Skin Review: Mistress Midnight

Despite what Matthias announced last week about taking a bit of a break from the five skin designers who were interviewed last year by the Herald, I decided to go ahead and review this skin by Mistress Midnight. As a clothier, Mistress is a legend. Her texture work is superb, which has made her one of the best-known names in the industry. Quite a while ago, she released a few skins, but has since removed them from her stores. I recently IMed her to ask about purchasing one, and was faced with a tough choice: darker tan, light, or gothic. I chose the lighter skin tone (which is uncharacteristic for me), and I do think I made the right choice.

Out of the three skin tones, Mistress’ light tone has two very unique makeup sets that I’ve seen nothing like by other designers in SecondLife. One of these is shown above. Along with these two sets, the light set contains two “normal makeup” skins, one with darker lipstick than the other. I don’t like the way the lips were drawn on those as much as I do her “Pretty” makeup sets (as shown above), but they are still high-quality. One thing I don’t like about the face, though, is the fact that there are three earrings per ear that cannot be removed. These were present on all three of her skin tones, which is a shame. Some don’t always want to wear earrings or want to wear more fancy ones for formal occasions, and those make it nearly impossible.

Mistress’ nipples are very unique. They aren’t my favorite that I’ve seen, but they are very well-drawn and lifelike. One thing about her skins that I absolutely adore is that they are seamless. I searched and searched for a seam on this skin, but couldn’t find a single one. The belly button is also very well-done and realistic – something that’s not done often these days in skins.

The legs on this skin are, once again, seamless. One thing that did surprise me is that besides pubic hair, there is no genital detail at all on the skin. Some will like that, some won’t, but it does create an interesting situation. If wearing, say, sheer panties, nothing will be visible there, which can be good, but could also be bad if you actually WANTED something to show. I suppose this would boost prim genitalia sales so that they could even look mildly complete!

The price tag on this set of four skins was one of the things that surprised me most. For this set, Mistress only charged me $L1000. For skins of this quality, that’s not bad at all! If this is the look you’re going for and you don’t mind the three earrings that are built-in to each ear, then I would recommend this skin. It receives three of five stars from me, though I do still prefer the previously-reviewed Hybrid skin by Santana Lumiere.

Chipsen, you may have just made a Mistress profile quote with, “Mistress’ nipples are very unique.” :P
