The Wurkin’ Girls of Little Paradise

Pre-teen girls modeling for L$25/hour – plus tips – say SL needs “more wadies who wanna dopt widdle ones”
by Pixeleen Mistral, National Affairs desk
Tabitha and Yoshiko twirl in place live modeling clothes — Sonja0606 Eichel disrobes and is ejected from Little Paradise
Recently, I visited the Little Paradise sim – and discovered a shocking example of child-avatar labor exploitation in the metaverse.
Homeless orphan girls – some as young as 5 – are forced to work grueling 10 hour shifts for L$25/hour (about $1 USD/day). These struggling child residents of our world, our imagination somehow scrape by without child labor laws to protect them, earning their L$s by being “Live Models” of children’s clothes. To some, their lot in life might seem grim — parents missing or offline as they spend most of their days being slowly rotated in place to show off the flexi-prim skirts.
Looking on the bright side, the girls do get to baby talk to anyone who stops by the store, and there is always the possibility of a tip – though it is probably best not to inquire too closely about how a live model of kids clothes in SL might earn a tip.
Pixeleen Mistral: do they pay you to be a live model?
Tabitha Dominquez: yes
Pixeleen Mistral: good – it looks a little boring otherwise
Tabitha Dominquez: neber borings
Pixeleen Mistral: no? but you just twirl in place

Many things wrong with this place , focusing on 2:
A) These men at the keyboard posing as cute little girls apparantly think all 5 yr old girls have speech impediments.
B) Sexualizing your fibe..er, excuse me “five” year old girl avatar with tight fitting t-shirts,padded bras and mini-skirts is truly disturbing. Trashy is not cute.
I have no problem with adults that pretend to be kids on SL. I have a problem with the child avatars dressing like sluts and being annoying. Why dress in a manner that attracts the attention of pedophiles?

I don’t get it. What is it with the pretend baby talk? It isn’t even really how young children talk, as I recall. Why would you want to “play” an avatar that talks like that? I would have to stop and translate everything in my head first, before I could speak, because that is certainly not how most adults naturally and instinctively speak. I had a hard enough time just figuring out what these girls were actually saying. And these are adults, not children. Linden has made that policy very clear.
I’m not criticizing; just trying to understand.

Wow what fascinating lives they must lead. Getting paid one US dollar for sitting on their arse being bored all day. Losers. Also the whole child avatar thing is on the creepy side. In real life they’re probably nasty old men living out some weird loli fantasy. Garbage.

I don’t hate child avatars because I suspect they’re all secret pedophiles. I hate child avatars because they insist on using that cutesy wootsey baby talk. Do they even know any children? No kid over the age of 4 talks like that!

I feel ill. Physically ill. It may just be the childspeak…
Yes, I KNOW it’s an adult roleplay choice, it’s not (always) about paedophilia. But it still makes my skin crawl.

Little Paradise does a great job at making a PG safe zone. I’m always so impressed with how professional the owners are with keeping it a PG safe zone like so many other Second Life PG child avi stores. It’s nice to see that even if the tongue in cheek article banters about the model it still shows the true heart of the store with keeping it a safe zone free from nudity violence and any adult themes. The atmosphere there is friendly and aprochable and SAFE and most of all PG. It’s nice to see someone show there still are places in SL you can go and enjoy a PG version of the game.

Ok so because we want to let our inner child out (everyone had an inner child even you) we are perverts. I am a child because i do not want sex … this store is a great place for ppl who want to let their inner child out with out having to deal with all the adult perverts. you call us who have nothing to do with sex on sl perverts when all u adults are using sex poseballs and pretending to be pregnant an having babies that are prims. that pretend to be married, that pretend to have sex or wait sorry you are behind the computer masterbating, who is the perv? all u that are calling us SL kids pervs are the true pervs. think of it we want an innocent childhood, most of us didnt have childhoods cuz of pervs like u all. leave us alone. go do your perverted adult acts, and let us be the innocent children that we want to be. we are not stopping you from doing your grose perverted stuff. we are not invading your dungeons and whore houses, we are just having fun as innocent children.

What in the world is this all about. Did anyone check this out before printing it? What a bunch of lies. This place is the best and safest in SL. I take my child avi here to buy her stuff and roleplay all the time. I know the owners, they are great people and totally honest and dedicated to making their sim kid safe. Someone should get into trouble for writing this griefing, untrue and idiotic stuff.

I think this store being attacked is a mockery of good writing. Yes some kids take the “babytalk” to extreme, but it is their game let them be!. I play a kid avatar and it involves no sex, no raunchy clothes. It is a way for me to just be playful and silly again in a world that forces me to grow up. In my real life I do work with children, and in no way is there any abuse to any of them, or any inappropriate thoughts. And really what is this article about? Are you wanting to make it impossible for child av’s to get jobs in sl? I mean come on child labor laws? How many adults would you see modeling those outfits? And for the record no I am an adult, but not old or a man.

