Party On, Grid

by Alphaville Herald on 22/10/05 at 8:07 am

In case you’ve nothing better to do today, just a quick reminder: The Herald turns two this weekend, and we’re having a party! Click that link for details. The festivities begin at noon SST (that’s Server Standard Time), and continue till whenever we all get bored and go home, so even if you can’t make it before the Veuve runs out, feel free to drop in later, by which time we’ll have moved on to that Moet crap, but will endeavor to keep things lively nonetheless. In Furness sim at the _blacklibrary.

Happy Birthday, boys! Dang, I wish I could have made it, but looking forward to next year’s party, and the year after, and the year after, and the year after…! ;-D Also looking forward to Seldon’s report. Anything fabulously scandalous happen? Do tell.

Hey, yoo-hoo? Are you still sleeping it off out there? Hey, gang, not only was like the ENTIRE GAME brought down last night by W-HAT, it served as a monstrous distraction to the loss of the Leader Boards and knowing the networth, ratings, group numbers, etc. etc. of all the people who move and shake our world. I particularly enjoyed finding myself on there at like no. 5109 or something, always just one or two ahead or behind, I dunno, like Lordly once. It was a rich source of entertainment. It’s now ALL GONE. And just when I had planned an evening snapshotting a lot of that and copying it down for later journalistic investigations (which I hope YOU were all doing! which is why we haven’t heard from you!) — bang, the game’s down for the whole evening. Now it’s down for the day with a new patch.

I didn’t even get a chance to batten down all the tarps in Alston and Furness, those lovely British seaside rental communities of mine, where the tenants always seemed to get whacked hard by game patches. I cringe each time they do a game patch — and one of the reasons I call it a game and a game patch is I know that this week, I’ll suffer X percent of business loss due to tenants who can’t log on, tenants who give up, tenants who decide they don’t want to hang in such a laggy game anymore, etc. etc.

Then…days of CS time answering all the questions that start out “Why is YOUR LAND eating my objects?” lol. Um, because OUR GAME is eating ALL our objects lol.

Oh, nm. Go back to sleep! In about 2 days, the jello should be done out of the fridge. Hey, I really hope you did get some notes on the leader boards!

We’re up against a Nov. 1 deadline and I’m in Canada doing my philosophy thing anyway. You know Prok, you *could* file the report yourself.

You mean the W-HAT thing? I wasn’t on when that was all happening. Um, as Seldon would say, “I’m having a RL spike,” no can do. Oh, I did blog one report on the party you can all read at http://secondthoughts.typepad.com and an essay on the W-HAT prelude too.
