Scarlett Niven – Post 6 Grrrrl
by Alphaville Herald on 12/10/07 at 10:08 pm
[Note from Justine Babii- I was lucky enough to attend the Budweiser Select Lingerie Legends contests in July and August, where I first met this week's Post 6 Grrl, Scarlett Niven. Scarlett won the July competition and went on to win the whole contest. She is as talented as she is lovely, and I only hope the pictures do her justice.]
When I first joined Second Life in back in early January of this year, my expectations were nothing more that what I had read in the article that had bought me there. A place to virtually shop.
I thought to myself, wow…that has to be interesting. So I got myself and account and logged in. I quickly figured out how customize my noobie with a cute homemade albeit slutty outfit.
After seeing some girls in a club with flexi hair, makeup, low riding jeans and thongs and of course the obligatory bling, I realized there was so much more to be had here.
I purchased myself some Lindens and embarked on the “Quest” as I like to call it. After entering in search “shop” and “fashion” and tp’ing all over the place, I was ready (semi-ready) to go out and meet and greet. I’ve met many great and not so great people here in SL. I love the fact that I have made friends globally and even though they may be on the other side of the world, we still have a lot in common. It makes me feel like the earth is not so big but in fact very small. I’ve always been interested in fashion and the fashion world in RL, so naturally I gravitated toward that in SL.
I soon fell in with the fashion community and refined my wardrobe and my look. After many purchases, I decided to start my visually based blog and show others what I had learned by trial and error and that you don’t have to dress like everyone else and could bring your own style in to play.
And yes, I met someone, fell in love and got divorced and it hurt. In the process I learned many of my friends had gone through the same thing. I was shocked to learn how prevalent and real relationships, both friends and otherwise are.
The SL fashion community offers many opportunities for those who are interested. Be it contests, modeling in fashion shows, writing or photography. One of the highlights of my time here was winning the Bud Select/Stuff Magazine’s Lingerie Legends competition.
It was there I met and became friends with Celebrity Trollop who had been reading my blog and decided to offer me a staff writing position at Second Style Magazine. My first monthly feature is in the October issue and I was very proud to be asked to participate in this endeavor with such talented writers.
My future in SL consists of growing as a writer and contributor to the SL fashion scene (Clothing line perhaps?) and continuing my many happy friendships in addition to adding others.
Some of my favorite memories are the voice talk converstions I had with my fellow Fashionistas at much anticipated Paper Couture Runway Show, hanging out with my friend, Marni Grut in various shops and at her store, Royal Blue, chatting, venting, trying on clothes and skins, and even the IM’s from strangers asking me where to find the best of this or that.
I don’t know where my SL journey will end up, but I’m sure it will be fun getting there.

it would be wonderful if we got a listing for where these models get their outfits. Similar to what they do in Most Fashion Magazines with their pictorials. This would help give us readers places to shop for the right look.

Cali – All of the lingerie I am wearing is from Insolence. Onstar – you are right about my eyes, not sure why they came out like that, but if you look at the photos in my blog you will see they don’t normally look like that. Oh well.

This girl is freaky-looking and seems to have an amazingly inflated sense of self-worth, in addition to being about as interesting and articulate as a large box of rocks. It’s a good thing she doesn’t know she’s a huge joke to a large part of the fashion community!

Where can you even begin commenting on this? What was once a neat and special and creative and edgy little weekly piece featuring interesting and unknown people has been transformed into a bland and boring showcase for overexposed self important avatars. I mean, what *is* the point here anyway? What is the focus of Post6 in the future going to be? I hope you’re happy Uri. Post6 is just a crappily run franchise of Second Syle magazine now. Really, who looks at those pictures and says “Yeah! that’s good enough to publish!” LOL. Is there any desire at all to put out a quality product anymore? Even Scarlett’s carbon-copy-of-every-other-SL-model looking avatar isnt done justice by this lowest common denominator of SL photography. Also, how many “SL fashionistas” must we endure anyway before we just stop bothering to look and post here? Don’t they all use the same GraCelbriScarlett shape at Second Style now anyway? Can’t you find somebody interesting? Last thing- Its boring now. Why no more nudity? It was always kind of sexy and fun to see and read about an unkown girl’s excitement to bare it all and be a Post6 Grrrl in their own words. I get the feeling these are pretty much “phoned in” now. We were much better off when we had pictures of whoever it was that Marilyn had the hots for that week. She definitely had a real appreciation for a good and interesting avatar.

