Ageplay is on german TV, too

Two reports arrived on the mojo wire this morning that may help explain Linden Lab’s sudden interest in account verification – an apparent reversal in direction after opening the metaverse to essentially anyone last June with unverified access to the “over 18” garden of cyber delights.

Mainz TV and Speigel Online report that German authorities are taking an interest in the ageplay scene in Second Life. The media appears to have found the story interesting as well – with the German reporters making a visit to Robin Linden to show her some of what they found.

Robin
Ageplay? in Second life? shocking!

This could not have been the happiest day in Robin’s work life since, as reported previously in the Herald, the Linden’s crackdown on ageplay has been largely ineffective – and now the mainstream media has noticed.

Kiddie_porn1

We can hope for a happy ending however, as Robin Linden’s real life typist appears on camera and promises to find out who is behind the ageplay and report them to the police. Here at the Herald we are sure this will all end well, given the Linden’s stellar record for careful planning and thoughtful consideration of complex issues. In other good news, at least the grid was working well enough that those television reporters could get those simulated child porn videos – so perhaps the resident’s Open Letter complaints can be swept under the rug.

Calling the cops on ageplay…should work just about as well as calling the Feds on those damn gridcrashers, huh?

The FULL story was up this morning on The AvaStar – and it’s about RL child pornography in SL being investigated, not just Age Play.

So, a german TV group came in, made some kiddy pron AVs and did a movie of it.

I say ban all German TV groups. That’s the only way. Next they’ll come in and start raping a Philip clone AV.

In fact – I’ll bet one could make a bundle selling a pron viddy of Philip and Torley getting it on. This gives me an idea…

I love the deer-in-the-headlights look Robin has there, haha.

I knew Linden Labs people were freakin’ spineless. If you’re going to innovate, you have to make NEW rules. LL will spinelessly cave in to every little half-motivated self-interest group that grabs them by the nuts.

    In fact, let me start…

There’s a notable LACK OF MINORITIES in SL!!! I want this to be rectified immediately! More blacks and hispanics dammit! NOW!

    and um…

DISCRIMINATION! Almost 90% of clothing in SL is for WOMEN ONLY! We need to FORCE Lindens to make stores comply with anti-discrimination laws and sell an equal amount of men’s and womens items!! NOW!

    let me try another…

Second-Hand smoke!!! I see many AVs walking around with cigarettes and other smoking material. While the rest of the world has laws about smoking indoors, we would like to impose a gridwide ban on smoking all together! NOW!

    this is easy…

Linden Labs must comply with the PATRIOT ACT and provide reasonable security against muslim turrurists and other anti-christian groups! Require careful screening and searches of every person’s inventory before entering SL! NOW!!!

Come, join the fun!!! Prok – you there? First we take Manhattan, baby – then we take Berlin!!!

    @Loves Tards
Are you ill? even if this may be irony or sarcasm to compare the minority of criminal pedophile to ethnic minorities is totally wrong and i am sad that people like you exist…

the report shows that some age play groupmembers share rl childporn… this is why the linden is so shocked. and we should be shocked too… i mean the sl specific “industrial child fucking ageplay farms” are in my eyes interactive child porn. but when rl child porn is directly linked to this it is totally obvious what to do. I have reported myself a ageplayfarm but nothing happened. this is not acceptable…

OK, normaly I don’t give a Flying Fuck about the German Media, I even considered that they have planted any evidence shown in the clip.

BUT and this is a BIG BUT, I agree on that Second Life can not become the platform for people to exchange RL Photos showing Sex with minors in the sickest way.

I can only ask Linden to get there Asses up and start doing something to prevent anything like that.

On the other hand, having the “normal” residents pay for the behavior of a a very few (I hope) residents, or even for the Failure LL is making, is also out of the question.

I have no idea how they (LL) can prevent it, but they (LL) are the brainiacks and not me (otherwise I easily could take over Philips Job, smile)

Yawn. Why not go after real life adult pervs that go after kids, not consenting adults that engage in role playing in a virtual game? Most of the ageplayers in SL are not sexually based, more times than not I run across people that think it’s funny to use a freebie little avatar to engage in sex, but are not ‘littles’ in the truer sense of the term. Time to pick a new topic, this one is a few years old. Seems the Germans are new to the platform and decided to dig up an old ‘issue’. If a country doesn’t like the platform, ban your citizens from it or regulate it’s use. Game over.

