Love phishing? Well let me assure you from a first hand perspective that you won?t like this kind! I had never heard of this latest scamming phenomenon until I was a victim myself! Let me bring you back to the day not so long ago?

It was a dark and stormy night when I signed online. Da Da DOOOONNNN!!! A tso friend and I had arranged for him to send me some money through Pay Pal. Not having an account I made one and received what I assumed to be the usual e-mail confirmation. The very official looking Pay Pal message said that small amount of money had been deposited into my account. It asked me to check out my bank balance and then go to the link and confirm the information. Being the silly girl that I am, I went to my account and saw that nine and ten cents had been deposited. I cannot believe what I did next- and I?m not talking about the seven cookies I had at lunch. No! It is much worse!!! I actually went to the link and confirmed my bank account number and said that the small amounts had been deposited! Then I waited and waited and waited. The money that we had agreed upon had not been deposited into my account two weeks later. I was beginning to get a little nervous and decided to try the phone number provided. Needless to say it rang and rang. Later that night I told my father about my problem. He then said to me ?You?ve been phished!? I was like ?WHAT? What is that?? He explained that phishing is where people set up websites that look like legitimate sites. They then send you a fake e-mail one asking you to confirm bank accounts and such. In my case, I believe that they even intercepted the money that my friend had sent. I consider myself pretty computer savvy, but I did not notice a difference between the fake and the real site. Kind of scary! After my dad?s explanation we immediately called my bank and put holds on my accounts. It appears that nothing had been taken yet. What a night! I think I deserved my cookies!

This is a very common scam especially among big sellers of virtual items… Others who desire to be as good as thee or as rich as thee send the better known sellers these emails almost daily in hopes to snag and acount password so that they can go empty your paypal account..

ANYTIME you get these kind of “security”, “suspension” etc emails from BOTH ebay or paypal immediately fwd them to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com

I have posted this before, i think it still has relevance:

“You can’t cheat an Honest man.”
    W.C. Fields

If you weren’t attempting to do something less than Honest in the first place, you wouldn’t have got scammed.

Sorry chere, it’s a Hard lesson, but one best learned young.
