Second Life SexBed Industry Thrown Into Chaos

Stroker Serpentine's SexGen 600 animation bed now full permission - and free

the end of an era

This was without question an historic day. If there was any question about Stroker Serpentine leaving Second Life, it was erased Wednesday morning when he made the flagship of his SexGen business available with copy/transfer/modify permissions. The bed that turned a former real life plumber into a millionaire is now available to anyone - and free.

The 600 animation virtual kama sutra is already creating waves of fear and uncertainty among other sex bed merchants. While a crowd gathered to witness history in the making earlier this evening, I spoke with Corsi Mousehold who has used sexbed sales to help pay land tier fees on FurNation - a refuge for furry avatars.

Corsi Mousehold: I am in tears
Pixeleen Mistral: I think the bottom just fell out of the sexbed market
Corsi Mousehold: Yes
Corsi Mousehold: Yes it did
Corsi Mousehold: And FurNation may have to close because of it.

Pixeleen Mistral: that was the first thing I said when I saw this
Corsi Mousehold: I could raise rent prices and stay alive

Pixeleen Mistral: well - do what you need to do
Corsi Mousehold: But .... Fuck Stroker really screwed me here.
Corsi Mousehold: I could DMCA but in SL things can spread like wildfire.
Corsi Mousehold: I would have to DMCA every single person I find that is giving it away
Corsi Mousehold: That's a nightmare

Pixeleen Mistral: good luck with that
Corsi Mousehold: Either way I will have 100+ more animations in mine than in these.
Corsi Mousehold: I'll just add these and call it 1500 L$ anyway
Corsi Mousehold: Take the lessers off the market. They weren't selling really anyway
Corsi Mousehold: FurNation is going to need support here.
Corsi Mousehold: Or it will die.

a crowd gathers

Pixeleen Mistral: FurNation is going to need to suck it up and get another revenue stream
Corsi Mousehold: Truth

Pixeleen Mistral: and SL is going to feel this too I think
Corsi Mousehold: Yes it will
Corsi Mousehold: Not in a month but in about two months everyone's going to feel it
Corsi Mousehold: And we thought the MLP release was bad

    Ouch…

A little overzealous in our elitism aren’t we?

Yet another armchair loudmouth troll in SL.

    Yet another loser…

All I know is there are way better animations out there. That engine was set out there for free to try to bring the industry crashing down. If you ask me all you did was help the businesses that keep their line of products and animations fresh. Guess if Stroker spent more time working on making newer products and animations rather than looking at who was the next person he could sue, he might have been a continued success like many businesses still are years later. Well at least he gave to the noobs in the end. I don’t think this is the last of it though. He probably had some new idea and wanted to establish a completely new business. Every person who makes their RL income in SL, is not going to just give up their business the way he did. He’s lurking in the shadows still. But as for other animation and bed seller’s worrying. LOL, I have spoken to many of them. Sales continue to increase in spite of Mr. Serpentine’s stunt.

Agreed. My Bed sales has never been higher and I sell the most expensive bed in SL, for good reason ;) GL Stroker.

Why do people fight over virtual products that can be replicated with a click of a mouse? Is this ethical?

There are so many other things in the world people can do to help others. Perhaps the content creators who make these things should think about other things they can make irl. The reason why is that its unethical to intimidate people just for business. It scares noobs and makes the environment inhospitable.

All this does is force people using old outdated content to lower their prices…

Or perhaps make better -looking- furniture / lower prim furniture their competition point.

These devices have long been over-priced in SL, but that was largely driven by extreme costs of getting a license to use one of the animation systems.

Now the back-engine can be free, allowing costs to go down to what it takes to fund the other elements of a finished design.

The idea is that Furnation uses the profits from the sales of Sex beds to fund their various sims used for the furry community. Let’s face it; sex sells, it always has. Xcite!, a leading producer of sex toys itself is one of the biggest industries in SL next to virtual real estate.
To have Stroker give out his famed sexgen bed base system full permissions means anyone can have a high quality toy for their love making in the world, and no one needs to buy anything from a retailer. And since Sex is one of the biggest imports SL has to the internet community, this is a huge financial blow. This is going to affect the existence of whole sims for quite some time.

YAY! Finally we can tune these things to the way we want them to be. Also the same needs in OpenSim git a proverbial leg (or something) up.
