The first thing Marilyn asked me was, why did I want to do this? Mostly it came down to wanting to do something that I could never do in RL, as my appearance there is nothing remarkable. To me, that is the essence of SL; the Lindens are right!
I got into SL by accident; there was a writeup about it in an issue of MAKE Magazine, and I was curious, so…over a year and a half later, here I am. I started out by trying to make an avatar that looked as much like my RL self as possible (I am not certain I can adequately explain why), but started tinkering with shapes, and eventually found I have a minor talent for making shapes, including this one (shameless plug: I have shape vendors in Andorra and Suffugium, but Suffugium is worth seeing on its own merits).
I confess that I am a dilettante (and the recovering daughter of an English teacher; pity me); I make everything from shapes to ceramics, and anything else that takes my fancy. What with sculpted prims changing things around, I have SO much to learn….
In the photos, I am wearing the same shape; it never ceases to amaze me how much difference a change of skin can make. I spend a lot of time as a neko (after all, I am Mistress Drew Beltran’s part-time kitten), but I change my appearance a lot, probably more than most Residents. My shapes tend to be on the small side; I scale them to RL, and avatars in SL tend to be dramatically taller than their RL counterparts, so my shapes look even shorter (I am about 5 feet tall in this shape; a respectable height in RL, but TINY in SL…). I admit I have been asked a number of times if I am a child; I am at times, but I would think these are not a child’s proportions!
For me, the main attraction of SL, even more than making things, is the people. SL is as real as the people in it, and I have met many wonderful ones here. My thanks to Marilyn, whom I only met recently, after my sister Alex Fitzsimmons inspired me to do this, and Mistress Drew, and many, many others, but especially my wife Tamaria Vixen, the foxiest girl in SL, for making this all worthwhile.

Sadly, the skin is a discontinued one by Munchflower Zaius, called her Nomine China White 13 – 14. Celestial Studios’ *CS* Charmed Skin – 00 (Earth-4) may be an adequate substitute, but you will need to try it for yourself. Good hunting

Firiel hardly looks like a child. Granted she’s not a 6’9″ giant with legs that comprise 80% of her length – but I seriously am starting to wonder at all the idiots who can’t see small without having sexual thoughts about children. It does not matter what I say about my RL self; you will believe what you choose to believe. I admit that mine is not the face that launched a thousand ships, and burnt the topless towers of Illium (I TOLD you that I was the daughter of an English teacher), but I get by without scaring small children, and I do not feel the need to tear other people down in order to make myself feel bigger.

Very lovely, Firiel. I’m only an occasional Neko myself, but I can certainly appreciate kittehs. But where’s the tail? Switchy tails are teh sexeh!
I’m so glad I already have a China White. I didn’t know it had been discontinued. Or only that makeup? I don’t wear that skin often, but it comes in handy for certain looks.

This is my girl. she is an adult. she is a wonderfully insightful and smart person. she helps others whenever she can, and she is not a child. she does not act childlike, and her avie is not child like. To all those that would judge her based on her height I would say that you are shallow closed minded people with ageplay on the minds.
