SL Gay Military Fetish Group Strangely Quiet

One member wants to sell his uniform

Anyone who’s spent any time knows that gay men kind find a fetish in anything. One of the more common and popular fetishes is military gear. As fetishes go, it’s rather vanilla. (Note to readers: If you see someone with a brown hanky, run. Just trust me.)

Second Life does have a Gay Military Fetish group among its many, many gay groups. And like the many many groups this reporter is a member of, it’s pretty quiet. As in nothing. In the past six months, there has been no activity except for one guy wanting to sell his military uniform.

The point of the group, according to its charter is this: “This is a group for gay men with military fetishes- guys who like military role play, are into military uniforms, etc. Would also be great to build a “fort/barracks” so any advice or input (or donations of land ownership rights or money) on that is welcome.”

No idea if that goal was ever achieved. Repeated requests to the group owner, Ryan Rothlisberger, and to the group in general got no response. It took basically bugging the hell out of the one other member who was on to get any commentary. He, of course, didn’t want his name used.

The idea is good, if you can get people to participate. As in real life, getting gay people to participate in organizations is like herding cats. (I happen to be a huge homo. I can say that). The most active groups seem to be those that are part of the gay dance clubs and resorts in SL. Groups without some kind of business support tend to be quiet to the point of near-death. Many of the leather or fetish groups I did find didn’t seem to have that many members to begin with.

When starting this story, I’d hoped to find some people who have a deep fascination with the mystique of military uniforms. Or even dirty, perverted roleplay. I would have been happy with either. However, it turns out to be a group that is too quiet. Even the one person who could be interviewed for the story, nameless, said “Give up.”

Now if someone from the group would like to punish me for saying it’s too quiet, I’m available. I’ll bring the handcuffs.

I’m also gay, a Lesbian. I think Organizations aren’t so important to Gays anymore as our Acceptance in Society has increased to the Point where we feel more Confident Just standing alone.

trouble getting interviews with This group? Well they ARE Military, so they are probably sticking to the “Don’t ask, Don’t Tell” policy. ;)

for the record I have found a ‘gay paintings’ sim

not sure were it is – as I did not save the location ( found while random map diving) but it does exist – and I am sure an interested gay avatar will be able to find it

did not myself – as a male exclusivley playing a female avatar I did not visit it or have any interest in looking at more ‘penis worship’ images

    Corona,

Actually, gay men could. Leather is a fetish, but could also be considered drag. So the same could be true of drag queens impersonating women. Just using that as an example. Discuss. :)

Great story, good to see established gay sl journalist. I am in the process of making a gay oriented sl newpaper myself. Our publication will strickly focus on gay sl life, but will mostly just cover event and places.

Wow, it was remarkable to read this story 5 or 6 years after it was originally posted, and only a day after I joined that same group in SL.

Tillery, if you’re still active in SL, maybe you and I can meet up some time soon. In any case, I believe it is possible to build up a gay military community in SL, I won’t give up. :)
