KathrynAnn Kobaleinen — Post 6 Grrrrl
by Alphaville Herald on 13/07/10 at 11:13 am
[KathrynAnn Kobaleinen came to see me ages ago about modeling. Finding time for her to pose with my increasingly busy RL and her time zone proved to be a problem, and then other delays have kept her from appearing here, but I have to say, she's very much worth the wait. KathrynAnn Kobaleinen is stylish, classy, and a very professional model with whom it was a pleasure to work. It is a great pleasure to introduce her as this week's model. ~Timothy Morpork]
Hello Readers! My name is KathrynAnn. I have wandered around in Second Life for more than a year now. Please don’t take my profile at face value, as I am really much older than my avi’s birth date suggests.
My favorites pastimes are chilling out with friends, dancing, shopping (of course!) and modeling.
I’d like to thank Timothy for this great opportunity to be featured in the Alphaville Herald. I’m really excited and honoured to be able to participate in this shoot with so many pretty and vivacious models.
Modelling is a great passion for me, full of excitement and the opportunity to meet new people. I’ve had the chance to model for a few people I have encountered around SL, and I try to help them in their promotional efforts by keeping them featured in my picks. Take a look to see some of my adventures.
For me SL is a place for experimentation and adventure. I have experimented with many things in SL that I wouldn’t dare to do RL… some very very naughty things actually ^^. SL is a place for so many people to forget about RL for a while and become someone else. We all share our personalities in this amazing place. I know I have learnt a lot about my own limits, as I have sat behind my screen gazing in on this world.
I’ve recently tried to settle down by renting a flat but I realize that I dont spend much time at home. I’m just way too busy to spend time at home, what with visiting friends, going shopping, dancing etc etc etc. It’s difficult to do everything when you spend around about 4 hours a day a few days in a week in SL. I can be offline an entire week and I am thankful to people who take care of my goods when I am absent-minded ^^.
Do you know the Dunbar number ? No ? Ok… It’s the number of friends you can decently have on a period with whom you can entertain good relationships. What would Mr Dunbar say about SL ? We dont know but I’ll give you my SL Kobaleinen number… 10. Over that number I dont think it’s possible to have decent relationships.
What I’m really proud of is to have met such amazing people from all over the world. Whatever you do or wherever you go, you find friendly people. I will just talk about them because they are the only ones who count. I dont mind where they are from or who they are in RL, i just wish to give them all the attention they deserve and that is not an easy task when you have to deal with RL and timezones.
So you know a bit more about me now! Thanks again to the Alphaville Herald for this fantastic opportunity, and I hope you, the readers, will enjoy my pics.
Hugs and Kisses
KathyrnAnn.

>Horrific
The body in that second photo is > horrific. Tiny shoulders, beachball boobs, waist and hips indistinguishable from each other.
More pork, stop picking any avatar you happen to trip over and start actually choosing decent and interesting models.
Hell, my vote is for that shecksi Jezebel Enoch to pose 8V
At least then we’d have models with character instead of the dross you churn onto the floor every week.

The only article so far this week and it is this dreck. Come on this Post 6 stuff really blows. The only accomplishment these broads have is that they can go shopping for their looks. Well that really is impressive. I was confused how money works. Shop til you drop sheep and maybe you to can have your 15 seconds of “fame”.
This sucks, so much for the future. With generations like this one, who’s only major accomplishment is shopping.
I won’t be recycling in the future and hope you all die on the excrement that you create.

We really should have a Timothy drinking game, except we’d all stay hammered.
This lady really needs to work on her shape.

Ya’ll be nice. She am smart, tossin’ round “Kobaleinen” and other big ol’ words.
And her sittin’ spot am first rate.

Just lovely from the neck up. I agree that below the neck could use some work from a proportional point of view. And from her write up, KathrynAnn seems like a very nice girl.

Spoken doubtlessly from one crap mangina cartoon to another. Get a grip store-bought cartoons and shallow lifestyles all the perfect hallmarks of a 21st century candidate for 15 seconds of fame or "flame" as the case may be.
Please aside from everything else the only things missing from this cartoon wank-tacular is the suture lines around the areolas or on the underside of the breasts. The whole overarching point is that who really cares whether her tits look fake… take a deep breath… none of the avies in SL look remotely real. Its a cartoon and a poorly drawn one at that.

