SL Land Heist! XLS Operatives wipe out Space Monkey Corporation

XLS Officers Sweet, Cyanide, and Xaphon
Just a few days ago we reported a tale of betrayal on EVE online in which a corporation was infiltrated and its property (valued at about 16K US) was stolen. Just yesterday a similar heist went down in Second Life, when the Space Monkeys had 8K square meters of land ripped off (about $320 US) by operatives of the XLS corporation. The ever capricious Lindens have of course dabbled in the affair, seizing *some* of the property, as usual guided by principles that remain unarticulated and probably unformulated. Uri caught up with XLS officers Xaphon Mendicant, Cyanide Leviathan, and Sweet Surface for the skinny on the heist. (Thanks to Sami Suavage for the tip.)
You: so what’s shakin here, you got the monkeys up a tree?
Cyanide Leviathan: I like that analogy.
Cyanide Leviathan: So, uh. Ask us questions and we will answer them.
You: well I don’t have much in the way of background on this one…
Xaphon Mendicant: That’s understandable
Cyanide Leviathan: We stole the all the land from the space monkeys
Xaphon Mendicant: yes, I have castrated the Space Monkeys with my gilded axe of dishonor
You: ok frst, who are the space monkeys
Xaphon Mendicant: the space monkeys are a major corporation of some-what skilled builders.. and assholes, and losers.
Cyanide Leviathan: Xaphon was an officer in their land holding group.
You: why did you want to fuck them up?
Cyanide Leviathan: I floated the idea to him of leaving the group and possibly bringing a few skilled members to XLS
You: so xaph, you didn’t join with the intent of fucking up the munks
Xaphon Mendicant: No, I didn’t
Xaphon Mendicant: I was a very faithful and dedicated member of the group
You: so why did you decide to fuck them up?
Xaphon Mendicant: Because I trust Cy and my other friends much more with my future, I figured I could break off ties with an old group that didn’t seem to have a use for me at the same time and eliminate the competition at the same time
You: so now tell me about the new group.
Xaphon Mendicant: The new group, XLS, is a collaboration of the most skilled scripters and builders in the game
Cyanide Leviathan: Except for me.
Cyanide Leviathan: I just hold the land.
Xaphon Mendicant: Cy is our life blood, however
Xaphon Mendicant: The officer part of the group will be restricted much more than the Space Monkey’s failed system, the current officers trust each other very much and I don’t see that changing any time soon
You: who are the officers in your group?
Xaphon Mendicant: at this moment the active officers are Sweet Surface, Lance Mirabeau, Cyanide, and I
You: ok, now tell me what you did to rip off the monkeys
Cyanide Leviathan: Xaphon invited me to the landholder group
Xaphon Mendicant: We sold the land to ourselves after I invited Cyanide to the group responsible for the group land
You: and sold it for a dollar I presume?
Xaphon Mendicant: Sure did
You: What were the total holdings you sold to XLS?
Cyanide Leviathan: one 1184 m2 plot
Cyanide Leviathan: and one 946 m2 plot
Cyanide Leviathan: the 946 m2 plot has been taken by LL though, after several SM officers complained
Sweet Surface: Pah, Complainers.
Sweet Surface: They should deal with the fact that we out-smarted them.
You: why didn’t the lindens seize the bigger plot?
Cyanide Leviathan: No idea.
Sweet Surface: They should have recalled us earlier.
Xaphon Mendicant: A corrupt linden, in my opinion, has placed the land “on hold”
Sweet Surface laughs. Corrupt.
Xaphon Mendicant: That was a foolish thing to do
You: which linden is that?
Xaphon Mendicant: Nicole Linden
Cyanide Leviathan: I dont think she is corrupt
You: why is she corrupt?
Cyanide Leviathan: she is new and inexperienced
Xaphon Mendicant: I stand corrected then, mistake or not, it was a foolish thing to do
You: so Gov Linden holds the land now?
Sweet Surface: Nope
Sweet Surface: Nicole Linden holds the land
Cyanide Leviathan: I believe she took some land to make it ‘fair’
Xaphon Mendicant: No, Nicole Linden herself
You: hehe, maybe she’ll keep it for herself!
Cyanide Leviathan: Our reasoning behind this not being a violation of the TOS
Cyanide Leviathan: is that Xaphon was a long time officer of the group
You: no its not a TOS violation
Xaphon Mendicant: It indeed was not
You: but that doesn’t stop lindens from dabbling
Cyanide Leviathan: and they basically made a contract with him saying that they knew this could happen
Cyanide Leviathan: and they chose to trust him
Cyanide Leviathan: they chose wrong, obviously, heheh
You: where was the land located
Xaphon Mendicant: Jessie
You: aha
Xaphon Mendicant: Over 8,000 square meters of Jessie land
You: so we are talking a value of about 320 dollars US?
Xaphon Mendicant: That’s correct
Cyanide Leviathan: Xaphon was going to sell about 3600 m2 for 40k
You: wait, where did the 8K number come from
Xaphon Mendicant: The amount of land that was taken
You: up above you said it was only 2K
Cyanide Leviathan: no
Cyanide Leviathan: Those are the XLS holdings
Cyanide Leviathan: the rest went to xaphon, who is selling the rest
You: ok, I just saw it for sale
You: I saw it was sale for 80K lindens or so
You: which would be $320 US
You: give or take
Cyanide Leviathan: I decided that it was likely that the lindens would reclaim the land, so i ungrouped the XLS land and put it on my own name, to use the proceeds to buy land in a different sim
Cyanide Leviathan: for the XLS group
You: ok so then the total haul was about 10K m of land?
Cyanide Leviathan: no, 8k
Cyanide Leviathan: so 6k to xaphon
Cyanide Leviathan: 2k to me
You: 2K to you in XLS
You: and how much to Nicole?
Cyanide Leviathan: unfortunately the linden took about 1000 m2 from me
You: ok gotcha
Cyanide Leviathan: and 512 from xaphon
Cyanide Leviathan: but it was the complete land holdings of the space monkey group
You: Did you guys read the story from EVE online?
Xaphon Mendicant: No, EVE is boring :p

