Evolution

by Kris Dibou, warrior poet/pirate

I sleep by the luminous light
Of my laptop, left on all night;
As closer I drift towards the place
Of digital time, life and space.

Evolution’s next step for man?
The digital body’s at hand!
When at last we move without keys;
No sickness, death nor disease.

Are not our streets paved with gold
Like in the stories of old?
Will we have eternal life,
Immune to the rifle and knife?

When the last display fades to black
With no one to power it back;
Will we find a way to survive
and keep our ‘bodies’ alive?

Perhaps it’s your state of mind;
Pixels and skin cells, I find
Are not needed eventually,
Just what your mind’s eye will see.

And so with a beep I wake up;
I fumble around for my cup,
And merge once again with my screen
To become what I once might have been.

    RL population – around 5,000, 000 000

    SL population around 50,000

    so approx 1 ‘have’ to every 100,000 ‘have nots’ whose streets are not paved with gold

    Given the state of the world where muslim fanatics have even started suicide bombing mosquesduring Eid
    and millions die in poverty as America ignores global warming regardless of whether its natural or not

    a poem about the ‘lucky few’ being ‘more evolved’ than the lesser mortals and walking golden pavements, -
    that could easily be classed as obscene

    The population of earth is actually closer to 6,500,000,000 (that’s 6.5 billion).

    suckonthis-

    It si clear that it is peotry

    Should poetry have a special ‘protected from criticism/analysis’ status compared with other forms of communication ?

    I knew the figure was closer to 6.5 – but I chose 5 to make the calculation easier – as it was not that important in the context

    and the concurrency population of SL may be 50k, but the daily population you get by multiplying 50k by 24, then divide by however many hours people spend on average inworld. So, say average time inworld is 4 hours daily, then 50k x 6 = 300,000 per day.

    Corona, someone who criticizes poetry should be literate enough to spell properly and write grammatically correct sentences. Otherwise you’re just a yahoo with a big mouth.
