The Second Life Ballet Company – now renamed Ballet Pixelle – presents renowned Japanese singer/songwriter, Solary Clary (Sora Izumikawa in RL) singing to accompany her orchestral score at the Sunday, September 28, 2008 performance of Ballet Pixelle’s current production “Shuzenji”. Curtain time is 7 a.m. SLT. This promises to be the cultural event of the weekend – although the timing may pose challenges for the North American audience. The SL players in Asia and Europe however should be pleased – the performance of “Shuzenji” is scheduled for evening attendance by audience members in Asia and afternoon in Europe.
According to Inarra Saarinen, the Company’s founder and artistic director, “one of the joys of dancing in a digital world that literally spans the globe is that everyone can come to the ballet. The problem is, of course, when it is evening in Second Life official time, Asia is just waking up and Europe is going to bed. We have dedicated fans who come to see us perform no matter what the time is where they live, but Ballet Pixelle does shift our schedule sometimes so they don’t have to shift theirs all the time.”
Ballet Pixelle says “Shuzeni” is their most complex ballet to date. The story is set in the Edo era of 18th century Japan with two lovers, Sakura and Tokai separated from each other when Tokai is murdered at the shrine of Shuzenji by jealous Oirans, or courtesans. However, the faithful Sakura continues to search for Tokai at the shrine, and because of her enduring love, Tokai’s spirit is freed. In the third act, with soaring, ringing music that raises the spirits Solary Clary’s lyrics promise, “I have no regrets. My life with you is forever hand in hand. Let us dance with this music forever.”
See what promises to be a moving and beautiful ballet at a time when the peak user concurrency should have limited impact on a special live singing performance Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 7 a.m. SLT — Ballet Pixelle Theater, IBM 10 (12, 191,210)
Regular performances are Sundays at 5 p.m. SLT (USA Pacific time)
