Mr-President Wins! but voting irregularities cast shadow over election
by Alphaville Herald on 10/04/04 at 10:29 pm
The unofficial tally from The AVG Presidential election are as follows. With 880 votes cast, Mr-President has received 469 votes (approx 53.3%) and Ashley Richardson has received 411 votes (46.7%). However, all through the day there were reports of Ashley Richard supporters that were unable to vote, and it did not inspire confidence when Alphaville Mafia Kingpin JC Soprano emerged as Mr-President’s unofficial spokesman, providing advice for those having difficulty voting. In addition, the Alphaville Herald has been monitoring voting patterns all day long, and we have noted statistical irregularities in those patterns. For example, at 5:30 PM, when Ashley was locked in a tie with Mr. President there was a sudden burst of votes for Mr. President in which he outpolled 69 to 38 in the next 107 votes cast. Perhaps the closeness of the election inspired his supporters to rush to the polls? The AVH will continue to investigate this matter (as well as the issue of non-TSO Floridians attempting to vote for Ashley). Stay tuned. Meanwhile Congrats to Mr-President on his victory, and to Ashley on a well run campaign.

ummmmm…i wonder if this paper can ever be happy with something how it is. there was no need to put in statements like “However, all through the day there were reports of Ashley Richard supporters that were unable to vote, and it did not inspire confidence when Alphaville Mafia Kingpin JC Soprano emerged as Mr-President’s unnofficial spokesman, providing advice for those having difficulty voting.” just to get a few more hits. He won, there will be no re-count…no re-do. maybe you should be kissing up to him.
Welcome to the AlphavilleEnquirer, your #1 source for over-dramatic bs that doesnt even make sense, our top story today: Mr President is an alien!!!

During the April 10th election, Mr-President took lead – But the question is, did he really win? During the election about a hundred of Richardson supporters were unable to get a vote. It simply said, “You have already voted. Vote not counted,” while this was the first time for all of them voting. For those who were able to vote – when they voted and Ashley’s numbers went up Mr-President would quickly start to get more votes, coming in front of her at a rapid rate. There were 880 votes submitted throughout the day, and Mr-President took 53.3%, while Ashley took 46.7% when polls closed at 10pm EST. This is very strange, when just a little before 10am the hits at avgov.com were about 14,000.. and now are at an alarming 15,412.
As a candidate in the election and the fact that Mr-President was paying for the voting website, I kept close track on what the total number of hits to the website were as well as the percentage and number of votes totaled at the votes page. In order to vote you had to go to avgov.com and click a link called “Cast Your Vote” and every voter should have entered the website to do this, and a hit for the website should have been added as well. The Alphaville Herald has recently posted an article about the irregularities in casting votes during the election today. Mr-President as well as other members of Alphaville Government stated that it is a problem with cookies on your browser, and that you cannot vote from AOL because your vote will not be counted. It was not said before today that you would not be able to vote on America Online, and I feel that it is truly unfair that this foul play has occurred. We shall see what comes of this corruption, and if Mr-President is honestly deserving of another term as President of Alphaville Government.

Laura, how many times does it have to be explained, not to you, but some of your “Supporters” (and i quote that because i don’t know if they are yours, or just mr-p haters) …. but your most likely told your friends to look at the results page FIRST rather sending them to the voting page. And, the AOL IP issue. If this election was held on Mr-P’s site like the Primaries, you would cry foul also…its a lose-lose siutation….If you dont want to do another election then why comment on it? Also: with AVG.com hits….People could
a) be visiting the site
b) going there to go back to *attempt to vote again*
or
c) you can go back to the voting page and hit the “results”.

Gee…you this the AV Herald may be….biased??? Oh the horror! LOL!!! Of course it’s biased! He hates Maxis/EA/TSO and would do anything to have it shut down. He’s still so bitter about having his account terminated…(ooo…the infamous “INCIDENT” LMFAO) even though he posted someone’s RL info on here. He doesn’t have the talent to be a “real” journalist so he has to make his own rag to boost his overblown ego on. He made an earlier comment about how he “scooped” the NY Times…LOL…yeah, I’m sure the NYT reporters are all worried about this!
As far as him making comments about people being up others’ asses, he should talk! I doubt that this post will be on here for long since I’m not up his ass.