Man, Robin looks so… “omg I’m fucked”.

FYI, in case nobody noticed: THE LINDENS ARE NOT CONTROLLING USER-CREATED GAME DEVELOPMENT. Duh. Find the users, not the Lindens.

  15. I love all this “I want, I want, I want” bullshiat. Who the hell cares wtf offends you? The fact is, its a bunch of weirdos masturbating to cartoons.

If you WANT govt intrusion on all things you find offensive, then be prepared when it spins around and bites you on the ass too! Personally, I find Germans (as a whole) more offensive than 2 adults playing house with each other. See the movie “Der Todesking” if you want to see how offensive German cinema can be. To me, someone slicing their member in half while masturbating blood jiz like a fountain and graverobbing necrophiliacs sliming up a rotting corpse with their tongues is a little more offensive to me – you guys love that shiat. Go do it where I don’t have to see it if I don’t want to, and we’ll get along just fine.

But a married couple, with the wife saying “Oh daddy, take me, I’m your widdle wuvvy-dovey girlie…” and you perverts suddenly get your leiderhousen bunched up your twats, and try all sorts of underhanded tactics to make the world conform to your warped “ideals”.

Don’t get me wrong – it’s not only Germans. I just don’t like Germans so I use them as an easy example. Go drink a bier Shultzie, it’s not about you, as much as you’d like to think. I simply think you’re all a buncha fat drunks that smell like stale piss and vomit. Just my opinion – you’ve had yours.

I don’t condone ageplay. I have 3 daughters and if anybody even looks sideways at them, I’d jackboot their ass back to the 3rd reich. But I’m also involved in what my children do. I protect them from things like that. If you have children on the grid, they are not only there against the Terms-of-Service, but also breaking REAL laws and should be put in child welfare because of your inability to raise them properly.

The reason this is an issue is because people who claim to have “high morals” are secretly fascinated by things like this. Many won’t admit it – but you know damn well that childpron fantasies are going through their mealy brains a lot more often than us normal people, who hardly ever even need to acknowledge that it happens.

Don’t spend all day thinking about two cartoons humping each other, and you’ll be a much more socially acceptable person.

  16. Chromanoid

    May 8th, 2007

you dont get the point… secondlife is used to share real child porn pictures with real children. In some ageplay groups you can ask for them and then childporn textures (real images from the real world with real child porn)

first this shows the quality and intention of these ageplay groups and second this is something every provider who offers online datastorage must prohibit. I have no problem with reallife ageplay where old men wear diapers and drink human milk or something like that.

but when secondlife becomes an imageshack for child porn the lindens have to do sth. against it… and i think identity verification is a good way to find those perv uploaders….

I think Robin looks fabulous, it’s amazing how her RL hair holds up at times like this as good as her prim hair, which is fabulous, too.

I’m glad people in RL, including the German media, are taking an interest in the effect all this supposed “cartoon” activity has on people in RL. It’s good for them to bring that scrutiny to this sort of activity — they are free to do so.

If it turns out there really is nothing to it, and it’s only “consenting adults masturbating to cartoons,” then they can decide whether that’s legally or morally actionable. Perhaps it might be. Some communities may find that broadly offensive and will act on it, and that’s their right, in real life.

This constant dismissal of concerns that SL doesn’t impact RL, that something like child pornogrpahy with avatars doesn’t create an enabling environment, is just plain horseshit. It does. And as anyone who has studied Internet-related crime, a certain percentage of child pornographers and hate-mongerers and extremists find a way to carry out their “fantasies” in RL, and there *is* a correlation between simulation and reality. Precisely because that correlation exists, law-enforcers, and those concerned about legality and morality broadly, have to care.

I’m just not subscribing to the usual fuck-you hedonism of the licentious SL crowd that what people do as simulation in SL doesn’t matter to their souls, or to their communities realities in real life. I don’t think the firewall that everybody would like to think exists between SL and RL in fact exists to the extent they believe.

I’m really hating this anti-German racism I’m seeing here in this thread, too. It’s a disgrace. This is a platform with 60 percent non-Americans on it now, apparently, and the European population is growing faster than the U.S., and I think it would behoove the Americans to stop acting like boorish pigs.

I find it interesting that for all this time SL has existed in the US, which is 75 percent religious and known for its right-wingers and conservatives and Moral Majority and whatnot, it’s the far-less-religious Europeans, in the from of the Dutch, Belgians, and Germans, who have taken up these morality issues in SL. It’s partly a function of the awful child pornography ring scandals that have happened in these countries, I suppose.

