Sooner or later, everyone has their own blog

Well this is the worst news imaginable for Second Lifers. Philip Rosedale (aka Philip Linden, your CEO and spiritual leader) has started his own blog. I mean its not that he doesn’t have interesting ideas, but… Dude! Blogs are a time sink! Run away!!!!
Oh that, and the premise of the first entry strikes me as…well… in need of an argument or something. Complexity is plausibly a necessary condition for intelligence, but a sufficient one? Clearly not. What’s the missing ingredient? Philip seems to think it’s social interraction and that hence, a reasonably complex system embedded in a world like SL would have a shot at becoming an AI — SL as an AI incubator (who needs sense organs!). Well, there are lots of ways to be complex, and vanishingly few of those ways of being complex (even if sensitive to social environment) will give rise to intelligent behavior, sentience, etc. On the other hand, I may be wrong, in which case the first AI’s will be BDSMers that like to play BINGO and will think they can fly.

I read it last night (from NWN) , thought it was okay. I am a tech reading geek, but his perspective really bored me half way threw, and I totally disagreed with his “requirement of social activity”.

Oh that part has to be right. I’m just saying it is far from enough.

His blog is actually interesting. All you do Uri is bash EA, rant on about sex clubs in SL, and kissup to SL celebs. I wonder if you even have a life.

Yeah, the only thing more pathetic would be someone whose life consisted in worrying about whether I have a life.
