Lunar Raid’s Video Metaplace World Reviews

Pirates, ponies, and frogger-style roadkill can be seen at the Metaplace Insider, where Lunar Raid has just released his second video MP world review – more examples of the sorts of worlds that can be created in Metaplace and run on standard web browsers. After an intense negotiating session, with promises of Internet fame and possible spacebux, Lunar agreed to allow to Herald to republish his work going forward.

Lunar's newest video sails into the High Seas world with a stereotypical pirate accent, a hat tip to the ponies in PonyPlace, a bloody battle which causes Zetaphor’s ship to sink, a mercy killing of Zetaphor's drowning sailors before the sharks could get them, all pulled together with Lunar's best pirate hat.

An earlier MP Insider World Review covers Zoo Escape  – where the challenge is to cross the road or become roadkill.

If these worlds represent what can be built on Metaplace before the tools are done, is there any question why Google pulled the plug on it's lame virtual world Lively?

The High Seas one reminds me a bit of the siege guild system in SL

This makes Metaplace look much more relevant to my interests. I wouldn’t mind seeing how well I could remake games like Diablo and Dune 2

Perhaps Metaplace could connect with OnLive.com and be the first MMO supported through that platform. Not only would it allow access through entry level computers or even TVs with a micro controller but it would allow a more robust capability in terms of providing a 3D graphical environment server side. See the article at http://www.examiner.com/x-5942-Oklahoma-City-MMORPG-Examiner~y2009m3d24-OnLive-and-its-MMO-possible-impact and check out their demos.

Raph, the president of Metaplace, was the lead designer for both Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies. With those credentials, I am certain the MP will be a stunning success. Philip Linden just sorta popped up out of nowhere and decided to make a virtual world. Not so here.

I’m not sure if they have plans to work with OnLive in any way but Raph is apparently aware of it’s existence, as you can see on his blog here:

These videos are stunning examples of what can be done in MP. MPInsider is a good site. That was where I found my invite key so I didn’t have to wait for weeks.

Speaking of which, if anyone else needs an invite key they should be able to use the one there, or you could simply contact someone who is already on the inside to send you an invite. I’ll send one to anyone who asks personally, if need be.

You know, I was renovating hell last night when god (a player named god, not Raph, the game god) came in to speak with me. I had no idea that choosing the name Satan for lols would result in such a chain reaction of funny mishaps. I still laugh out loud every single time someone says a sentence with the name Satan in it in reference to me.

On another note, either Prok has died or MP has held her interest too because she hasn’t made another blog post since 3/25. Usually she’s turning out at least ten pages a day. Perhaps MP will keep her quiet. Not likely though.

Meh, I spoke too soon. Prok blogged yesterday. That had to be a record though.

Hey Prok! I bet you can’t do it again! lols.