Actually, without giving away too much detail or invading other people’s privacy, KathrynAnn is saying quite a lot about her SL experience — an experience that is not too different from many or even most Residents.
OK, so it’s life with the naughty neighbours in the suburbs. So not everyone is a gifted scripter or content creator or a leader of opinion.
Not too long ago, the Herald started a series of interviews portraying professional women in SL. There was plenty of (constructive) criticism from the readers, but the idea was promising. Less nudity, more substance. Any chance to see that continued?
Maybe that can lift some of the expectation from the Post Six models. Let them have their platform for a little SL boundary-bending. Make them look their best in the pictures and hook them up with an editor who helps them project their image in writing too. You didn’t think Hugh Hefner’s Playmates wrote their little editorials themselves, did you?

@levity:
yes, i do believe in some cases, not this one, an editor might improve the language or presentation.
i am responsible for the original concept of having the model write her own statement.
the thought behind it was/is: why have someone else speak for the model? if the model has poor grammar, spelling diffculty, or capitalization/punctuation problems (such as i have) then ok, thats who she/he is. the idea is to present the person, and that is part of the person.
i have also encouraged a series on women who are movers and shakers. if someone wanted to write one, i have a list.

Her body isn’t so bad. Yes, she has big boobs, but she balanced them with a nice curved butt and legs that looks like they won’t break under the weight. I like that type of avatar better than the ones with big boobs, manhips and skinny legs.
I have more trouble with the jacket in picture one. It looks really bad, blurry texture and the pose isn’t so flattering. The last picture works best.
Comic type avatar? Well, not all see SL like an extension of RL. If the avatar is put together to look like a comic book superheroine, I’m ok with that.
I remember the Business Woman featured in Post6. It was a constant flaming over them making self-promoting and the photographer picking only friends. I really doubt that any business woman will see Post6 as a positive promotion for them. Maybe it would be different with a photographer that’s some SLcelebrity.

You want a blog chic that is posting pics like crazy? This girl is one of my favorites to watch. http://minkamade.blogspot.com
I love big fake boobs too but I would make a lousy girl. I’d rather pretend I was Jumpy instead and get myself a harem of bimbos. Maybe do that in SL too.

I’ve never understood peoples predisposition to claim they’ve been in SL longer than the rez date of their current alt, who gives a p00p! I’ve been in SL since 2004, I’ve yet to hear when they’ll be handing out the ‘Someone Gives a Flying F*k’ awards.
“Modeling is a great passion for me” – srsly? Wearing the pixel artwork of other people and standing on a pose stand while someone takes ‘pics’ is something to be passionate about? Try logging into RL and updating your char there…it needs help.

You may want to check this out: http://twothreesixfive.wordpress.com/
It’s a project that over the course of one year (threesixfive days) has people writing a short piece about their day in first and second life. Different person each day, and so far a lot of very different stories.
There are still some dates to fill and you don’t need to pose in the nude.

@bored>>> Man… there is finally a voice out there in the wilderness that understands. Your points and mine totally coincide on this. How the F*#k is it an accomplishment to buy some crap and play dressy bessie and expect the rest of us to give a shit. PLease give me a break…. this post 6 crap is beyond feeble. This broad is one of many vapid losers that seem to populate SL. Blingtard alert ! Blingtard alert! Clean up on aisle three.

Thanks for the tip. I read some of the stories and I’ll be reading many more.
@ marilyn
It looks like you did a little more than make suggestions about editing write-ups.
I finally did what I should have done before and hit the Herald archives. The first Post 6 was published in December 2004 in cooperation with Marilyn Murphy’s Player Magazine. With a reference to emulating the British tabloids, the publisher’s introduction seems to be rather tongue-in-cheeck. Models apparently featured in both publications.
The first couple of model’s write-ups are a lot shorter than the ones we’re seeing now. Fairly similar in content, except that several of the models in the first few months are involved in building and setting up businesses. A reflection of the time perhaps? December 2004 is way before the 2007 hype drew in a more recreational group of users (myself included).
Is it my romantic notion of an era that I have missed out on, or do the old posts really have more of a feeling of going boldly where no man has gone before?
It’s just a pity that the pictures are missing from the old entries.
If anyone wants to do some archive browsing of their own, here’s where to start: http://alphavilleherald.com/2004/12/introducing_her.html
An eyewitness report of an early photography session is here: http://alphavilleherald.com/2005/03/off_the_grid_wi_2.html

