Second Life Grid Support Outsourced to ComSys?

A new clan sharing the Comsys brand last name have joined the pantheon of game gods. I personally witnessed a divine double sighting in Second Life earlier this evening. Based on both job postings and avatar profiles, it appears that Comsys is taking over first tier support from Linden staff. Could this be a cost cutting measure by the Lab? There does seem to have been some significant departures from the Lab of late.
My first encounter with the strong, but silent men of Comsys came while researching a story on the mysterious Pulseburst Flow. While cataloging Mr. Flows' land holdings, I noticed a pair of avatars near Mr. Flows' Gumtree sim — a sim that had crashed and stayed down for at least 30 minutes.
No Linden staff were present, but Comsys had come to the rescue – although noobie PedroP Comsys seemed a bit preoccupied with something on the ground. The confident demeanor ChrisJ projected was reassuring, but I wondered why Pedro was wearing long black latex rubber gloves – had there been a problem in Furnation recently?
PedroP looks for answers on the ground — why is he wearing block rubber gloves?
Neither of the contractors responded when I asked what was going on – either they want to avoid publicity or were grappling with a subtle problem in the Lab's new network.
Eventually Gumtree came back online and ChrisJ and PedroP Comsys flew across the sim together in celebration, then disappeared.
Now that the Lab has moved to contractors for first tier support, it will be interesting to see how far the trend will go – and what powers beyond restoring crashed sims have been granted to Comsys staff.
What else is M Linden going to outsource?

Sounds like a great way to get into god powers via a back door so as to then fuck with people you compete with in SL.

The sky is really not falling here. The Comsys guys are contractors, yes, but they’re good guys, they are working closely with support and system engineers from Linden, the Linden who is their manager/liaison is really solid. I was dubious when I found out that the DNOC was going to be contracted out, but seeing how it’s going, and having met and talked to the guys that they’ve hired, I think that things are going to work out just fine. The Comsys folks are very solid.

You ask “why is he wearing block (sic) rubber gloves?”
Most likely it was simply a bug.
He was probably wearing a black t-shirt.