BTW, I’m not sure that I would characterize as a “consenting adult” somebody who was traumatized and brutalized as a child, and who finds their way to an online virtual predatory willing to make them go through that abuse again. They may be damaged enough not to be able to make free and willing choices.

This is a decoy!! It’s not about agelayers having toon sex, it about them swaping REAL pictures of child porn. Make people resgister credit cards to identify who they are.

  19. Barney Boomslang

    May 8th, 2007

Just to confirm it against the nay-sayers: the news was about _real_ childporn, not only virtual porn. What they did show robin where – partially blocked – pictures of _real_ childporn. Robins comment in the piece to someone not shown in the movie, but in the room “this is real children, not avatars” and her voice _did_ sound shocked.

Don’t get it wrong: the german state attorney is hunting a real child porn distribution case here. Sure, there are scenes in the piece where they comment on the virtual child porn, too – and according to german law, depiction of sexual child abuse is counted as child porn, even if it is painted or constructed in a 3D world. But this case is about the real thing.

Wow, Prokofy! You’re actually ranting on an issue I care about (on the same side, even), making sense, and not using gratuitously insulting name-calling. Way to go!

SL *is* RL. It’s a real me, sitting at a real computer, really saying things, really creating images, really interacting with other real people. Yes, it is indirect interaction through technological media–just like on the telephone or email (usually). If someone calls you up and makes anonymous sexual advances or violent threats, it is a *real* crime. Why wouldn’t the same be true in SL?

I don’t want to prevent people from doing in SL things I consider disgusting. I don’t even want to prevent people from having their avatars do in SL things that would be illegal if done physically, in person (like shooting someone in a war game, for instance, or even dressing up like a child and having sex).

But I absolutely want to prevent people from doing things that are illegal–like creating or distributing child pornography or engaging in sexual activity (virtual or otherwise) with minors. So if people are using SL in order to exchange child pornography, they need to be stopped. Period. And if LL cannot verify ages in order to keep minors off the main grid, or to assure me that the people I interact with are adults, then there is NO safe sex in SL, and EVERY interaction must be treated as though the other party is a minor.

  22. Reality

    May 8th, 2007

distribution of images depicting real children? Yes by all means stop such a thing.

Enforce the belief that Second Life is somehow a virtual form of Real Life, with living people existing amongst all the electrons? Provide objective scientific evidence to back up such a claim – otherwise go seek help (at the very least start citing such a belief, based on nothing more than conjecture and your own opinion, as such – an opinion and belief).

In fact – I’m still waiting on another person to provide such evidence ….

  23. urizenus

    May 8th, 2007

reality, who do you think is running those avatars if not other people? Bots? Evil Martian scientists? If you don’t believe you are interacting with real people in second life why do you believe you are doing so on this blog? or on the telephone? It’s just computer mediated communication. The fact that an obsolete game engine is supplying graphics doesn’t make things less real.

Waitaminnit – WHERE in the article does it say anything about RL pron distributed in SL? How is the article about that (as some have stated)? I think some people are reading a different story than the one I see here. This article seems to be about ageplay in SL.

Understand – if someone is distributing something illegal in SL they are breaking the law. You may report them and let the authorities do what they do. But to insist that (LL) institute all sorts of draconian measures just on the whim of a few tender-minded people is asking for a police state for all.

I’m sure there are plenty of other venues where stuff like that is more widely distributed – on the streets, backalleys, fishery warfs, and newsgroups. SL has got to be a comparatively fringe distribution point for that stuff.

I mean, who is going to spend the time learning SL’s controls, $ for uploading, inventory management, etc. just so they can see some pictures that they can get eleswhere without the learning curve? An insane concept, but I’m sure a lot of self-righteous people get a boner just thinking about the possibility all day, every day.

And that fantasy someone said about the imaginary person “brutalized as a child, and who finds their way to an online virtual predatory willing to make them go through that abuse again.” and the ever-so-scary “Childpron Farms”- you guys like that don’cha? Can you come up with any more scenerios like this? I’m sure you can – you could probably write an entire book filled with bad-brain scenerios like that couldn’cha? Thought so.

