Comments in LL’s customer survey black holed

Blind-type your comments, please – we aren’t reading them anyway

In early August, Philip Linden made a rare appearance on the Second Life Blog to announce that the Lab would be taking a bold new step – surveying residents to measure satisfaction and see if Second Life is getting better – or worse.

According to Philip, this information helps the Lab better cater to the needs of residents. With this in mind, I was pleasantly surprised to get a survey when I logged in a few days after the announcement. Strangely, while the survey form had a place to enter comments, that area was literally a black hole, at least on my MacBook Pro. But after blindly typing into the black comment hole I assumed that this problem would be fixed soon – Philip wants resident comments, right?

I was not alone in cursing the darkness, CAPTAIN NORALUNGA had the same problem. But why worry? King Philip had assured everyone in the blog that the “appeal of a system like this is that is can give us almost instant feedback when something is going wrong”.

Two months pass.

I logged this weekend in after yet another client crash, and the comment form appeared! Excellent!! The Lab still cares!!!

But as I looked forward to what would almost certainly be a fixed text comment area I felt a bit uneasy. They must have fixed the comment part of the form by now.

Nope.

The text comment area is still pitch black and it is still impossible to see what you type. This left me with a problem – I couldn’t really say the form had gotten better – but it hadn’t gotten worse either – it was exactly the same. I decided “getting worse” was probably the most accurate choice.

Thanks for your invisible comments

Can Ginsu Linden take some time off from crowing about how the lights are on in the Lab and turn the lights on in the customer survey? Or are we being sent a none-to-subtle message? Guys, this is getting serious – maybe it is time to stop lighting up blunts in the Lab?

Maybe they’re trying to make this a new statistic, where they can claim the negative feedback can be thrown out because no comments were available as to why the person said SL is getting worse.

    Doubt it but whatever.

give or take, a year from now, SL will be in death throes, or LL wont own it, to that I’m betting IBM is going to buy it or linden labs.

    Worked fine for me.

Not surprised you thought things were “getting worse.”

You do work for this shithole, after all.

I’ve got a desktop. It was black for me, too, each and every time I saw it.

    Well, it works for me.

This would appear to be a glitch, not a story.

Yeah, I had no problem seeing the text. I also know how to work my computer so that might be the reason. ;)
