OMFG! EA Pulls plug on Ultima X

by Alphaville Herald on 01/07/04 at 11:16 am

Wowzers! In news releases issued by EA after they pulled the plug on Earth and Beyond, EA said it was sending its E&B dev team to work on Ultima X — the much hyped 3D successor to Ultima Online. But now they have announced they are pulling the plug on Ultima X. Informed sources say that the dev team will now be shifted to TSO. Just kidding… hahahahaha. In fact, it sounds like the team is going to work on that venerable dinosaur, UO. Maybe they can find a way to wreck that game too. Follow the Terra Nova discussion on this one. And my question is: Why doesn’t EA just get the hades out of the MMORPG business? Clearly they are utterly clue impaired about this biz.

Well Yah know what, I think this is a good Idea. Ea is not good at this business or any business for that matter. If they want to learn something they need to pay a visit to NCsof or buy NC for that matter. They are a crazy producer, and the producer of the world renown and most successful global MMORPG ever with many millions of subscribers, Lineage. I think that they need to either aquire NC (the world leaded in MMO) or they will regret it, seeing as NC is brining dozens into the market place, and they are good at running them. From the beat on the street Blizzards WOW and Sony’s EQ 2 are not good games and are both bound for failure. The Future is Nc cant you see?

Meanie is very right. NC soft has 2 very good games out right now. City of heros (never played it) an Lineage 2. and of course the orig lineage. Lets look at what EA has going for them…Hmm lets see…a Failure of a game called ‘The Sims Online’that will be gone soon, and Ultima Online (the only good thing they have going for them)

Another thing NC Soft is good at is customer service! Compared to TSO, its the best ive ever seen!! let me explain- U first pm a GM (a employee), then wait for them. Then they PM ya back in a chat room type thing, and you actually talk to a real life person. Unlike TSO where you get a little message telling u to use the ignore button. TSO is gone soon :)
