Seikatsu Koba — Post 6 Grrrl

[Whenever the thumbnail with the blue-haired head shows up on Flickr, you can be sure that another high-quality image has been posted. Plain and simple, that's the language Seikatsu Koba's pictures speak. She is highly creative and her work is widely respected without her taking part in the daily popularity contest that seems to be going on in the SL arts community. I felt honored when Seikatsu showed her interest in becoming a Post Grrrl and enjoyed our photo shoot in lag-hell Tempura Island to the max. – Bunny Brickworks]

Hello World,

I first came to know about Post 6 because an ex-friend of mine had his ass featured here. I was really curious about it, so I began reading about the guys and grrrls that have been featured, and after two or three of the posts, I decided that I wanted to expose my ass too; just for the heck of it.

I learned about Second Life a whole year before I actually joined. I read about it in business magazines, but what was most interesting to me was that there were many articles also featured in computer gaming magazines. On day I decided to check it out. I was very biased though, in the business magazines some people reported how it had changed their life for the better, and others how it had actually damaged or destroyed it. When I signed up, I kept telling myself that no one really gets to live a second life, so my name, Seikatsu Koba, means a life that is a lie.

When I started SL, I was surprised at how often I got hit on even with my generic avatar. I got scared (I’m over it now), and in an attempt to get away, I found the Fly button. The Fly button came to play an important role in my second life because for the first three months all I did was fly and be fascinated by what computer graphics and computer animation can do. This was way better than the computer games I had played. In my travels through Second Life, I started taking pictures from an aerial view. I had made a friend or two, and they help me lose my fear to the SL grounds, so when I finally landed, I decided to continue photography from there. In order to improve my photography, I decided to get some props; I first used freebies, but soon decided to get a job, so I could buy better props and build a studio.

My first paying job in SL (June of 2007), and which I still have for a year and two months now, was as a teacher of English as a Second Language. In September of last year, I decided to make my photography work public. In January this year, and for about seven months, I worked as an English/Spanish translator. I also publish a magazine called Tatuaje (Spanish word for tattoo); the magazine is free, so if you see it in-world grab a copy. Now all that is serious work, but trust me when I tell you that I am very flexible, and have learned to have fun in SL. Heck! I even fell in love, got heart broken (notice the ex-friend above), got myself put back together again, and I’m still going. I think I have gone through the full cycle of SL life.

I now know that we do get to live a second life, but that for me it became a lie when I tried to make myself believe that my Second Life was going to save me from the troubles in my first life.

Hi Seikatsu, It’s nice to hear of your successes and you have my sympathy for your misfortunes.
Still, my opinion is that in RL and SL when you stop learning and discovering new things (even the bad ones) you’re not living.

You just slapped a blue wig on last week’s Post 6, didn’t you?

Would like to thank “Peanut Butter Monkey Sluts” for the totally backhanded compliment. (You may have intended it as an insult but… sad to inform, FAIL!) Thanks again. *grins happily and goes off in search of blue hair*

One of the joys of Second Life has been meeting people like Seikatsu Koba. She is intelligent, passionate, artistic, clever, empathic, & tasteful (hence the avatar;P). I wish you nothing but fun and love, Sei — Paige
