I can't help but agree Maria. I think camping chairs are an abuse of the system. There's no doubt they totally invalidate the traffic system and they lag sims unnecessarily by causing un-used avs to congregate (avs themselves are arguably one of the laggiest things on the grid).

However, that said, some of them are pretty ingenious. I saw a drive-in movie with cars and speakers and the whole works... plus a movie playing on the screen 24/7. The toilet one above is a bit creative. And I enjoyed hearing about the guy standing on a ladder painting. It could be argued that these items actually add to the environment-- and probably do when compared with the "blah" ugly chairs in a room.

If a person is going to use camping chairs... at least the "chairs" can be creative and fun and offer a chuckle in the process. Then people might not object so much to their use.

But they still do cause sims to lag unnecessarily. No matter where you are.... stick 30 avs on a sim and it's going to slow down considerably.

Plus, I have a question: how is it that camping chairs offer any degree of advantage over the competition when every nutcase on the grid is using camping chairs? I mean, if you have 200 sims using camping chairs... what do traffic figures mean anyway? They'll all have virtually the SAME traffic, as the same number of people sit in the same number of chairs...

One just has to wonder. Don't they have anything better to do with land costing them $295 a month?

Linden Lab should just shut off the traffic concept for good. It's as outdated as the old subsidizing sim fees concept that was used to get SL going.

When i was told about the Camp Chair Prison idea the other day, And the toilets it made me Laugh. Yes, i Know camp chairs are supposed to be Evil, but i still thought it was Funny.
Even if you don't like the chairs, you can't fault the highly creative things that are being done with them.

Maria.

At least make them port-a-potties with a door so you can amuse yourself watching the campers open the door on each other..and an animation when you click the door so the person has a surprised look...hahaha better yet when the camper gets up have a flexible piece of toilet paper stuck on his heel...

it's just hard to give a crap about this. the idea of camping pisses me off in the first place. this just looks like bathroom humor to me. the author has a potty mouth. you people need to get your mind out of the sewer and back on sex where it belongs. don't try to pretend you did not have that book in there.

Wonderful ! I love new ideas . I went to see the toilet and is just great. Of course missing some toilet paper :))
I don't find it so expensive cuz the items are mod and copy.
I remember i bought a camping bucket and i spent 600L only for 1 item...no copy !

Congratz for the article, full of humor :)
Great job SL HERALD !

Some of you have said for some time that SL is turning into a sewer. I... I should have listened.

(said in jest, btw)

Very interesting article.

I would like to thank you deeply for unveleing this last astonishing development, surely a solid milestone on the road of developing a new immersive enviroment for the virtual humanity.

Only thing I can really point out is a certain lack of investigation on side problems of this new tool, as for example bad aim while using urinals (a sad problem, too often hidden, hard hitting a lot of ashamed people).

Btw I understand that was only a short article and not an academic research paper, and that surely developers will shortly deploy new more advanced version.

Bravo! Pls go ahead this way Herald!

You got my first prize! Finally smiling after a bad day at work!!!! Tks

Well, the basic idea is creative and funny. But just another way to distort "traffic" figures.

If we want to get rid of camping chairs-- get rid of traffic. It's a useless figure anyway. The honest way to attract people is by advertising or word of mouth. SL doesn't need bogus traffic figures to attract people to spots they otherwise wouldn't be interested in.
