Sooner or later the customers are going start asking for more accountability before making investments in a Second Life presence. Until that visibility happens it would be very difficult to choose SL to represent your business in the virtual world. On it's viability as a entertainment platform it seems as if the back end design of SL currently work against controlling costs. Currently each 'sim' of SL is kept running even if there are no users present. Additionally there is no load balancing across the grid so even if there are 10,000 empty sims 50 avatars in one place can cause plenty of problems. If other virtual worlds start offering 'free' land or homes how will LL compete? That would certainly put them in a position that may be difficult to counter.
