The Great PN Raid of November ’07
Was planned to be vicious and mean,
With sim-crashing style,
And “lulz” by the mile,
The worst Second Lifers had seen.
The Green Lantern Core and the great Justice League
Were prepared to observe and report.
With their shields charged to max,
They’d AR the attacks
By the griefers they’d promised to thwart.
The Lindens were ready, their steely eyes steady.
The Grid was in perfect repair.
At the first sign of trouble
They’d move on the double,
Protecting the residents there.
The sim owners, managers, vendors and guests
Were unsure of just what to expect,
So they locked down their sims
And inspected their prims
And security they double checked.
The day came at last, and the griefers moved fast,
But anarchy failed to ensue.
Lack of participation
Was SL’s salvation,
So PN’s big plans all fell through.
A couple of longcats were all that we saw,
And a singular Shiny Fun Friend.
With a scroll and a click,
The cleanup was quick,
And Friday night came to an end.
Now somewhere the griefers are vicious and keen,
And cunning and ruthless and smart,
But the Second Life kind
Are the ones we don’t mind,
For their plans always just fall apart.

I ised to hate PN. Loathe them. With everyt lulzcube, and every post by them on this newspa… sensationalist rag, I had a lot of trouble not just going over to 4 chan and 7chan and fill their imageboards with I dunno, furry porn.
But, I read a little something, and not being an art history major but having had art history classes in the past, I agree with the writer of the piece.

Read that Wikipedia article completely. Dadaists were artists. They wrote letters, poems, and novels, published magazines, wrote music, and made speeches. Griefers are vandals who attempt to make Second Life unavailable to its intended users. In fact, that’s one definition of a Denial of Service attack, which is a crime. Wikipedia says:
“Although the means to, motives for and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally comprises the concerted, malevolent efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely.”
People are earning actual money in Second life. Denial of service attacks are expensive. So, sim-crashers, welcome to the wonderful world of court appearances, orange jumpsuits, cavity searches, and playing drop-the-soap with your cellmate Bubba. Some of you may learn, perhaps involuntarily, how to make that little “eep!” sound without the benefit of a high speed Internet connection and a preprogrammed gesture.

I think there used to be griefers with a statement before, who acted the way they did because they wanted to add the absurd and the bizarre and make sure people didn’t take Second Life seriously. It seems to me that these people were slowly weeded out by people who are simply just griefers who are only doing these things because they want to offend people and break things for whatever reason.
I understand the whole dadaist argument, and I can see that to an extent with some of the older behaviors of what would be considered griefer groups. But bombing areas with particles and grey goo replication boxes to crash the sims isn’t an artistic statement. It’s simply a denial of service act. But there CAN be Dadaist style performance art in Second Life that does look something like Griefing. Look up Second Front, they’re a group that does performance art in Second Life that kinda looks like griefing, except without all the crashing sims and purposefully offending people.

Looking at where the PN come from, 7chan and 4 chan, and the images you find there, it’s easy to see the comparison with the mona lisa with mustache.
Also, it may seem as if the PN do this all out of a deep rooted hatred for furries, but that isnt entirely true, proven by the fact they target not only furry sims, and the little known fact that a large number of PN and /b/ members *are* furries. So comparing their actions with the Kristall Nacht is a bit much… would be valid if a large number of the Nazi’s were in fact Jewish themselves.
Sure, not all of them do it as a kicking back against everything we love about SL, like the Dardaists did, and some really are so retarded to do it purely to want to destroy out of hate. But seeing what they accomplish, it’s a lot more like an anti-art group of artists, then the Nazi’s from 40-45.
At least the Nazi’s were effective in what hey wanted to accomplish. Most the PN can pull off, is down a few servers that can easily be restarted, they havent been able to permanently shut down any furry sim or club yet.

Artemis is right circa vintage PN, around Feb or so. The reason we had Fort Longcats in the first place was to remind ourselves that it wasn’t serious business – we could fuck around and start dancing to Moskau up in a giant box filled with soviet propaganda in between going around and pissing off furries (by other means than crashing their sims). The FL we built outside the GYC was meant as a pseudo-protest – they kicked us out so we’d protest on the edge of their parcel, with a bunch of furries on the other side wondering what the hell was going on. Unfortunately once the Edwards thing broke we were no longer under the radar and FLs were no longer an option.
As for the furry argument – I don’t give a damn what you like, as long as you keep it to yourself. The only people we target (or at least did when I was around) are those who make a lot of noise. If there was a furry in PN that kept his mouth shut (don’t ask, don’t tell ftw) I wouldn’t see a problem.
At this point I’m not really sure what the PN stand for, or if they stand for anything at all. I’m beyond caring – as long as funny shit like this gets posted, whatever they’re doing is good enough for me.
