Anshe Ties Up in the Rivers Run Red

by Alphaville Herald on 01/05/06 at 1:21 pm

Two of the biggest names in Second Life corporate life announced a strategic alliance last week, according to this press release from AnsheChung.com. That’s right, Anshe is steering her land baron’s boat down Fizik Baskerville’s Rivers Run Red virtual world branding and marketing concern. Is there a wave of VW consolidation on the way? Isn’t it too early for that? No word on new deals yet, but keep your eye peeled for new competition in the space that the Electric Sheep have so far staked out for themselves. Can’t say I’m particularly bothered by this, given Anshe’s recent financial problems and falling on her A$$ with a new game currency that nobody was interested in, I don’t see it as being anything of great interest.

It is dangerous for any one individal in any game to hold too much power – and unless LL step in soon, they will be working for Anshe.

Neither of these companies affect what I do in SL, and as long as it stays that way, I couldn’t give a toss about either of them.

Walker, or whoever SL Herald is, I’m puzzled why there’s even a conception of “a space that ESC has staked out for themselves”. Huh? They get the WHOLE metaverse? Or do they just get the fetaverse? Can they leave a *little* piece of the pie for others? I mean, gosh, they can’t be EVERYWHERE. Frankly, with Anshe and Rivers Run teaming up, with world/people/land management and design integrated like that, it’s quite possible they’ll run circles around your ESC. I’m still trying to figure out what ESC *does* besides goes to gaming conferences and make elevators for Democracy Island with Manhattan wallpaper backgrounds.

I think this is just a silly attempt at some very minor press for both companies. Notice they simply allow one another to look at each others projects and nothing more. Not much of a strategic anything if you ask me.

Speaking of press, if bored, pick up a copy of Dazed and Confused issue #137 (Red Hot Chili Peppers on Cover). Turn to page 88, a mini-feature on Second Life featuring myself and a few others.

Ok, back on topic… Anshe is going to have some major competition soon from a mutual friend of ours anyway. Something that will end her monopoly and probably put a big dent in her business. (I love having insider trading type of knowledge lol) It’s from another WELL known company in the game. If you got a spare $100,000 to $1,000,000 Lindens you want to invest, hit me up and I’ll get you in contact with the player/company doing this IPO. Has nothing to do with me (besides this is a well established company that everyone knows and trusts), but I want to see Anshe on her knees so offered my help in finding some investors.

Somebody other than Prok and Marsellus gets some press and this is what happens. Two of the biggest glory hounds in SL history have this to say:

Summary of Prok: “Hey look at me – its all about me and my ideas – which are the only ones righteous and correct.”

Summary of Marsellus: “Hye look at me – its all about me, me, me and all the neat things I can make happen.”

    Yawn. . .