And I don’t hate germans because I’m a piggish amerikan. I’d hate them if I lived in China, or Central Eurasia or anywhere – I just decided not to like them today. My prerogative. Maybe tomorrow I’ll love germans and hate pasta or something. Or I might just say the heck with the whole “hate” thing and go fishing instead. I can do that – but what I shouldn’t do is what people are doing here – trying to force far reaching laws and imposing totalitarian rule over everybody who doesn’t think exactly like them.

Besides – germans eat saurkraut. You ever smell that sh!t? If we start enacting police state laws over the concerns of the self rightous few, pretty soon you won’t be cooking no saurkraut around here baby! Death by cabbage-heading for that offense! You can be sure of it.

P.S. I love mexicans and blacks today. I promise I’ll love germans tomorrow okay?

  28. Reality

    May 8th, 2007

Urizenus – Who is behind the avatar is irrelevant. The Avatar itself is not a real person and is in no way alive.

Why you insist on perpetuating the notion of an Avatar being a real person is beyond me ….

This Blog? No one has claimed that the text here is alive. telephone? again, no one has claimed that the transmission signal is alive.

People have however attempted to claim that an Avatar is somehow alive – the notion that this is true due to the operator of said Avatar is just as absurd as claiming the Avatar is an independent living entity. People have claimed to actually live in Second Life – which is technologically impossible at this time. All one can do is live off of Second Life, just like people do with any other Internet related system.

Now then, with all of that said … Do you have objective scientific evidence to support the notion that an Avatar is a real person and is alive?

If you do not then the notion that an Avatar is alive, the notion that a person can live in Second Life or any other part of the vast network of interconnected servers called the Internet is – as it has been since the inception of the Internet – false, not to mention impossible with current technology.

If they are swapping RL child porn, then grab the nasty players by their short hairs and introduce them to their cellmates, Crusher and Drippy Joe. That is unacceptable in VR, RL, TV… augh. Unacceptable anywhere. Offensive in every meaning of the word.

BUT! But if this is just a couple of adults with tasteless roleplaying and no real kiddyporn or kids are involved, then the police have better things to do. To say that the VR activity leads to RL activity has been discredited over and over again. People don’t act out what they see in video games, they don’t commit suicide because they listened to heavy metal, and they don’t get laid in RL just because they can in their various fantasy games.

If there are no kids or real pictures involved, then this is just adults screwing around with disgusting cartoons and the police should be hunting RL perverts instead. You can lock up adults for VR ugliness when all the RL ugliness has been hauled away.

How will any of this age verification stop the traffic or RL child porn? It is illegal, but people can eMail it to each other. Does this make the ISP responsible, because the transfer the data? Is hotmail legally at fault because it holds the eMail? So is LL going to scan our inventories and monitor our uploads to determine if adult content is coming in? And what if a land owner choices not to classify property as adult? What if kinky hentai stuff that is normal in Japan is upsetting to some Iowa farmer (no offense to anyone in Iowa). If you consider that SL is a 3D internet, then the same issues should be applied. Instead, LL is trying to cover its butt while making the people who created the world legally responsible (with no authority of their own)

German Abused Children Expert: Um yeah, these fellows come into a virtual world, learn about their desires and how to meet them in real life.
German police detective: Wow, we had never looked at this site before, this looks twisted please reporters investigate further.
jugendschutz.net creator: What happened to the age of the “game gods” its happening in their system, and they should be able to program this problem out of their system.
Reporter [at least credible point] This person in the white dress claims to be 13, and is having sex for money, therefore she must be 13 and having sex for money, look at the line of people having sex and watching.
Other Reporter: Dude, this fellow on a child porn forum wants to send you some pictures of sick stuff he did with a real kid in SL, want them?
Reporter: Eat this Robin [shows photos]
Robin: [shocked] Um if you reported this to us we would have looked at the abuse report eventually and maybe called the real life police.
Reporter: We decided to give them to a real police officer instead, who is actually competent, and was salivating at the notion of something to investigate from the moment we first brought this system to his attention. Oh and your decision to verify is far to little to late, but did you know that linden is lime tree in German? “If the operator company of Second Life gets the problem not immediately into the grasp, the fall of this beautiful new world is marked.”

Join today to fight, not just out hatred for the fur fags (we have that aplenty) but for AMERICA (which automatically assumes a hatred of fur fags fyi)!

And so I leave you with this delicious copy pasta message. Ponder the words written here long and arduously. For they may very well be the words of your salvation… or your eventual fall to the whims of Anonymous.

“Good evening, furries, angry libertarians, Linden moderators, and the like.