I am an adult male who chooses to roll play in SL as a toddler avatar. I have been adopted by an amazing SL family, and have two SL sisters. I participate in a number of activities including SL scouting, school, and others. In RL I work as a registered nurse supervisor and am happily married with 4 children of my own. To stereotype most child avatars as pedophiles is ignorance at its best. In SL it is very easy to rush judgment when we pull ideals out of context. The article above seemed to have an agenda with little balance.
My SL adoptive parent has run a FREE scouting program for over 2 years aimed at the SL child avie. She spends hours of her free time and has spent hundreds of her own dollars to maintain the land. Why does she do it? Because it is fun! For others it might be fun being a dinosaur, being a wizard, being an attractive female, secret agent, dark warrior, etc. Yet, she has zero tolerance for inappropriate dress, unacceptable language or behavior and does not hesitate to ban. Fortunately it does not happen that often. Actually, I have seen her expel more adult avies due to their disrespect to the rules in a PG sim.
I am also a model for Just 4 Kids. I am very grateful for Zoe, Paige, & Becca the owners of Just 4 Kids. They have provided an outstanding service. I have made 1000’s of L$ because of the modeling. I am proud to work for a business that is willing to give back to the kids. You see it’s more than just having an adult sit on a bench with the sole reason of increasing traffic.

It’s kind of sad that you can write a tongue in cheek article about perfectly innocent child avies and still get the exact same child-avie-hate responses as if it were the revelation of Jailbait.

This highlights the flaw with the arguement that paedophiles can practice grooming RL children for abuse
where children are played by adults the only thing that Paedophiles can learn in SL is how to groom RL adults who are playing at being children in RL
not RL children, who most likely would be trying to be as adult as their experience allows
paedophiles are merely rapists who are just not ‘man’ enough to risk attempting it with adult women
eg the PN greifers who think it amusing to rape 5 year old year girls in RL
But roleplaying little girls dressing up is not paedophilia or rape – whatever else it might be

I thought that all child role play was banned in SL? I certainly feel it ought to be banned regardless of the sex or age of the person behind the avatar.
Yes i accept in the comfort of your own home and relationship you can do as you wish in role play and dress and act as you wish. However creating a childs avatar is encouraging paedophilia whether intentional or not.
By all means dress your adult avatar in childs clothing and talk like a child (if you can actually call it that) but an avatar made to look like a child is entirely different.

Ive been in Sl for almost three years now. Never heard of your paper till this article. I will say this I think your paper is idiotic if you employee and run articles such as these and will never purchase your paper or return to your sim again. Ignorance and Stupidity should not be place in papers and your article was nothing but ignorance and stupidity.

I guess I’m with A Nony Mous on this one. If folks want to pretend to be kids and use pseudo-kidspeak I suppose I’d be a bit of a killjoy to spoil their fun. But please, stay out of mature areas, clubs, and bars, where I want to meet adults and do adult things. As long as “kids” stay in “kid places,” I’ll be a tolerant liberal. But like Artemis Fate said, expect to be punted or orbited if you come within 10 feet of me in an “adult” situation playing the brat

My 5 year old nephew is one of the more creative and stimulating individuals I’ve had the pleasure to know, and I have to say I find the cartoonish speech of the above ‘model’ to be pretty annoying and unrealistic.
So, I guess I have to wonder, what’s the motivation for choosing a child avatar? I’ll give some the benefit of the doubt, I guess, the whole ‘reliving your childhood’ thing. Why not? If we’re going to accept that some SLifers are living out their vampire or furry fantasies, I can buy into the whole child thing (to a point).
However, I find it hard to believe that the hole in your childhood was left by an unresolved need to be an minor ‘model’ with a speech impediment that leaves you talking like Elmer Fudd on a bender.
Any of you kiddies care to elaborate?

Ok I got a few things to say about this.
1st. Little paradise doesnt do anything wrong, they provide a job for children wich in PG (its not like they can go strip in clubs)!
2nd. About the childish talk, it so happens there are some people who like that talk. I’m a mother in sl of 5 children and I never adopt a child that doesnt talk like that cause I simply adore the childish talk.

How is modeling on a pose stand for 10 hours any different from sitting in a camping chair for 10 hours? The pay is better and they get a free outfit IN A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT. To who suggested padded bras & tight fitting clothes.. it’s called limitations to the clothing and shape. No padded bras and no tighter fitting clothing than PG rated any grownup clothes. To who suggested no one over 4 talks like that.. thank you for insulting my daughter who just turned 6 and all of her kindergarten classmates. To who suggested that all SL kids are perves? YOU are the sicko. Pixeleen.. you might want to remember this is SL no one is withholding food if they don’t mode the clothes. Get real.

