ALEXANDER releases Devo tune on Sony – monorail cars jam

On the night of Sunday October 22th 2006, Monorail transportation on Sony´s Media Island was artistically sabotaged by an avatar who´s identity will be presented here as “Alexander”.

By building up huge wooden boxes, Alexander started to block the monorail´s tracks, until the point were two of the constantly circulating vehicles were stuck – one over the other. Alexander also blocked entry to several entrances for some of the island attractions.

Being in the right place at the right time allowed the Herald to ask a few questions on the motives of this creative political act from this Artist – a ground breaking new talent here at the beginning of the millennium – now using as creative canvas a whole new virtual world.

Txema Nuvolari: Alex what are your motifs for this series of constructions?

ALEXANDER: I am all against the progression of societies by their
constant need of build, edificate and create, since the bible humans
use building as a mirror of effort and progression over god’s content,
this is definately my primary focus, the possible
obstruction/demolition of new architectures, as an act of devolution.

Txema Nuvolari: Are you part of any group, collective or resistance front?

ALEXANDER: No, at all, this is something I do by myself.

Txema Nuvolari: So you mention the sabotage over New architectures.
this is a not so new concept, born mainly by the german avant-garde
band Einsturzende Neubauten, from the late 80′s and not going that
far, it is also something that Andrew Kevin Walker sort of exploited
in the end of his celebrated book, “The Fight Club”. Do you consider any
of these possible influences?

ALEXANDER: Well, fuck fight club, and about Einsturzende, the only
decent work they have is Blixa Bargeld´s Poetry, besides that my
influences are mainly Baudelaire’s Artificial Paradise, and I guess
for just fucking around places, you really don´t need that much
influences, just some spare time and will to destroy, I have a lot of
both.

Txema Nuvolari: Thanx, I think your work is awesome.

ALEXANDER: then shut up and give me a hand.

That Herald reporter looks suspiciously similar to somebody I orbited only the other day. Only without an afro. But he could well have taken it off.

You know, I wouldn’t have said Baudelaire. I’d have said Rimbaud. I think the stark, naked plywood reflects the man’s upward, naked thrust toward the Oneness that our hopeless plurality never quite overcomes. I feel the underwear and the skinny ass are a statement, too. It’s as if he is saying, no, I don’t enjoy looking at my own avatar’s butt and neither should you. In a world obsessed with building, especially building for the Man in the Big Business of the Mainstream Media, this samizdat artiste speaks volumes about our crushed inworld existence. I feel God is calling to Adam in the Garden of Eden and saying, Where are you? And Adam is hiding. Adam is hiding behind a deluge of hypervents and plywood counterthrusts and has lost his way.

    “Those Who Sit”
    Artur Rimbaud

Dark with knobbed growths, peppered with pock-marks like hail, their eyes ringed with
Green, warty fingers clenched on their thigh-bones
Their skulls stained with indeterminate blotches
    Like the leprous discolorations of ancient walls ;

In amorous seizures they have grafted
Their weird bone structures to the great dark skeletons
Of their chairs ; their feet are entwined
Morning and evening, on the rickety rails

I find it entertainingly ironic that he has to build in order to fulfill his act of “devolution”. As primitive as the use of his plywood prims may be this is still construction and seems counter to his stated goals.

Get a job dude, even an SL one. Some people need to work for a living and turn their SL dollars into RL dollars. Take your pompus narcisistic elitism else where.
