Costello Family Hosts Katrina Fundraiser

The Costello Family is hosting a Benefit Party all weekend this weekend to raise money for those devastated by Hurricane Katrina. the Party will last for 48 hours at Heavens Island starting at 6am game time Saturday September 3rd and will continue on throught til 6am Monday September 5th. There will be 2 parties, Hypnotic Radio will DJ and we have prizes to raffle off throughtout the weekend. There are a host of people that will set the donation box on their land to help us help those in need.

Who else finds great irony in the fact the US can invade entire poor countries with stupid wars that are costing up to or more than a Billion dollars a month and have no problem with it.
But they struggle to help a *single city* in thier own country ravaged by natural disaster that had plenty of warning??
about 30 million people live in Iraq. Only about 480,000 live in New Orleans, and of those only 60,000 – 100,000 were left desperate and homeless. for 4 whole days.
Why is it so damm hard to help the people of N.O ? Where’s the huge problem?

well RB first off they had to find a way to get into the city. Secondly they have to stabalize the city and secure it from the bunch of idiots who are running around town with guns shooting at choppers & police officers trying to help.

It’s funny how everyone can sit at thier homes and say why this and why not that. what would you do in this situation? the same as those relief workers and government officials. the best you could under the circumstances.

why weren’t the national guard toops prepositioned in the Superdome? Why are they only now coming from places like Michigan? Santino, I’m sitting here in Italy watching the Italian news, German news, BBC, and CNN international, and while I’m sure that Fox news US consistently gives you a rosey picture, it is a total and complete international humiliation. Even the international Fox (i.e. Rupert Murdoch networks) are telling that story. Get satelite and watch Sky News for crying out loud.
My only question is this: exactly what level of incompetence must W and his administration sink to before reality sets in. This guy is Incompetent on everly level imaginable. Get out of your bubble and take a whiff of reality once in a while.

it takes time to get food, medical supplies, bus orginization, volunteers, and all the other essentials needed to make this effort happen. then once it’s orginized.. it has to be put together and prepared to geti nto the hot zone… the there are a bunch of jackasses who are firing on Military Choppers, and firing on the police.. No one is going to send aid workers or relief into an unsafe zone.
EVERYONE is in dissaray right now… did you see the mayor? the police chief? every sing man and woman who is down.. including people who are helping.. are in a severe state of disorientaion..

By the way, if you actually watched something besides Fox you should know that there have been offers from rich countries and poor countries (as poor as Sri Lanka) to help. I have been watching UN disaster relief experts on international TV begging for an invitation to help out. Everyone is offering to help but your president is too busy sculpting his stud muffin body with 2 hour/day workouts and packing tissues into his crotch to make his package look bigger to do anything to help.
Exactly what level of incompetence would W have to achieve before you actually admitted that the guy is a total and utter incompetent rich boy failure.
And it *is* a political issue, because this disaster is a political failure at the federal level. It is the direct result of federal neglect. It is the direct result of incompetent people in the federal governmet not knowing what they are doing. It is a direct result of people being in positions of power because of privilege and not competence.
Please, show show some slight indication that you are awake are are capable of seeing what is transparently obvious to the rest of the world. Our leader is inept, and thousands of people are dying because of his ineptitude.

I just wanna say that all them people are in my prayers along with all the troops and volunteers. And thank everyone at American Red Cross for all they have done. All of Mexico for sending over 40,000 troops to help us when we are in need.
Praying and wishing for the best of those of our friends who we miss having online and are worried if they are ok. To Trigger and Cyber and Jac and all the other ones I missed that have gone down there to volunteer.
And definately to the Costello family for all they have done and the time and effort put into this. To all the donators that have donated. Thank you all so much!

I guess I am unsure why at anytime that any one person, or any group of people want to help another person, or group of people it is a bad thing. I can only say that I am pround to know the Costello family and that they have once again taken up the flag of humanity and compasion to help and heal. We can all learn a thing or two from them. The thing is that none of are perfect, that is part of being human. We should be able to do what we can and try to do it the best we can, I am just so sorry to see that the best some poeple can do is gripe and complain (otherwise known as bitching) about every little thing instead of joining forces and trying to make a real difference. But hey, like my dad always says, (he still needs all our prayers BTW) “find something that you are good at and do it”. Guess some poeple are just good at things that seem otherwise useless. But another way of looking at it is that if it wasn’t for the naysayers and the complaining, the good that we do wouldn’t be nearly as sweet, so thanks to all the griping and complaining people of the world. I think the main point everyone is asking about is why 4 days to get any decent relief through? This wasn’t an earthquake or tornadoe or terrorist bombing. There was oddles of warning time.
Hell they were even tracking it and giving you updates on your nightly news shows. They watched this super storm building up out in the ocean for at *least* 3 days, turning into some omg uber destructive cat 5 monster hurricane, yet when it actually struck the city and the current situation was the result. What was thier reaction?
omg, omg, crap, crap, is this really happening? panic, panic. If i was president and knew a disaster of immense power was imminent at hitting a city, i’d prepare things BEFORE all the carnage and tradgerdy, not AFTER.
It is not just me and uri and other everyday people that are perplexed at what happened (or didn’t) and think it’s a disgrace. other World Leaders are confused as to how the Almighty Power that is the United States was caught so abruptly off guard by a hurricane hitting a single city. and is struggling to cope.
I mean what *can’t* the USA do? With a 6 or 9 Trillion $ economy, multible wars being waged, so forth. Yet here we have a relatively minor event by comparision and it seems to have completely stunned them. HELLO? Who’s asleep on the job here??
The only person that actually did anything to prevent it from being a complete catastrophy was the mayor of N.O . Multiple gods help you, if nearly half a million people didn’t do a mandatory evacuation. That would be a tradgery of mind boggling proportions.
I just can’t believe how this was handled. wow.