Cyanide Leviathan: and they will get suspended/banned if they do anything in other sims

Xaphon Mendicant: I’m not taking their threats seriously
You: are you worried that the Lindens are going to undo this whole thing?
Cyanide Leviathan: yes
Cyanide Leviathan: that’s why we are selling the land

Feh, at least when the Lindens seize land they should use the “Governor Linden” account to make it seem a little more dignified. If it says “Nicole Linden” how can you tell if it isn’t just a former player who skilled her sim and leveled up to become a Linden Liaision in Strategic SL? You can’t. So how can you tell when/if the Lindens (former players now leveled up to Lindens) are settling scores? You can’t lol.
I’d really love to hear their TOS citation on this. Must be very creative.

You’re totally right there Prokofy, and never under estimate their ability of interpreting the TOS in the most of creative ways to get what they want outta people, sadly there is very little anyone can do about it. The only thing that actually comes into mind if some players were to “boycott” SL, and if others were to hold large public demonstrations in the welcome area and other key places in SL for long enough; then who knows what could happen and how it may change the game. Ofcourse those scenarios are highly hypothetical, since virtually no one is SL actually have the “balls” to do it. Oh well!

LOL, Xaphon taught me the whole ‘danger of officer’ lesson back in March! The circumstances were a bit different, but same outcome. Luckily it was only a 512 parcel that I was able to buy back from the guy he sold it to. I kicked him out of another group we were in and told everyone in Jessie about him. No hard feelings, no Lindens, no problems, all done. What makes me laugh my ass off here is that the Monkeys knew about Xaphon and didn’t take him seriously. Cyanide? The guy is a wwii soldier and is in this for the fun. Hey, I am glad to have that monstrous build away from our beloved slums.
If the Lindens are not going to protect their landowners then the landowners need to protect themselves. I can’t feel sorry for you when you have been warned (which they were). Are the two small parcels the Lindens recovered a consolation prize? This is a funny joke…

Cyanide – biggest fucking asshole griefer that ever went in SL in my opinion, how they ever banned my ass for good when that fucker is in there performing blatent acts of terrorism i dont know. I wonder if he’s Phil’s bitch or something and thats how he manages to get away with so much.
The guy is a total moron land sales terrorist. Why you publish this crap, promoting his activities i have no idea. Given that quote, why in Hades is Nicole seizing land?
Either establish a definite role in dispute resolution or get the hell out of the way. This current anti-policy the Lindens have of *saying* they can’t get involved and then dabbling depending upon the whim of the moment is the worst possible thing they can do. It doesn’t help that when they *do* dabble they tell us they can’t tell us *why* they do or even admit to their doing it.
It’s like the Lindens find themselves in the position of Greek gods, and like the gods, can’t help but dabble in the affairs of mortals — apparently for the entertainment value.
Anyone know why Xaphon got banned? Or was it “for any reason and no reason”.

Makes me remember a time when a friend did this same thing, yet he was banned the land seized back from him, and he was booted from game.
So why do these guys get away with it? Sorry this is literally the exact same thing. IN that case tho I think it was whoevers D$@K the complainant was sucking at the time, cuz she did plenty of that to get what she wanted.

I guess this event brought closer attention to all of our accounts, and they caught that Xaph’s IP… Who knows.
In any case, no, he wasn’t banned for this occasion, beyond popular hope.
