Beautifully Sinister — Post 6 Grrrl

by Alphaville Herald on 14/07/09 at 6:00 am

[I think that Beautifully Sinister is the first Post 6 Model I've featured that I knew from before my days at the Alphaville Herald. To head off any cries of cronyism here at the Post 6 Desk, let me explain that Ms. Sinister designs hip versions of Gorean and Medieval clothing that I discovered when I was a blogger, and I made it a point to tell her that her clothes rank among my faves. I'm sure she friended me just to shut me up. When I was shopping in her store a few weeks ago, I again ran into her, struck up a conversation about my new digs at the Herald and then begged her to pose for us. I think it's an honor to have her here, and I think you'll agree she's beautiful and talented and I really hope I've done her justice. Timothy Morpork]

Welcome to my world, or at least my little corner of it! I’ve always had a love for beauty and art, especially when it comes to avatars and online games. Second Life was no different for me when I started, though like every other person, I went through the noob phase. Gladly, my friends who’d suggested the game to me were there to keep me from looking too horribly, though by no means did I look half as nice as I think I do now.

I, too, went through the max-butt, max-boobs, tiny waist stage……and it wasn’t pretty at all. When I latched on to building, I went through the block furniture, the not- so- flexi triangle shaped skirt, oddly done fountains, and beyond. I’ve seen a lot happen to change SL and its always a struggle to keep up with what’s hot and what’s not. After growing in building skill (many, many nights spent cursing and slamming my keyboard and swearing off SL) and establishing myself as a designer I find it’s twice as hard to keep up with that pressure.

Beautifully Sinister FINAL2

My store, Ripped, though medieval and gorean, has to keep up with the fashion crazes just as well as any. What does medieval have to do with modern, right? I discovered that modern fashions apply themselves in a medieval style creating new trends just as often as they do in the real world. Being the spokes-person, the main model, the owner and head designer for my store forced me to learn more about fashion and at the same time taught me that I actually had my own flair and style and preferences. While I’m not savvy on the best of the best and the newest of the new, I manage to keep afloat with some of the more unique trends and styles that become available in Second Life.

Beautifully Sinister_Final3

And while I’m high fashion in Second Life, I’m quite comfy with my jammies in real life and I’ve worn heels fewer times than I can count on fingers and toes. So if one us is a socialite; a beautiful, sensual, talented creature, I’d have to say it would be my avatar. To date, I spend my time teaching others to build, learning more about photoshop (my neverending nemesis), teaching people about Gor and the roles within it that people can experience through roleplay. Of course, while a lot of my time is spent designing and building, I find that there is always time to break away to help out a good cause, like Relay for Life, or other education and modeling centers that need help teaching models to fit clothing and adjust them to look better, or just simply spend time exploring or hanging out with friends. Every day there is more to learn and more to do, second life grows and changes and with it our experiences. Friends come and go, partners join and break apart, there are no rights or wrongs in this game. Just remember to be true to yourself, explore and enjoy your second life.

I haven’t logged in to SL for months, but I do check this website every now and again. One of the main reasons I don’t log on is because…

“I find that there is always time to break away to help out a good cause……..or other education and modeling centers that need help teaching models to fit clothing and adjust them to look better”

….the people in SL are for the most part utterly idiotic and wasteful with their lives.

On your deathbed you will be able to look back on your life and say “I helped to teach ‘modeling’ [lmao] in a social computer game”. And don’t pretend you only do this for an hour a day, you more than likely spend huge swathes of your time in SL.

    Pathetic. The majority of you.

Well put, well said, completely true and totally (NOT) unbelievable.
The hours flushed down the toilet by these guys are hours of “distraction” from that real “stuff” of life – usually problems or deficits that need to be numb’d down or helped in being pushed out of the way and out of the mind. It’s no different than alcoholism in terms of its structural disease characteristics.

It is pathetic. And the problem is most know this to be true but still do it anyways…it’s the self inflicted “con” factor.

I really like the death-bed reference btw, it’s a good point of perspective for sure.

Hopefully, at least (1) SL user will see your message and make a change for the better.

The best one could do to help noobs is warn them about the odious nature of Gor and the idiot people there that find even the hint of slavery the least bit amusing. If you want to role-play games, go somewhere else … or at the very least keep that BS in the rp sims and don’t bring that offensive BS into the general world of SL. John Norman wasn’t even a good writer, and I love science fiction. When he first began writing the Gor series, I gave it a chance, but it was poorly written and even though the slavery aspect is very secondary in the novels, I found it very misogynistic. Then, do a review of the literature, the master-slave phenomenon shows those sad, pathetic people to be weak-willed and lacking in self-respect — both the dom and the sub.
I find intelligence and strength of character (self-respect) very sexy and alluring.
So, fuk off Goreans and slavers … and keep the collars, too.