I out and out told them not to look at the results page first, and nobody did that! I find it a disgrace that users without Internet Explorer, etc. could not vote because they had AOL. You guys should not have been in charge of the polling and you know that. Whether a different guy (who knows Mr-President) was running the result site, Mr-President told me that he was paying for the site, so he could easily have had it rigged. You guys are like Bush and Cheney, and I’m the poor innocent Gore who got robbed! Voting has to be regulated, and a 21 year old should know better than to do something that could be questioned as suspicious. I was upset about the setup for several weeks, but I had faith in Mr-President, I don’t know why. So enjoy your political careers, and make sure to get on track with the Republican party – you guys have a real future!

Ashley….give it up! You lost because no one wanted Barbie to run the AVG! Mr.P wants to do good things for the people of AV and you get sarcastic with “Oh such fun things!” Maybe he won because we would rather have AV improve and grow and not see a fashion show or other tributes to yourself that you had planned.
I love the closing remarks at the debate…”Everybody wang chung tonight everybody have fun tonight”. LOL!!! Inspiring words…that you couldn’t even get right!!! LOL!! Move over Roosevelt, Churchill and Kennedy!!! LOL!!!!

Piper- you are an arrogant male who is sexist at the HIGHEST level. I didn’t win because half my votes weren’t even counted! I’m not being a sore loser because this race was a big lie anyway – Like 100 people messaged me saying that their votes could not go through. Get a life and stop discriminating against me because I happen to have some intelligence and I’m a girl. Everybody Wang Chung Tonight is funny, and it is a joke (Its a song from the 80s – which you wouldn ot know because you are probably some immature middle schooler – At least I’m mature and have some sense). Give it up Piper because you totally do not get me- I’m no barbie who would have turned AVG into some fashion show- you are being an ignorant male who needs to lighten up and stop being such a sexist! The only reason I ran in this thing was to get my voice heard in Alphaville and maybe (If the polls were not rigged) get to put some actual sense into the AVG. I’m not a fan of that organization at all, and after seeing the supporters who taunted me after losing.. and watching all the foul play which occured during the election, I moed out of that neighborhood and I’m getting away from it!! Stop iming me in the game because you have nothing important to say to me- except be a complete jacka**. Grow up, and LEAVE ME ALONE!

AGAIN: Mr-P couldn’t rig it, you happen to take a look at the website who hosts it, it is a company where you rent space for a vote…. You can’t edit the votes

Sorry Ashley, you had the opportunity to help get those votes casted, but you opted not to listen to me or anyone else who was trying to help you and your supporters. It was a cookie, not a rigging issue. As for AOL, it’s nick named AOHELL for a reason. AOL is not even an Internet Provider, they are a content provider (learned that one at Earhtlink), which means technically, they were not eligible to vote to begin with since this was limited to Internet Voting. That’s if you want to get into technicalities. I am sure Mr. President lost some votes as a result too.

Some people do not even have Internet Explorer and only AOL. Oh yeah Jason- I beat you in the primary.. maybe thats why you are acting like a complete jacka**!
JC Soprano- I listened to what you had to say, and I told my supporters that they have to use Internet Explorer (The ones that were on), and half of them didn’t have IE, so is that fair- that a Sim who lives in Alphaville cannot vote because they use AOL and are not poor and use the cheap Internet Explorer.
Ian- I have nothing to say to you except that you are a complete a**hole.
—I cannot believe I actually took part in this fake government. Mr-President’s “guys” are complete jerks and I have proof that they wanted to fix the election from the pictures my friend took last night when she was at the Capital.

