Infonet Infiltrated! (Well, Not Really)

by Alphaville Herald on 17/10/05 at 10:29 pm

Squagmire Stravinsky’s Infonet (or is it the g.Net now?) only gets more and more awesome. In fact, so formidable an operation is it that the Grid’s own “innernet” has now drawn the attention of cyberpunks and VW hackers. The Herald has learned that the Infonet complex was recently the target of an infiltration exploit that saw a couple of SL residents wandering around in Authorized Personnel Only zones near the beating heart of the Infonet itself. Fortunately, the attack seems to have been driven only by benign curiosity on the part of a couple of young avs out for a good time, and in any case, Squag’s security systems are comprehensive enough to deal with an intrusion of this nature. [UPDATE: As Squagmire herself points out, no data was affected by the wandering avatars, who weren't actually interested in the data in the first place, but only in Squag's amazing architectural achievement.]

Note that while you may see evidence in the link above that your correspondent was along for part of the ride, let us assure you that our motives were purely reportorial–and besides, we missed all the good stuff anyway.

Its human nature at its best, you see a locked door you try to find a way in, a big red button labeled “Do not push” you press. Oh and one more thing what security I couldn’t find it