Its always nice to see people skipping over everything else to zero onto the one thing that they “feel” is pathetic or a waste of anyone’s time. Yes, I help models learn how to fit prims better or how to use certain poses with certain outfits to make it work. I’ve built a career doing something I love, a talent that isn’t exactly easy, creating and designing clothing out of little wooden boxes or a blank page. But I suppose that supporting my household in such a manner is also pathetic and useless?

Being in the fashion business means that sometimes I have to do things like help models. Why do I do it? Well, its a form of advertising. One, I enjoy helping people learn. Definately not pathetic, and even if it is something as simple as helping them fit prims, at least I’m doing something constructive instead of putting down people to make myself feel better.

You know what, on my deathbed, I’m going to say that I did good things for others, no matter how small or trivial they might seem to anyone else. To the world you are one person, but to one person you might be the world.

FYI – I just raised over 500,000L equivalent to $1800.00 for cancer patients hosted by Relay for Life with two pixel outfits, amazing huh? Computer games really can have a purpose…

It all boils down to how you want to live life. I have chosen to lead by example, to encourage rather than criticize those who want to learn something new. Sure, I could point and laugh and call people noobs every time they put one of my bags on their face or I can help them set it on the ground, teach them how to open it, and do something positive for someone else. I’d do the same thing for someone else in real life, like if they had a flat tire, I’d stop and offer to help, even if its only to use my phone to call someone else.

…then do it in real life, that is exactly my point. You are wasting your own life, and helping others to waste theirs by spending your life in a social computer game. You are not in the fashion business, you make pretend clothes for pretend people in a pretend world.

Anti-Matter: If SL were a social experience where ‘normal’ people who had balanced lives dipped in and out of, I would use it. However, it seems to me that the vast majority of people in SL are addicted to it, they’ve developed their own memes, and mindset – to them SL IS their life. It’s totally and utterly pathetic. I agree with you, most of them know it is too.

Anti Matter and Oh Dear are the same person and he is trying to make himself feel better about what a total twat he is in real life by coming back here and yelling at the kids still having fun in the pool.

“LOOK AT ME! I GAVE UP SL! I AM SUPERIOR DAMN IT!”

Why don’t you two go away for real then? I think Beautifully Sinister is hot, I like her pictures, and I think that the fact that she raised $2000 over the internet for charity is pretty cool. Obama raised a ton of money over the internet, are you saying he would have been better off raising it in real life?

So, Oh Dear and Anti Matter, we’re pleased that you gave up Second Life. I’m sure your new hobby of watching all the Rob and Big episodes, or jumping over things on a bicycle, or whatever uninteresting thing you fill your life with now is fulfilling enough that you shouldn’t feel the need to come back here and call us “pathetic.”

Finally, I really recommend that you see a professional. Just based on your semi-regular postings with this same theme here on the Herald, you clearly feel inadequate, you like to be judgmental and smack other people down to make yourself feel superior, and your belief that other people’s lives will be better if you tell them how to live point to some serious delusional and potentially dangerous mental health issues that won’t correct themselves. A good doctor can help you to train your thinking to something more healthy that will ultimately make you a better person and a happier one. No joke. You need some help.

That’s called denial btw. And no, we are not the same person, but you go right ahead and rationalize that uneducated guess and your equally weak position on the issue at hand, to your hearts content. Oh Dear has it spot on and I support “her” position. You on the other hand suffer from the exact delusional characteristics you claim to be pointing a finger at…and the only thing you are remotely accurate about is that professional help IS right around the corner in your tiny village. I’d recommend you ring them up.

Opposing opinions are a bitch aren’t they?

I think you’ll lose this argument oh dear -wonder woman was originally a comic strip character and she’s been pretty universally declared “hot” Guys have been whacking it to cartoon superheros forever. You think josie and the pussycats weren’t about sex?

…then do it in real life, that is exactly my point. You are wasting your own life, and helping others to waste theirs by spending your life in a social computer game. You are not in the fashion business, you make pretend clothes for pretend people in a pretend world.

    —————————————————————
….Who are you exactly to tell me that I am wasting my life? I happen to think I’m improving it by keeping food on my table while still being able to stay at home and take care of my household.

Just because I dress pretend people doesn’t make it any less of a real job? People that create games such as World of Warcraft and other MMORPG make tons designing and creating avatars, gear, armor and all that. People who draw cartoons make fortunes doodling semi-basic figures on paper. How is what I do any different from those people? The answer is, it’s not, but I don’t see you pointing your finger at them going “SHAME ON YOU!”

I find it really sad that you have to reach out and attack an average female, with an average life, with a family and friends outside of SL that I do spend a great deal of time with. Yeah, I spend hours on here, about 40 a week, give or take. Same as a real life job.

Building things, no matter the game or program takes talent and creativity. It is an artistic outlet. It allows me to take ideas and designs trapped in my head and transfer them to people in a way that allows people to enjoy them. Clothing designers make a fortune in real life doing the same thing. I happen to like medieval styles, which generally isn’t something you see worn on every street corner so trying to do the same thing in real life just wouldn’t be relevant. Sure, I could make costumes, I can sew and craft just as well as any, but then I’ll still be dressing up people for their pretend games.

