No clothes on the PG-rated beta grid wednesday
Kharma Dharma reported wednesday, “I logged into the beta grid about 45 mins ago to see what was happening and 99% of the avatars there looked the same – all the same female bodies, no clothes and no access to inventory.”
Unfortunately, the sim where the involuntary nudist colony formed was rated PG – so some sort of coverup is expected. This is where the true power of user-created content in Second Life shines. It does not matter that the SL database server was messed up working as expected and shapes and clothes were not appearing correctly – residents can still be modest – if they want to. Reportedly, citizens fearful of the bans or abuse reports for going naked in a PG area quickly rezed boxes to wear. Perhaps not the most au-courant fashion statement, but better than an abuse report any day.
However, some residents – and staffers – either didn’t know or care about that PG rating – including Kelly Linden.

Kharma Dharma told us, “you can see some people did what they could to cover their modesty – and at least one Linden surveying the scene (Joe Linden also appeared for a while).”
Beneath the incriminating photos in the mojo wire’s out basket was an odd scribbled note. While the Herald’s mojo wire is the latest in in asymmetric anechoic asynchronous information gathering gear – it has been used at times in the past to send less than reliable information – and we were unable to verify this rumor. However, a sometimes reliable source tells us,
“SL will be getting a new (*amazing*) sky and water soon! Also Rain was mentioned, which is post-rendered, so it shouldn’t go through prims! Can’t say dates, but it’s already implemented into a test client, which is demoed in RL at a top secret research facility (I.E. LL)”
While we are in favor of better skies and weather, perhaps the Lab should concentrate on clothing for its employees first? How long will the metaverse-maker’s children go naked?

It’s a beta grid…. what the hell were you expecting? It’s a BETA GRID for TESTING with bunch of leftover OLD SERVERS.
Who cares if they are naked but GREY! It’s not like they got texture with TITS and skin tone on. Big deal. The only problem at that moment… too many people were trying to log on while BETA GRID is NOT designed to HOLD more than it can hold.
Kelly Linden is a developer and there to watch. You’re telling us that he need to worry about his appearance than the server/client system and networking test?!
Pixeleen, I hope you have a mental insurance to cover the problems that you’re having now.

This is one of the weirdest SL related articles I ever read.
Either you guys have nothing to write about and try making tabloid press style news out of nothing or you might take a moment of introspection in real life and consider if you are taking things too serious.
If I were a citizen on the beta grid (or even the main grid), and the server failed to render my clothes, I would not be creative enough to come up with the idea, that someone migh file an abuse report for that, much less than Linden Lab would do more about such a report than shaking their heads in disbelief.

Perhaps the Herald could do a regular feature on celebrity nakedness? With better photos, maybe?
Having been among the barrel wielding Ruths myself, I think it’s good to record this kind of lunacy when it occurs.
The beta grid yesterday was nothing more than an exercise in humility and barrel making. But at least some of us have a sense of humor

I think the point of the story is the irony how a linden can stroll around naked in a pg sim with no consequences. Yet if it were me or you regardless if the grid itself was having issues, you have the chance of getting Abuse reported. Can you imagine the outrage you would feel if u came onto the grid in a PG sim naked because of LL’s fuck up and some smart ass decides to abuse report you for being naked in a PG sim and you get suspended or banned over it? Would totally suck wouldnt it? To me this is another great advantage to griefers, all they have to do is stand in the PG sim when LL is having grid issues and just start randomly reporting every naked avatar they feel like.

Now, as to the rain and sky, I’m upset, because they’ve already ruined the sky once, and given it different lighting than it used to have, so pictures don’t come out as well; and I never liked what they did with the water, either, it looks very fake (I keep it turned off). So I’m worried…
Also, for them to introduce bad weather, signified by rain, is somehow fitting given the performance issues.
