From the Forums Banned

Newsflash! Our sources tell us that the ever-controversial Prokofy Neva has received notification from Linden Lab that he and his alts will no longer be able to post to the Second Life forums. No 72-hour ban here, the Prok has been perma-gagged, at least as far as the forums are concerned.
The ban comes for having “repeatedly violated the Community Standards and the Forum Guidelines,” according to Linden Lab, the back-breaking straw having occurred on June 15. As is normal in the sometimes strange judicial system that prevails in Second Life, the identity of any accuser is not made known even to the one being charged, nor is the specific CS violation cited.
But Prok has no lack of enemies in the forums. His “whinescraper” forum posts have managed to engender broad hostility and even retaliatory attacks, while raising some of the most important issues on the Grid, issues that even Linden Lab concedes, both publicly and privately, are valid concerns. It was Prokofy, remember, who coined the term Feted Inner Core, a term that has spread widely over the Grid and has even appeared in the log-on message of LL’s client software.
But he seems unable to raise these concerns without at the same time attacking those he would protect the Grid from. And when the spark from their flinty retaliations hits the kindling strewn about the forums, a series of conflagratory flame wars has been the only result.
The behavior has been reprehensible on both sides of the argument. Prok’s posts are inflammatory and insulting. The community’s reaction to him has been no less than vile, at times. It was probably inevitable that a forum permaban would be handed down. But we’ll be sorry to see one of the most interesting characters in Second Life silenced in that realm.

It’s good to see that Coco isn’t just a sycophant, but also a hypocrite. You’re able to rail for a dozen posts about the injustice of revealing alts, but you’re not above doing it yourself.

You have to wonder about a game that puts in a last name like “Hannibal” inviting a cannibalistic “Lector”. Ugh! I was fortunate to have an experience with a very unprofessional “Live Helper” which, added to other such encounters, helped me to really critically challenge this very uneven institution, made up of the kind of old boys’ network they used to have in British schools. These people drawn from the ranks of older players (and not-so-old) often are very patient and helpful. But they have baggage and bias, little oversight, no real training, and can behave badly. Worst of all, when you criticize one helper or incident, and point to flaws in the system that make such a thing not only possible but chronically persistent, the old boys leap on you like bats out of hell to protect the whole flawed system. Like other systems in the MMORPGy culture of SL, this needs a review. I’m happy to have given it one.
Coco wasn’t a victim of someone attempting to out her alts, she was a victim of someone to claim she *was* an alt — that’s different, geez. So she’s not a hyppocrite here. I personally haven’t been wanting to chase down “Nerferder’s” identity even though I have had fun making anagrams out of the name : ) I figure the anonymous persecution is such a hallmark of that hideous informers’ culture at the SL forums that it’s helpful when people parade it around on the outside, too, so it gets some exposer. “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” I do have to wonder how Coco came up with all this info lol.

What’s your point Coco? Your many vociferous and illogical arguments in the SL Forums were predicated on the inherent immorality in posting alternate or first life information. Your argument was not that it was against SL CS.

Actually, your views often seem to dovetail with the Bolsheviks, Nerf, but that could be uh sheer coincidence. You know, one of the signs of a pseudo-intellectual is over-reliance on quotations, and use of Barlett’s type webpages using their search engines on words like “envy”. The Internet is really a dangerous thing for the half-educated. They often don’t use the Internet to finish up the other half of their education, but to undo the half they have.

I happen to be a teacher, Mr. Bright Bulb. You know, one of those under paid folks that JFK commented on, when he said that people were willing pay plumbers more than educators. I don’t worry about the pay too much though – I like to give of myself without really caring too much what I get in return. Seeing my students faces when the light bulbs go on in their brains is satisfying enough for me. As long as I have that, something to eat, and a roof over my head, I am happy. Unlike someone whose name rhymes with rock.

You gave the rules somewhere above, no RL info, otherwise “go at it”. Way to back up your words through action.

That having been said, I will repeat the board policy for those who are comprehension impaired. Leave real life out of it. I’m not interested in whether in real life someone is male or female, what they do for a living, where they live, what there sexual proclivities are, and still less interested in your uninformed speculation on their physical and mental health.
Now I understand that the distinction between RL and VR bleeds, and that the distinction is particularly difficult for *you* to keep in focus, but please nerfy, could you at least try?

It’s very telling that Prok is allowed to make “pop psych” claims about my RL education, which go unedited, yet when I suggest that perhaps online communities are not a good idea for someone who has trouble getting along with such a vast number and a wide spectrum of others, it gets smacked down.

I am not interested in gender or the like either, but when someone [yet another thoughtful discussion of someone's RL mental health elided --Uri] , it should be fair game. Walker posted earlier today on the SL forums:”He was an inflammatory pain in the ass in these forums and more than a bit paranoid”. Interesting. I would have thought you two would embrace similar philosophies. Apparently inconsistency is the rule over here.
Please see my above post which refers to your leaving of Prok’s assessment of my RL education, then maybe you will understand why I think you are biased.
I am glad you don’t like me. If you did, I might consider seppuku.

Hi l have been observing the forum discussion for a while and wanted to agree with Aimee…of course you should turn the alarm clock off. But also l agree with her about Nerferder, fair enough you have a feud with Prok however as an educator as you claim to be, it is your responsibility to educate others the arts of equity, tolerance and social discussion over important topics as these are essential skills in life. And like it or not Prok has some valid points. As for you Prok l think you have an extremely intelligent mind and you are either trying to get everyones blood boiling to pay attention to your views, which is working magnificantly by the way, or you have a bad attitude towards social groups. I hope this discussion can continue in a civilised manner or else those involved in this discussion need to take a minute and look at themselves and how they are acting.

Kalnae, Prokofy is beyond education, mostly because he considers himself the authority on almost all aspects of online life.
He systematically rejects all civil criticism, and usually personally attacks anyone giving advice, even his friends.
I think you are missing a couple of things here.
-I am trying to illustrate to Prok how he comes off. It most likely won’t work, but it’s worth a try. So in effect, it’s an attempt to educate Prokofy via mimicry.
-I think you are also not catching what I see as subtle satire of Prokofy by Aimee. Perhaps I am wrong, but that is the way I read her post. Aimee? Perhaps you can clear this up?

Uh, the “subtle satire” that Aimee engages in, and which Uri unfortunately didn’t catch, is just the usual forums baiting and ridicule using the disclosure of RL information which is not on the SL profile and is not to be used, and when is used, a grounds for disciplinary action under the TOS — that is, when the TOS is enfoced, which the Lindens only do sporadically, and often only when someone is there to press the AR button.
