I think a 30% layoff of a workforce, talking about steering the company away from what it was founded on and making it into a typical corporate wet dream probably pissed some unnamed benefactor off enough to want philip back in and mark out.

Mark Kingdon had no fucking clue what he was doing, he only knew marketing, thus his great plan for the long term was to shut down the grid, and make little isometric worlds much like metaplace makes for sites like facebook.

Yeah I think by now, someone learned that basing a company's long term survival on fads is a really bad idea, especially after the dotcom bubble burst.

Either way, the damage has been done, and the fact the wrong lindens got fired, while keeping the absolutely corrupt ones that do nothing but think of ways to fuck over the customers while upper management flails their arms around not realizing what they have or how to make use of it (spoilers: market it like WoW markets their shit, appeal to the lowest common denominator and enjoy the profits you'll reap from those people, the truly addicted.)

The biggest flaw kingdon had was trying to find ways to make big bucks off of SL rather than a stable revenue stream and finding ways to keep that stable.

Instead the company has been trying its hardest to scare off its current customer base, sabotage customer established products and markets, and generally push them away long enough to showcase their ancient technology without the evil, sick, depraved userbase getting in the way.

They wanted to portray SL like the sims online, only with shittier graphics.

But given the fact that the company was making idiotic decisions prior means that Philip is just a placeholder until they find another corporate drone to put back there, or rather, keep someone who may actually know how to use his position out of that position so the likes of cyn linden can really run the show, all without taking any of the responsibility of being a real leader.

The platform is still fucked, unless they decide to revamp the whole thing. Such as: A) updating the server side of things with an entirely brand new engine among other things, bringing it up to 2010 standards, rather than 1999 standards.
B) Truly overhauling the client-side, rather than making the client side of things harder to use, and render like shit on the newest of systems, overhaul, such as redoing the graphics to something that doesnt look like it was rendered on a sega dreamcast, with similar framerates (early dreamcast games with heavy graphics tended to suffer from lower framerates)
C) revamp the idea of what a sim is, do what blue mars does, a whole sim is as big as 256 SL sims in blue mars, for example. No more of this quilted island styled world, but one that is truly vast, where one sim can literally span for miles before running into another one, and by the time you get near the edge, the server client communications have already anticipated your crossing (if you do)
D) give people more prims, allow them to fuse prims into a whole object like a sculpt, giving them more control over their creations.
E) use standard modelling formats. Blue Mars does this fine.
F) use a real scripting language, LSL is a hack at best. use LUA. Again, blue mars is doing this.

But at this point, this advice would be better taken about a year and a half ago, only when fringe groups were pissed off at the company. Now they've pissed off most of the grid, and the big purple and yellow squares on the grid speak louder than words.

The Messiah returns to save us all... Happy Happy Joy Joy! LOL!! same problems, same policies, same situation with tier fee manipulation(33.3% min. business advantage must be nice) in favor of oldies and large estates. Absolutely nothing has changed and never will. It's still the same team running the same tired playbook. The personality cult that has been built up around Phil and the Lindens is really twisted. Very North Koreanish... LOL!!! ;)_~~~

Ted, once again speaking of that which you know not.
I was not a banker, BNT was an estate, and ACE was a stock exchange. We did take over a bank (M2B) which had financed our early growth when its owner got too busy in RL, but we quickly converted it to a stock company on the exchange and everyone was able to liquidate their holdings equitably. We were the largest depositor in M2B prior to the takeover and lost a few million L$ in the deal by putting the other depositors needs first.
This is why ACE, our stock exchange, was a zero interest 100% reserve operation from the start, it never operated as a bank.
The only losses our customers incurred was when Linden Lab stole our cash and sims.

So, last warning: keep up with the defamation and lies and you'll wind up regretting it.