Love looking at Post6 each week and seeing what the people will post. I just wonder why the people who post in the comment section don’t leave their SL Names…I would love to chat up with you inworld about interesting vs. uninteresting, bimbo vs. wholesome, Michael vs. Janet. I might even do it topless or naked if you were interesting, wholesome, and Micheal Jackson-ish enough. I have no problem with the negative comments…I love banter…I guess I’m one of the few who doesn’t take themselves seriously.
but why so toxic and cruel? Pfft…oh wells
Scarlett…kudos for you for putting yourself out there for scrutiny…you DO have a lovely AV…and more importantly are a great lady to know.

a good post six grrrrl/guy/bot should provoke strong reactions in both directions. Well, that’s my theory anyway.
Its also a good exercise to search on the old post sixers and see how much things have changed.

Scarlebriana, three smart fashionistas in one. You know, maybe these pictures weren’t the best ones of Scarlett, but she’s still one of the most stylish avatars in Second Life.

Scarlett has won so many model awards, but the fact is they *have* to be rigged. I mean look at her….she looks like a guy in drag! One of the most unappealing avatars in the game, and WAYYYYYYY overexposed.
Please go away, Scarlett

What changes are we exactly supposed to see??

marni:: “a classy lady wouldn’t post herself naked…etc.”
who appointed you the judge of what’s classy? you just trashed over 60 very classy ladies, who all had the courage to pose for this and somehow didn’t require your snobbish approval. kiss my high tight ass you stupid bitch.

You know what I find truly amazing about this is how negative people are. I’m sorry don’t you have something better to do then insult pixels? I guess writing nasty comments about a woman you don’t know takes top priority..you know compared to walking your dog or feeding your kids.
I love how eloquently people post their disgust. If you don’t like the people picked for this then I suggest you talk to the people running it, rather then insulting people.
I know Scarlett personally and she has an insanely gorgeous avatar. Yes, these aren’t the best pictures ever, however, there is no need to call her names.
This is probably one of the greatest facets of SL. Since it’s the “internets” people feel they can make comments such as “Michael Jackson in drag” (which by the way is quite orginal. I never even thought of it. Such a witty and thought provoking insult!)
Also to the person who said “It’s a good thing she doesn’t know she’s a huge joke to a large part of the fashion community”- If you knwo so much about the fashion world why don’t you say who and not hide behind a pseudonym and give your avi name. Oh that’s right you don’t have enough balls to do that. Just like you don’t have enough balls to post an rl pick. Because in actuallity you’re an ugly fuck from some shit town in the middle of no where america!
Scarlett don’t let these wankers get you down

Anyone who’s into “fashion” in SL IS a joke. I swear. Most of the stuff I see on “fashionable” people in SL is either tacky as fuck or about a decade too late. You guys have the internet…hell you LIVE on the internet! Look some shit up to see what’s going on outside of your basement once in a while!!
And you’re all hiding so shut the fuck up. It’s a video game, son!

Oh, and do you really find it a shock when she’s the winner of the Budweiser select contest when her bestest friend in the world, Celebrity Trollup is the main judge?
I heard qualified rumors that people at Avastar were completely shocked at the judges’ selection.