There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, words are being shouted into internet radio microphones, and mods with bansticks will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the ban may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with Second Life, isn’t there? Furry yiff parties, mods silencing of those who seek change, and what have you. And where once you had the freedom to object, think, and speak as you saw fit, you now have IP bans and hypocritical labelers coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who’s to blame? Well, certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were afraid. Who wouldn’t be? Doomsday boxes, Mario moshpits, flying fiery phalli. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned to the Lindens and those who would call others “terrorists.” They promised you order, they promised you peace, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient consent. Tonight, the Patriotic Nigras forum was taken permanently offline by Proboards weeaboo, demanding that groups such as our humble organization be silenced. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me, outside Furnation, the GYC, and the land of those who would judge. I would like to remind such of the following. The pool is still closed. Anonymous does not forgive. Anonymous does not forget. We are united as one. Divided by zero. ”

    @NotableLULZ:
“The Germans have a history of banning videogames dating back to carmageddon. Why can’t they just ban SL and be done with it?”

    1. there are ot many games banned from germany:
    Mortal Kombat 1-3
    Manhunt (all versions)
    Wolfenstein 3D
All other games are which you think are banned, are not allowed to sell in public stores. but you can buy/get them _legal_ in video stores with age check (18 y.o.).

    2. sl is www in 3d. if in the www there is a page where you can get child porn the site creators will be investigated, the page will be closed by the provider… this is a normal procedure… why do you think this procedure is not good for sl?

    3. i do not say to ban all the age play groups but age play groups where the primary aim is to share real child porn should be closed immediately…

    @Kahni Poitier
“and the ever-so-scary “Childpron Farms”- you guys like that don’cha? Can you come up with any more scenerios like this? I’m sure you can – you could probably write an entire book filled with bad-brain scenerios like that couldn’cha? Thought so”

It seems to me that you never ever have seen such a place in sl… i saw some of them and reported them but nothing happened… just watch the video there you can see such places…

    Chromanoid:
Your first response should be directed to Woolly Mittens, not NotableLULZ (I think you mistook SLH’s bass-ackwards commenting system; it goes post-then-poster).

I think that one of the larger issues has been glossed over here. Yes any access to RL kiddie pron should be banned. Apparently German law prohibits virtual kiddie pron as well, which might explain the interest of the German police beyond dealing with the RL pron.

The bigger picture is that SL is not a utopia but a place where humans experience very human things. The fact that these dirty little secrets of life have found a place in a virtual world marks, in a sad way, that SL is an incredible success. It really does present an uninhibited virtual world. Now people go there and play out the things they might do if they could be unshackled by morals or societal standards, or any other limitation they may have.

This particular thread has many elements of debates about what to do with pedophiles in RL. It even includes some discussion about what kiddie pron is permissible. (virtual pron vs. pron with RL persons) a topic that has been coming up in RL high courts.

If RL is any guide, and it looks like it has been so far, we should expect convicted pedophiles restrained from being anywhere where children might be, there being public lists of the names and locations of sex offenders and so on.

SL, welcome to the human condition.

Shultzengruber Geshundheit, this article is about role playing, but in the original TV show this mockery of story comes from (Why didn’t they ask a German to translate?), they say they have evidence of real kiddie porn being distributed.

  49. [Rant on] I’m a surprised (especially as this is Pixeleen’s) at a couple of things journalism things here.

First, why run the NSFW picture on your front page with no warning? (Yeah, it’s blurred, but people really don’t need their co-workers seeing some bald old-guy avatar having sex with a little kid avatar. Blurred or not, it could get somebody fired.)

Second, what’s with the chock-full-o-commentary “news” piece? It’s a touchy issue, you should treat it that way.

Then again, “Always Fairly Unbalanced” does cover a lot, I guess. [Rant off.]

Benjamin, um, why is the Herald required to make safe for people who surf non-work-related sites at work???

    I mean, that’s truly infantile.

Don’t surf non-work-related sites at work, and you will not have the problem of losing your job or at least not shocking co-workers or bosses.

My God, what is the world coming to, that lawyers demand of the free media that they have to build in all kinds of protective devices to keep the widdle darwings from any bad consequences of their licentious actions at work, when they should be doing work.

Oh, on their lunch-hour? Well, they don’t lie on their desk naked and have sex at work on their lunch hour. Some things just aren’t appropriate for the work environment. It’s not up to the Herald to police that in advance for people. They need to restrain themselves or learn how to tab down quick.