So, here’s to being a sad, sad girl if that what it makes me. Keep on dreaming and keep on doing what you love, no matter WHAT some people say to you!

BTW, both of you two that just keeping saying more insulting things and declaring how superior you are by giving up second life….get a life of your own. Its pretty obvious you still cling to the game if you are still reading blogs about it, posting in forums for a game you don’t even play anymore. It’s a bit hypocritical. Pot calling the kettle black? Yes, I quit SL but I’m now spending 10 hours a day insulting people on SL forums for playing a game I once played. Its amusing :P

    Just my opinions,
    Sin

There’s a step in “the program” for your obvious state of denial Beautifully. Keeping food on your table via that pixel model fashion designer lifestyle is without a doubt pathetic & sad; you eating hamburger helper with those meager profits? Seek professional help b/c defending yourself on a blog like this ends up being rather silly, shallow and embarrassing for you, no?

Fighting on the internet is like the special olympics; no matter who ends up winning, you still wake up in the morning drooling and retarded.

I’m glad Anti-matter and Oh dear are here, telling us how to properly live our lives with their well-won experience in what? I wish I could better listen to them, but I’m afraid their points are being drowned out by my laughter due to two people spending time debating on a blog for a game they claim to hate criticizing others for bad time management.

Though I especially like the “Why don’t you do it in real life then?” comment, it’s so wonderfully naive.

*Laughs* Thanks We, thats a perfect way to start my morning, with someone who sees the irony in their statements. From what I hear, they sit on these blogs and insult a lot of people.

So let’s see. Make my meager profit making pixel fashion or make nothing and insult people? I’ll take my meager profit anyday :)

As for wonder woman, my uncle, in his 50′s still thinks she is the sexiest woman alive. He’s definately not a comic book nerd or a teenager.

I do, in fact, make more money than I would working at Burger King, thank you very much. I’ve had this thing you call hamburger helper more times than I can count, I assure you. Its easy, simple, and quite quick when you don’t have time to toss together something better, however, its not a common food in my household. I’m a southern gal, we tend to lean towards a good sirloin or rib-eye with some fresh vegetables. Its a lot healthier, you should try it. Beats the crap outta those boxed meals.

I’m not really in denial. I love Second Life and what I can do with the game. At the end of the day, that’s what counts. Yeah, I’ll admit, I’m addicted to it and spend hours here. Oh well. We all have our vices. I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs. I’d much rather be addicted to an online game than something far more deadly or dangerous.

Though, I have to admit, being called pathetic and sad by someone called PixelholicsAnonyMoses is again amusing. Have you teamed up with Anti-Matter and Oh Dear to create an addict group for Second Life Users? That would be awesome! You could even create your own blog to gripe and complain about Second Life users instead of posting on this one! What a neat idea!

Despite many of the above comments, it IS possible to make a RL living with SL profits .. or at least supplement your RL income with the SL money. I’ve paid for my RL vacations the past three years (two of them out of the country) with SL profits, and I”m not even in that top tier of people who make over $1000 US a month in SL. There are many many of us making between $100 and $1000 (US) a month in SL, free and clear.
So, go ahead and make fun of the clothing designers, animation creators, builders, etc .. they are laughing at you, all the way to the bank.

Oh jeez louise… what is the deal with all this existential angst over whether someone spends part of their free time in SL or elsewhere? I don’t get these busybodies who just can’t stand that someone else is enjoying themselves being an SL model or builder or helper or whatever. If you don’t want to play SL, don’t play it. It’s really pretty simple.

Beautifully Sinister has built herself a pretty avatar, and she likes to help people in-world. Okay, great for her and more power to her. She’s raised money in SL for charity, even… which is probably a lot more self-giving than most people in SL tend to be, myself included. And her activities are bad, how? Is it also bad that millions of other people play games on computers, or chatter with friends on Facebook/Twitter/next-new-thing on computers, or write code on computers, or watch TV on computers? Is it the computers the busybodies hate? Are they aware they’re using a computer to complain about people using computers?

I can’t stand Gor either, so I don’t visit Gorean sims. Problem solved, as far as I’m concerned.

one thing that i have never understood as long as i have been talking/hearing about second life….is why are people so utterly offended by its existence. its not for everyone, i get that part…just like being a brain surgeon isn’t for everyone….but i suppose that the hate shown for this one game/virtual reality extends into all situations in life..people constantly transferring their social expectations on all others…even though we all come from different place and experiences…and personally its so disappointing to see the amount of intolerance and ignorance coming from all different angles.

if there is something you want to do in your life, do it…you don’t have to explain yourself to anyone on this planet

a good book to read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius…funny how something so old can apply so much to modern life

**that’s my comment and for anyone that feels like arguing with it will get nothing in return from this source…just a passerby on this site**