The Army Corps of Engineers was shut down at every turn when they warned the Bush administration that this could happen.
This is because waging an illigemitate war in Iraq is more important to them than a bunch of black people in N.O.
There is only one positive in this entire fiasco of red tape: the Bushies will be OUT of office in ’08. People aren’t going to stand for this shit.

Gee, I’d like to know just when you and Santino think it *is* ok to criticize the incompetence of the president. We can’t criticize the lack of preparation for a forseeable disaster, because that is just anti-american chicken little criticism when nothing bad has happened yet. We can’t do it during the disaster as thousands of people die, because that is unseemly. Next week you will say that it is not the time to criticize because it is a time to heal. Next year you will say it is not a time to criticize because it is time to move on.

When I emailed Uri I didn’t think that people would turn it into a damn debate but would actually come down to support a casue. The currant crisis in New Oleans IS a reflection on currant administration. However,I have been a longtime visitor of that once beautiful city(can’t see how it’ll ever be the same)and its problems are not excactly new.My brother lives there and I visit several times a year. My neice and nephew are driven 3 hours(both ways) to a private school because the public schools are some of the worst in America;Louisiana also is one of the worst of a dozen places to be a child; having poverty,health neglect,illiteracy,abuse of all kinds,teen pregnacey,DRUGS,and kiddy prostitution as some of its more pressing issues.Also, until a decade or so ago New Orleans was the murder capitol of America.
Sadly its political leaders of past and present administrations have done little to help the poor, I see the currant situation as a social commentary on the times here in the States in general.

Ahhh, I see the political blame game has started up. The nature of the internet being what it is, people want simplistic one or two sentence postings to affix blame on against whoever they happen to have an ax to grind with. It’s not that easy folks. If you want to affix blame put your political convictions aside and look with an open mind at the big picture.
Blame the President and FEMA for the initial slowness of the Federal response. There’s no doubt they got caught flat-footed and looked shocked and confused. Leadership was needed at the highest levels and Mr. Bush was anything but inspirational at this moment of crisis. Even after the Fed’s finally got asked for help by the state they moved ponderously for a couple of days.
Blame the Governor of Louisiana for being so slow to deploy the state National Guard (most are NOT in Iraq), implementing disaster relief and asking for pre-positioning of Federal assets prior to the hurricane hitting New Orleans. The hurricane hitting Louisiana came as no surprise to anyone.
Blame the Mayor of New Orleans for poor preparation before the hurricane hitting, issuing decrees that nobody followed and were not enforced, making idiotic political sound bite comments, and generally not preparing his city over the preceding years for natural disasters through useful training, exercises, and a second rate disaster plan. I know first hand that they weren’t prepared, their plans and preparations were eyewash.
Blame the New Orleans police department, 2/3’s of which walked off the job when they were needed most.
Blame the thug element of New Orleans for shooting, raping, killing, and looting non-survival goods in time of crisis.
Blame the political leadership from New Orleans all the way to the White House over the last 20 years that places a higher priority on building shiney’s than they do on infrastructure. Although they are far more important than the crap politicians love to spend money on, roads, dams, bridges, levy’s, etc. ain’t sexy. Maybe now infrastructure will be sexy. I hope it is. The levy’s were rated to take a category 3 and everybody was fine with that.
This disaster should have been federalized the minute it became apparent that the devastation was massive (within 24 hours), martial law (a federal responsibility that is usually requested by the state but does not have to be) imposed, looters shot on sight, and a tidal wave of aid sent in.
Kudos to the good people of Texas, and Houston in particular for stepping up to the plate while everybody else was fumbling around looking like incompetents.
As far as what the Europeans and others are saying, I couldn’t give a flying fuck. They just want to seize on anything they can point to help their justifiable large inferiority complexes.

I’m gonna keep my political views to myself, beacuse honestly it has no place in the comments section of this article. I will say, however, that I couldn’t be prouder of what occured this past weekend and I was truely honored to be a part of it.
To all the families of SL, mafia and non mafia, you really are to be commended for the efforts you put forth for people in need. I personally know quite a few people down south from this game and from my rl and am truely grateful to see the progression that’s being made to restore these people’s lives back to normal. Its an awesome and overwhelming feeling to gradually hear from members of my family telling us they’re ok.
Keep your prespectives on the stories that are being reported people. If you want to comment on the political aspects of what happened, why not type up a story regarding that instead of losing sight of what was/is trying to be accomplished with this one. The amount of unecessary bickering in this forum is overshadowing what should be being said.
Much love and pride to my family and all the families of SL. Whether or not I agree with you in our role play, I commend you all who supported this event or any other ways you contributed in your first lives.