I gotta say,it kinda sucks being lumped into the category of someone who only cares about making their avatar being pretty, being “sexy” and having no character simply because I did a Post 6. I mean if you think I’m lame & bland, fine… but label me on my own merits, guys! The feedback to mine from two weeks was generally positive, and (coincidence?) I noticed there weren’t as many comments.
Even though I’m involved in projects here and there in SL I’m a complete “nobody”, have no connections to anybody- and I got picked in a snap. My avatar isn’t a Barbie and I like to think I’m not entirely generic. You can so easily talk to female friend that you think is brilliant, see if she wants in and contact Timothy in-world- if he finds her interesting he *will* be in touch. He’s insanely busy and not in SL very often, so he’s pretty limited in his exposure if people don’t help him out a bit.
When some commentators just hop on for an unending barrage of lazy insults while making sweeping generalizations they’re devaluing their own input. Some good ideas here- if some of the really disappointed people here put 5 minutes into “nominating” an impressive woman to Timothy in an IM in SL than- ta da! The beginning of having to be clever when you only have positive things to say. I can’t wait!
(P.S. I am in love with the face on this avatar.

@ Lila
There’s no excuse for the rudeness of some of the comments. That’s the downside of pseudonimity, I guess. The Herald ran an article about that just a few days back.
Reading back your entry it’s clear that you were prepared for the flamers. So why go along for the ride anyway? Seriously, I’d like to know.
***
Another thing I’ve been wondering about. Most of the Herald articles seem to be about the technical and political sides of SL. From where I’m looking, the editors and some of the regulars contributors are pretty high up the SL tree.
Then there’s some satirical stuff (love you, Pappy) and finally there’s Post 6. It’s been there for a long time, as I just found out, but it seems mostly separate from the rest of the Herald: models seem to be selected from a very different crowd and even the commentators seem to be a separate lot.
I’m guessing, adn perhaps the archives will confirm this, that in the past this divide wasn’t there or that it was smaller. If that’s true, where did the diversion start, and why, and is it a bad thing?
With all the flamers waiting to dig their claws in, I’m just hoping that models are properly prepared for a cold shower. Posing in the pixel nude is one thing, but an honest write-up is where you’re really exposed.

@levity: well, hello there. its really nice of you to actually look into this little bit of sl history.
that divide you refer to. yes, i think that the divide was smaller back then. in fact, it seems to me that, in 03 and into 04 a huge majority of people in sl were there to create something. a person might land in sl as a vagabond, but within weeks they had a business or creative interest of some kind or they were gone. ha ha. oh i tell you. some of the business wars that i caused/suffered thru/participated in. the prim wars. taxes. it was truly survival of the fittest. everyone was angling for some niche. one song and i had this riotous business war going on that was hugely entertaining. griefers would strike and then drop by to discuss what i thought about it. in some ways it was the wild west, and in a population of 500. 5 or 6 people were the fashion creators of note, many others wanting to get noticed.. black tie events attended by what would later come to be called that thing prokovky coined. it was buggy and it was lagged and i think everyone had a very interesting time. big john and cristiano. cats paw. the sunshine sisters. jellin. the first ever centerfold in all of sl history was jova song. that was really a great time. characters galore. i learned a lot about myself in sl.

My pleasure, Ms Murphy.
As a recreational user myself I can tell you that the old slogan still goes. Your world, your imagination. It’s just a lot easier and prettier now, thanks to the work of those who came before us.
Wouldn’t it be great if the pictures in the old entries could be made visible again? A simple overview of Post 6 could be the starting point of a social and design history of SL.
I wonder if any of the models had that in mind when they took off their clothes in front of the camera.
