Job Opportunity: Editor in Chief of Second Life Herald

by Alphaville Herald on 01/01/05 at 9:34 pm

I’ve been both editor and publisher of the Alphaville/Second Life Herald since October of 2003, and I’m getting really burnt out (and have other projects I need to be working on). I’d like to hire a Chief Editor on a monthly basis. Basic idea is to average around a story a day. Editor would be free to build a staff of reporters (easier said than done). Starting pay is 25K Lindens per month, which would also have to cover pay to stringers and any employees you bring on board. I will stay on as publisher and contributing editor.

This past December we averaged around 1000 unique IP hits per DAY, and the Herald is still read by a number of media people outside of the game. It’s a good opportunity to make a run at turning a virtual newspaper into something “real”, and were I not so lazy and occupied with other stuff I might have looked at advertising etc. If you can get the paper to generate income, then we rethink your salary accordingly. I’m accepting applications now. Email me if you have any questions.

That’s a bit under 100/month at current GOM strike price, although I’m hoping the Lindend $ will recover a bit (at least agains the dollar if not the Euro).

ajdown, what the hell are you doing here in Europe? You belong in US

I live in England…. I don’t see why talking about an online newspaper editorial role has to do with me being in the US. I may end up there in due course… but I don’t need to go into details here. Care to elaborate?

I don’t actually care what you think of me, it’s totally irrelevant to the thread, I don’t think a great deal of you either if that helps at all, because all you’re doing is trolling. perhaps you’d care to let this debate take its natural course rather than forcing Uri to cut your crap out?

    You know it makes sense.

Oh Viva T…. that’s ok…. here’s me thinking it was the real Van come to hassle me again, but it’s just a wannabe.

So, my dear Viva…. care to show us a picture of you in a thong, or was the picture on the right one of your holiday snaps?

I’ve never met Van, I’ve never lived with her. so I don’t know who she is. I don’t want to know who she is. Not interested, sorry

Van…. Evangeline… the famous AV scammer… I believe (if you really are Viva T) the “Fruitcake Lady” who was part of the FMFN empire?

How can anyone who frequents this site *not* know who Van is? S/he is a legend, almost as much as me!

Seriously, I’ve never played TheSimsOnline, so I don’t know what you’re talking about, so please stop talking to me about FMFN, famous scammer blah blah, thanks.

http://www.alphavilleherald.com/archives/000041.html is one place you might like to start remembering who you are. Either you really are Viva T, or you’re using the name falsely…. either way you’re a liar.

These ppl aren’t me. I think you’re talking to the wrong person, and some girl who called herself Viva T isn’t me, she is just a wannabe.

  22. ajdown@jp

    Jan 4th, 2005

Well Uri says “Vixxen” is Viva Toivonen, presumably based on a simple poster IP check…. which leads me to conclude that one of you is not telling the truth. Or maybe both. Or perhaps it’s an illusion created by Elvis from a spaceship somewhere above Roswell. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m even really me now.

ARE YOU THICK? I’M VIXXXEN AND VIVA TOIVONEN YES, BUT NOT VIVA T, FRUITCAKE LADY BLAH BLAH AS I SAID BEFORE, OKAY? JUST LET YOU KNOW YOU AND URIZENUS HAVE NO LIFE. IAN, DIDN’T YOU KNOW YOU REVEALED THAT YOU’RE FAT TOO, SO YOU BETTER STOP SITTING AND READING MY “ENTERTAINMENT” POSTS AND START GOING ON A DIET INSTEAD!

$100 LL is what it is…which is less than what a RL journo would get paid for a story a day…and you’re asking to run stringers on that measly salary, too. You can’t really ask an editor-in-chief to run advertising too and “raise their salary” because that violates the newsroom “firewall” principle of not mixing the editorial and advertising sides of a media operation….tho the “always fairly unbalanced” would probably not be troubled by any breaches in that “firewall”. Hmmm…I’m going to think about this….But I’d definitely take it in a more political direction, away from the sex sleaze. And the People want sex sleaze.
