With 5 hours to go: Ashley cries Foul!

by Alphaville Herald on 10/04/04 at 4:55 pm

With 5 hours left in the election, 332 votes have been cast, with Mr-President holding onto a razor thin lead. Thus far 54.3% of the votes have been cast for Mr-President and 45.7% for Ashley.

Meanwhile, Ashley has contacted the AVH about apparent irregularities in the vote counting: “I have been getting dozens of messages saying, ‘I can’t vote, it says I’ve voted before and my vote is not counted” – meanwhile they have not voted yet once! Mr-President’s voted keep going up now, and mine drop because of this happening. This is a major problem that the votes are not all being counted.”

One possible problem is that many users may be reaching the voting site via AOL, in which case they may be registering the same IP address. Or perhaps more sinister factors are involved. We await a statement from Mr-P.

If Mr. P is using the poll he did before it will not let you vote more than once. That is the problem Ashley’s people are running into. Their is no way to know the IP’s of those to block ahead of time and frankly it’s too much work to try and do that. I don’t even think the poll supports that option.

From the sounds of it, Ashley’s friends are trying to vote more than once. That’s just from the sounds, no proof.

The polls try to put a cookie on your browser so it knows you voted. If you try to remove the cookie, it resorts to IP tracking.

    AOL affects the polls?

Having cookies disabled may cause problems then it sounds like.

There is also a warning on the site that if you click to view the results before you have voted, it might not let you vote.

    TO AOL USERS:
I don’t know if this will work, but connect to AOL, and then open up an Internet Explorer. It may fix the problem because you are not using AOL’s integrated browser. If it doesn’t, then I don’t know, just felt like throwing in a tip.

Her *friends* are defiantly attempting to vote twice. I was at her house earlier, and she was crying that the elections are rigged, but when she is winning it isn’t?

No, tons of people have been contacting me saying they cannot vote because it says they have already voted. NOW these people are voting for the firt time and getting this.. They have not voted before and NO this is not their second chance. Ughh

Ian, I was saying they were rigged WHEN I was winning because people couldn’t vote then!

    Ashley,

Let me save you the time right now. If they are getting that error it is on them. There is something going on with their browser. There is no way to set the poll how you think it’s being set. I can see already that your trying to hint at foul play. It’s just not possible the way your describing it. Are you asking these people if they are reviewing the results first or you just assuming that it doesn’t work? We’ve already determined you cannot view the results or it thinks you have voted. If you can give any technical info here or have one of those people come on here, I can try to help them be able to cast a vote. I did tech support on internet apps at Intel including Internet Explorer.

Ashley no, I came onto your property, with your friend Debra, who has since constantly harassed me, that the election is rigged. Anyways, When I entered your property before a RANDOM boot+ban, you were crying “its rigged” and your “supporters” said “i know” …And this is with a 13.5% Mr-P lead.

Well, we can only hope nothing is going on with the polls and he isn’t in fact rigging it- Well my friends couldn’t vote and NO they did not view results first, and they didn’t use AOL or try to vote for a 2nd time. It is crazy!

Know what makes it better though? She had her rl friends vote as well, and its still not paying off. I think she has no room to complain about maybe 20 people, tops, not being able to vote.

Knowing what I do about setting up a site where one can only vote once I have to agree with JC Soprano about it being impossible for Ashley’s friends to be blocked from being able to vote.

I think this was Ashley’s “Plan B”…if she didn’t win she was going to claim “foul play” instead of admitting that she lost because the majority of the people didnt want her. She even had the nerve to have her friends IM people in-game to ask if they voted and who they voted for. I think the only “foul play” here is that Ashley and her friends were trying to vote more than once and when they could not…”WAAAAAHHH!!!!!”

    Congrats to Mr. President!!!!

When I got onto TSO in the morning, I came on to like 50 messages saying “I cannot vote, it says that I’ve voted already when I have not.” Then, all throughout the day so many people messaged me saying the same. Paul Tully, you have nothing to say about me when I was robbed out of this chance to be President from some “ego” maniac 21 year old and his middle school supporters (speaking of you).

Ashley, the hypocrisy is seriously killing me, aren’t you in Middle School, and your supporters too..You are just finding ways to make him look really bad, because your obviously jealous. But jealously is the sincerest form of flattery…. So what if his supporters are Middle Schoolers, most likely high schoolers…but who cares the age, it is the maturity level, but more of the fact that THEY can choose. Will you please stop complaining, because the whole point of the AVG was “the peoples choice”. I doubt, since you lost, we will hear much from you. You were just using the AVG for power.