I read this article and the responses and it makes me sick to my stomach that you people would offer such a pervertedly twisted view on the subject. Padded bras? umm No it’s called SL limitation on the body shapes tight fitting clothes? Again mostly sl limitation but the outfits the kids wear are precious and only some sick twisted mind would think otherwise. As the rl mother of 3 children as well as babysitter of countless others I can confirm that many 4 and 5 year olds speak that way in rl. I’d appreciate it if you and countless others would stop turning what can be an enjoyable sl family experience into something twisted and sordid. BTW no one forces those kids to model obviously if they didn’t want to they wouldn’t be there. they do it for the lindens, the free outfits, and out of a genuine desire to help others. There’s nothing wrong with that.

First a few facts…
1. I play a child Av in SL, I AM FEMALE past the age of 30.
2. I HAVE 2 children in RL ages 11 and 3.
3. My *baby talk* is exactly as my 3yr old talks right down to the correct pronunciation.
4. Most of the child avs I’ve come across do in fact represent the proper age speak dialect.
5. Many Child Avs are played by parents who. A. Lost a young child to violence, disease, or miscarriage. B. Can never have children of their own due to their own health issues. C. Has a son or daughter currently serving in Iraq who happens to be their ONLY child. Or D. Merely want to relive their childhood in a way they never had a chance to in RL.
Accusations that child avs are merely played by MEN or predators are greatly exaggerated.
Finally I’m no MALE, no predator. I am a mother of 2 adorable children who enjoy listening to me imitate them. Child avs in SL are well over the legal working age…

Calling this behavior from adults disturbing is putting it politely. Why is it some adults feel the need to bring children into an adult grid? For any purpose? Does anyone monitor the IM’s in that sim to make sure everything is really PG? Anyone want to bet how PG it really is?

J4kk Owner
Mar 20th, 2008
I am one of the owners of J4KK. I can vouch for the fact that we keep our sim a PG sim. As was evident by Zoe evicting the woman who showed up there. People play SL for different reasons. I chose to play the child Avi because I am disabled in RL. I have been disabled my entire life. I never got a chance to do alot of things I can do in SL. All of them innocent and childlike. I’ve made countless friends who are there for similar reasons. All of whom don’t tolerate anything adult around them. Our clothes are not “Mini skirts and tight shirts” Take a look yourself if you want we have nothing whatsoever to hide.
I am proud to own J4KK. I don’t hide it. My own RL family knows about the store and supports my descion. They know me they know I’m not some perv and they know the life I’ve lead. Second life can be whatever you make of it. And many of us chose to live as child avi’s not out of some sexual need but out of a desire to AVOID the sexual side of SL.
Feel free to come see for yourself. Just keep in mind this is a PG zone and we enforce it. And the lindens have never banned child avi’s only sexual ageplay. And the majority of the child avi world supported them wholeheartedly. The small minority tainted it for the rest in many eyes. In fact At last years easter egg hunt a linden came to look for eggs at our store.
Many of us play SL’s like the sims. With tight knit family groups. Not for the dark side.

I think child avatars are a good thing. You took what Tabitha and Yoshi said way out of line. I personally know Tabitha and know she isn’t into any of that stuff. I also know Yoshi. You need to watch what you say because making such a statment like that is not right. How can you judge how someone wants to play the game, you can’t so stop doing it.

My followup :
I truly believe there are MANY SL ‘children’ who are behaving appropriately and find an escape in their child avies. No doubt there are some very therapeautic benefits to roleplaying (people, stop spelling it “rollplaying”) a child in SL. Despite how my first comment sounds at the top, I am actually very tolerant of people. I can respect a RL woman who for various reasons cannot have a child or has lost their child to try and create an SL family. I can respect a man who honestly loves being a father and likes to extend that into a virtual world. The concept of families in SL is absolutley intiguing if these families “behave”.
However, everybody in SL knows first-hand that there are some depraved places and sick bastards in SL. When I was new to SL, I found myself exploring without discretion and was amazed at the places I saw. The common theme in these places is deviant sex with anything and everyone…or pictures of it. We all are aware of these places and people; we all know LL banned ageplay; we saw the stories of sims allowing child avies to have sex with adult avies, so therefore we all are hyper-sensitive as we should be. We “lump” all the child avies into that depraved category because we ‘assume’ the only purpose for a child avie is for scum.
I apologize to any child avie I have offended who A)Does not dress like a slut B)Does not intentionally annoy the rest of us. To all the “clean” kids: remember that SL is for adults and how you dress and act DOES have an impact on how we perceive you. If you are offended by all these comments, continue to educate us with more valid reasons to have a child avie.
:(
Mar 20th, 2008
Geez, reading these comments all I can think is “What a bunch of idiots.”
To those defending the child avs: This is the Herald. 90% of the articles here are poking fun at something, or written specifically to attract attention and cause drama. You children avs weren’t interviewed to clear up misconceptions, you were interviewed for shock value.
To those against the child avs: saying all child avs are old pedophile men… you know that making sweeping generalizations like this make you look really ignorant, don’t you? Someone above said that child avatars should be banned whether they are pedos or not, simply because they encourage pedophilia.
By that logic you would have to ban nearly everyone! Ban everyone who gets paid for cybersex, ban everyone who roleplays a criminal.. Holy hell, all of you need to grow up and use your brains. Would it really hurt you to try and understand the other person’s point of view before you spew your uneducated nonsense?