I have been reading The Alphaville Herald for some months now and find the whole concept of this “news paper” interesting. (On a side note: I love the Herald and take time out from work every day to read it.) I personally find the real-world economic and in-game social dynamics of MORP games, and TSO in particular, fascinating. Even though I have no personal stake in this issue, other than vast amusement/interest at the situation, I could not hold back any longer and felt compelled to comment.
First off we have the core of The Sims Online – a glorified chat room where people from all over the world and from all walks of life can pretend to be…..an ordinary person. From all I have seen and read TSO has been so poorly designed, managed and supported that EA has been able to turn a world-wide best seller into the Communism of computer games. Communism defined as a fascinating concept that might work if not for the enormous drag factor of human nature itself. Lets face it communism was no fun – democracy has all the best parties.
TSO’s only goal in game from what I could tell was the accumulation of wealth, either social or financial. I personally do not understand the driving force behind the accumulation of social gratification in an imaginary world. Now the accumulation of in-game financial wealth I can understand. Those who have been able to manipulate TSO into real-world financial gain, I tip my hat to you. You are the glory that is capitalism. You have been able to push the boundaries of base consumerism by selling imaginary goods from an imaginary world that you do not even own to people whose only use for it is to be used in said world in a game that they pay to play anyway. To that I have to say “WOW”, you are gods.
This leads us to your current situation: TSO Presidential elections. WHOOO! I have to be missing something here. Becoming President of Alphaville, an imaginary town, whose sole power rests in the massed delusion of the other players that the position actually means something, is like going to Herculean efforts to masturbate. All that effort could have gone into wooing a real sexual partner for a far more interesting result. I have never seen a political event like this outside of a banana republic or the “coup-of-the-month club” that is Africa.
The election itself was run and managed by the incumbent, who shall here after be referred to as “El Presidente”. Technical support and advice was provided by the self proclaimed leader of organized crime. I had to do a double take here as the crime lords and special interest groups of Alphaville had their collective hand so far up El Predidente’s ass at first glace I thought he was a sock puppet.
Any questions so far?
His main rival for the office of President, here after referred to as “The Kid” was someone who is, lets face it, still young enough to be exploring the mysteries and wonders known as puberty. The Kid has the political depth that can be rivaled only by damp cement and the leadership skills of the lead lemming in a mad dash for the white cliffs of Dover.
When I was told that TSO is a microcosm of the earth in general and the US in particular I broke out in a cold, panicky sweat. Then I realized that that could only be true if God was an inbred hillbilly from some place like West Virginia, Newfoundland, Corsica, or Okinawa.

Well, that was funny, SSgt Dave. I suppose the game is something where you, well, you have to be there to get it.
An election is just one fun aspect of the game. And this one was the most professional election ever done in any city of the game since its beginning. You think they can’t do anything – but they can: They provide role-play, and a structure for other activities, just as a neighborhood such as Sim Arts does.
I voted for Mr. President because he is pleasant to everyone – even-tempered, as I think Uri put it. Ashley is equally nice, but a little more prone to getting wrought up over things. The ability to remain calm is important in this game, as is the ability to live and let live and get along with most everybody, mafia included.
I also voted for Mr. President because he has made it a point not to bring rl politics into the game. We don’t know what his rl politics are, and that is terrific. The game is, after all, supposed to be an escape.
I agree that some of his minions leave a lot to be desired. But he himself is a consummate politician. He connects with each individual he meets, in a low-key, totally non-pushy manner. I don’t doubt for a minute that he impressed many, many people the same way he impressed me, one at a time, and he got their votes rightfully as a result.

Ashley, how many of those 100 people that had trouble voting (using AOL) actually play TSO? How many of them are friends in your RL community? How many of your votes (estimation) came from sims in TSO?
My campaign was geared towards sims in ALPHAVILLE. I personally go out to lots and participate in AV events. I go to the GAME SHOW CHANNEL, I was at the Alphaville Awards, I watch Alphaville Wreslting Entertainment Monday Nights, I paid to see a show at the Diamond Memorial Theatre, these are a few things that I do to show support for ALPHAVILLE. Do I have to be a contestant at the Family Fued? Did anyone make me watch ’27 Wagons Full of Cotton’.. No. I did it because I support the sims of AV. I’m not just the President of the AVG, I’m a Resident of of the City of Alphaville. I play an active part in ALPHAVILLE. Sims know this in game. My campaign was geared towards the sims of AV. People in ALPHAVILLE voted for me.
