while it's good to have a sense of humour about software development in this case I think it speaks volumes about how internally they view their own product. THAT is not funny. Come to your own conclusions about what that really means.

Has anyone read any analysis by unergeeks of the open sourced client code? There must be some interesting observations there? Links?