Ok folks hold on here… DO you know why kids play kids so they dont have to deal with idiots like you maybe you should try it. Your callin them pedafiles. I am the Zoe pictured and quoted in this article, I am one of the owners of J4KK, and proud to be so. Where pixileen can come in and watch me eject and ban a naked Adult av from the sim, once again enforcing the PG guildlines and rules of our sim, To there just must be something perverted going on, is very sad. That article PROVES that we do not tolerate adult behavior of any kind. There is no warning, you are simply banned, the warning is when you tp into that zone, and you see the huge rule sign and the PG at the top of your screen. That is your only warning. The skirts pictured had, the person bothered to take a good picture would show that they are just above the knee, how in the world is that a mini skirt? Shirts are not made tight fitting, as someone else said you are limited to the body shape and type of shirt you can make. I would love for that to be fixed, believe me. To the line of how the models make tips…. well I have never said they could or could not get tips, if someone chooses to do so then fine, they are there making money. However if we were find out that someone is using that in an inappropriate way to do so,they would be fired and banned on the spot and also reported, and each and every one of them are told that before and after they are hired. No we do not have a way to monitor IMs, It is everyone who comes to that store, responsibility if something innappropriate happens to report them to us and to the Lindens. As the other store owner at the top said, any one is welcome to come see the sim for yourself, the clothes we sell, the other items. We have nothing to hide. And no I am not a man, if I am then my rl friends and family, and the dr who gave birth to me needs to be checked out lol.
Yes there are some who play child avis here who do the things some of you are accussing us of doing. We hate that just as much as you do, that is why we work hard every single day to keep it away from us and our sim, that is why as soon as we see something like that we report them instantly. Child avis should not have to constantly explain themselves just as the person playing in a dungeon, playing a neko, a dog, a adult man or woman, a mom, a dad, ect. ect. ect. ect. The fact is that this is second life, you get to live this life exactly how you want it. I can guarantee that my child avi,is never anywhere near adult sims or situations, if I happen to come across something I leave, its that simple. We do not come harrass anyone who wants to rp adult things, things that we might find creepy, things that make our skin crawl, things that are for sure illegal in real life. We do however stay away from it. Those that do not should i agree with that. But is not my place to harrass them and call them names just because i do not like it. If it breaks LL policy and tos i report them and move on. I have lots of fun in SL, I adore the family I have here, I adore the friends I have here. I am very much getting to live out a childhood here that for reasons I won’t share was not able to share in real life.
To those of you who are supporting us and telling what J4KK is really all about, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, we truely appricate that, It means so much to us. <3 ,<3

“I thought that all child role play was banned in SL?”
eh Not so – ‘sexual age play’ is banned
mere ‘age play’ is not – there is a difference
Re
“However creating a childs avatar is encouraging paedophilia whether intentional or not.”
how so? – it could equally be argued that creating a female avatar is encouraging rape whether intentional or not
their world their imagination – provided it does not break the ‘no [sexual] age play’ ruling – what harm is there? – if it disturbs you – dont visit the sim
there is plenty in SL which is far more disturbing than little girls dressing up
one thing that is more disturbing is the self righteuos moral police- a slippery path to the mutaween

Observation from a neutral party:
-those against or not positive on child AV’s ask WHY someone would play child AV
-Child av players EXPLAIN WHY someone would play child AV
-those against or not positive on child AV”s ask WHY someone would play child AV, and suggest they MUST be doing it for something horrible and sordid
Why ask a question you dont want to hear an answer to?
Is it that some people cant read?
Personally, I think it is because they do not WANT to know why someone would really play a child AV. But I’m just guessing here.
Then, another thing… By now, child AV’s all over the grid, must have realized what kind of newspaper this is. There’s more flaming going on here then the average gaybar in San Francisco. Why bother with the negative commenters at all?
Unless you find such entertainment of course, I always do
Lastly…. I heard someone in the comments above ask about LL policy.
No, ageplay is not against TOS.
