Post Six Grrrl – Mikayla Gillespie

The Herald is pleased to present this week’s Post Six Grrrl – Mikayla Gillespie. Mikayla is co-owner of a mysterious island (“Talese”) coming soon to SL, and also co-owner of the art galleries in Whitlock. A big thank you goes out to Marilyn Murphy, the publisher of Players Magazine (available at Semang (208, 170)), who is responsible for these pictures and all of the Herald’s Post Six Grrrls.

Hi! My name is Mikayla – Mika for short. One day in November, through a series of unrelated events, I found myself downloading this “game” called Second Life. You see I was looking for a new MMOPG to fill my idle time. After going through the setup – which seemed liked forever, I met my first friend.

After getting to know this person for about a week (when their free trial time was coming to a close) – I found that not only was the person lying about their sex – but also their age, and pretty much everything else I had come to know. I found myself embarrassed mostly – why had I let myself fall for such trickery – but then again – it’s just a game, or is it? I was intrigued.

After a bit of a break, I returned to SL ready to learn more – and definitely wasn’t going to limit myself to the sandbox and newcomers anymore. Armed with my distorted thinking that real-life emotions couldn’t touch me here, I was – I bought a large amount of land in Joiner (and I made some great friendships there – Missy, Ivey, Angelica) and begin my first look. Hey, this isn’t real – I’ll be a cat – why not I thought? So, a cat I was – and off for my first build. Much to the horror of some of my neighbors – I built a very large mushroom – the design was in fact perfect for a levitating home. After realizing this mushroom could be built – I went off to buy a larger plot – for even a larger mushroom. I found a nice plot in Newman – and after buying a large amount of Lindens (thank you Hiro!) it was done. During this time, you could often find me strolling along on a pink bike – aimlessly really (I have a picture if you want to see) or hanging out at Atom’s shack. I enjoyed my big mushroom and cat appearance, but – got a little frightened when I saw my first furry romantic “engagement” – I quickly rushed to change into human form. I mean – I love animals – but I don’t “love” animals! This is the look which I still have today.

Somewhere along the road – I learned a valuable lesson. The people here, the emotions here – are all very real. In fact, there is no different between the emotions and feelings here than anywhere else – real or not. Perhaps I was even hit harder – because I was determined to believe that real life emotions couldn’t exist on the internet. Thank goodness I have come around!

I have met so many good friends now and have even embarked on a new adventure. Be looking for the island “Talese” come May 1st. I promise it will be worth your wait! Also if you are in for some art – I co-own (along with the island) the art galleries in Whitlock. If you are ever in the area – or if you would like your art to be on display here – please give me a shout. Other than that, I am loving my single, carefree sl life. I couldn’t enjoy my time here more. Thank you Marilyn – for finding me and giving me this wonderful opportunity.