“who appointed you the judge of what’s classy? you just trashed over 60 very classy ladies, who all had the courage to pose for this and somehow didn’t require your snobbish approval. kiss my high tight ass you stupid bitch.”
Haha rock on, Marilyn.
“Scarlett has won so many model awards, but the fact is they *have* to be rigged. I mean look at her….she looks like a guy in drag! One of the most unappealing avatars in the game, and WAYYYYYYY overexposed.”
From what i’ve seen of model awards, and other similar “prettiest/best/most beautiful avatar in SL” awards, is that only one type of person shows up to them, and that they always seem to come down to either a.) a popularity contest and/or bribing/begging/pleading/bartering/campaigning/whatever to get as many votes as you can from people who otherwise wouldn’t care (I remember during 12avatars, I would walk around and occassionally get IMs from strangers asking me to vote for them), or b.) being friends with the judges, or the aforementioned bribing/begging/pleading/etc. to the judges.
“Anyone who’s into “fashion” in SL IS a joke. I swear. Most of the stuff I see on “fashionable” people in SL is either tacky as fuck or about a decade too late. I agree, and I say that as a person who makes clothes in SL. The Fashion industry in and out of SL is ridiculous, it’s just like “This is pretty” “no it isn’t, that’s kinda ugly”, “no it’s pretty. Look all the cool people are wearing it, you want to be cool don’t you?” “Oh! It is pretty! How much?” “20,000 dollars.” Just the idea of people needing to know “the latest trends”, so they can happily conform to what all the “cool” people are wearing, what ever happened to being yourself and making your own style?
In terms of Scarlett, I don’t think she’s ugly persay, just uninteresting, nothing to separate her from the blonde, white, model pack. But then, that’s my opinion on interesting, I guess there’s still a lot of people who find that generic look appealing.

Wow..when I agreed to do this I had no idea it would generate this much feedback! I agree that these are not the best photos and in some I do look tranny and the lighting is off. All in fun and next week it will be someone elses turn.
Observer – from the bitterness and depth of feeling in your post I can only assume we must have been slightly involved at one point. I’m sorry your angry, but I did what I thought was right. To clear up a few facts you posted – I met Celebrity after the contest was over. The first time I spoke to her ever was when she came up on stage after to take photos with me. As far as the AvaStar statement, the Editor, Regis Braathens, contact me and asked me to be on the cover and to do a centerfold. If they were so disappointed I won, why would they do that?
How I spend my time in SL and what I do should not matter to anyone but me. SL is a game and I’ve never thought it was anything more than that.

Where did I say they were disappointed? I said they were shocked. There is a difference, and they did have an agreement to put the winner on the cover. They were doing what they said they would do.
No, we were not involved at all. Sorry.

Observer**Please note the dates for this chat. The winner was offically announced on 8/30/2007. I have no problem with you expressing your personal opinions but if this is the opinion of one of friends who works for The AvaStar, please tell him/her to take it up with their boss as it was his decision and not any agreement as you can see clearly stated below.
[2007/08/20 5:35] Regis Braathens: (Saved Mon Aug 20 06:58:00 2007) Hey Scarlett, not sure if this will get through as after thousands of fan IMs your inbox must be capped! But congrats on what looks like a certain victory to you! I’d like to do a pull-out poster with you on it in the avastar this week – and i’ve asked Scarlet Singer (great photographer) to take the photos. Should be really cool and get you some nice publicity! When will you have time to do that the next couple of days? Perhaps you could drop an IM to scarlet as well, so she can coordinate with you. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out – should be great! We’ll stick you on the cover as well most probably! Take care, Regis
[2007/08/23 9:54] Scarlett Niven: Hello Regis…I want to hold off on doing the spread because there are issues with the voting with the contest and they have not announced a winner yet.
[2007/08/23 9:54] Second Life: User not online – message will be stored and delivered later.
[2007/08/23 10:25] Regis Braathens: Hi Scarlett, OK that’s a shame. But we can do it next week then.
[2007/08/23 10:26] Regis Braathens: Have to start re-jigging the front page now!
[2007/08/23 10:26] Scarlett Niven: Yes…if I’m the winner that is..:-D
[2007/08/23 10:26] Regis Braathens: haha
[2007/08/23 10:26] Scarlett Niven: eek…

@Wankette: Call me crazy but I like meat on a girl’s bones. Since this is under the guise of “fashion” is she supposed to have the body of a 12 year old boy like most of the heroin addicts I mean “fashion” models out there?
Women need to start looking like women again and not like pale preying matises!
Fashionismo is a waste of resources. Fashionistas are wastes of skin…not flesh though, apparently
