Griefing Under the Old Regime

Plastic Duck – a metaverse pioneer

I still stand by my belief that Philip cannot be blamed for all of the Chaos in Second Life. Linden Labs has had so much to do in the last few years trying to fix so many of the problems that naturally plague such a complex platform.

I think that any computer programmer can appreciate just how complex it would be to program an online world where millions of users can create content with a built in expansive and highly useful scripting language, a world where users can buy or rent land, sell items and have a permissions system, a world with decent graphics, so large that it runs on thousands of servers.

So here I’m not blaming Philip or the Lab for the griefing in Second Life. Here I am reminiscing about what it was like to grief in Second Life over the last few years, beginning with the history of the PN, W-hat, Plastic Duck and then ending with my own experiences. How griefing has evolved since Second Life was first established will be one of the main focuses of these pieces.

Because SL’s history of griefing is so incredibly extensive we are introducing Griefing Under the Old Regime as a series instead of a single article.

There has been so many instances of griefing that one could write a book on the exploits of Plastic Duck alone, not to mention W-Hat as a whole, Woodbury University and The PN.

No one knows for sure when the first griefer emerged but the first widely known griefer group in SL were the W-Hats. W-Hat was established on April 27 2004 in Second Life where they migrated from the Something Awful forums. Today they claim that their intention was to “to get away from the bad reputation of the original SA Goons group” and that “W-Hat is for people who actually want to play the game, not people who want to grief and get themselves banned.”

Fatty_kidd20070810075037508175water
two recent W-HATs

Today that holds true, but when they were established many feel that it was not. On their site they have a FAQ where they address the communities concerns over their rather colorful history. Surprisingly, they quoted one of the few intelligent statements that N3X15 of the PN ever made. It’s hard to capture those things, you know.

Despite the fact that W-hat was a griefer group, there are still alot of misconceptions being spread about them. Even when they were actively griefing statements like the one below were retarded.

“It’s fairly common knowledge that to join W-Hat you sign on as a ‘throw-away character’, do some big ‘exploits’ as part of the admission process, and if it works and is generally approved of, log on as a new avatar and new W-Hat member. I bet you cant even join W-Hat without being banned or warned at least once.” — Dianne Mechanique

To date the W-Hats are still some of the most talented builders and scripters on the entire grid. In fact, they are generally very tech saavy. The W-Hats, now reformed, make their home in the what sim where they use their creative energies to make awe-inspiring builds rather than harrassing everyone like they had in days of old.

W-Hat was the first publicized griefer group in Second Life. Unlike the griefers we see today they were vibrant, creative and original. Much of their weaponry and the memes they used exist today in the PN where a bunch of juveniles continue to use them mindlessly and without any originality. Unlike the PN, W-Hat’s were not so much blatant griefers, they actually denied their involvement in griefing and attempted to mask it. One of the first articles about W-Hat focused on an interview between Herald editor Urizenus Sklar and an internet tough guy by the name of ‘One Song’.

An enraged One Song spent the interview spouting idle threats towards W-Hat members, upset at all of the anti semitic memes being used and a few anti semitic grief builds on display in their sim. At some point before the article was published W-Hat members experienced some of the first permanent bans of many yet to come since the group had been established.

When they weren’t building and scripting W-Hats tended to infuriate day to day SLers by using words like ‘teh interweb’ back when it was actually cool to do. See logs from the interview below:

excerpt from article by Urizenus Sklar:
One Song: for sure, and in fact they encourage behaviour like that from their member’s; these guys are dysfunctional uber fu*king geeks with no evident lives — I hear rumours that they have secret forums and shit on “teh interweb” One Song: and the “teh” wasn’t misspelled that’s how those geeks spell it because its apparently cool to spell it that way One Song: and call the internet “interweb”

On July 19th of 2005 news broke of one of the first instances of an exploit being used by griefers (W-Hat members) to steal scripts for which they did not have permissions.Of course as with any major exploit in Second Life the infamous Plastic Duck was involved in it’s discovery. In the history of Second Life there have only been a handful of instances in where stealing scripts has been possible. Thankfully the lab acted quickly to fix the problem, but not before it had been used to compromise the assets of some of SL’s biggest businesses at the time.

The exploit was used to gain access to popular scripts, including all of the major ATM machines, the Nexcom phones, Seburo, ROAM, and others. The source was made publicly available in IRC and through the web. Hazim Gazov, another griefer who would also be involved in the discovery of several newer exploits later was said to be involved as well. Scripts to the following products among others were said to have been stolen and made public:

Cubey Terra Flight WARP
Gigas Server
Ginko ATM
Gravity Gun
Hug script
LCC Vendor
Nexcom 3
Roam
Scan Foo
Seburo Compact-eXploder v.1.3.47i
SL Boutique Vendor 0.7
SLBoutique (old vendor code; deprecated)
SL Exchange Terminals
Splashable Water

W-Hat leaders gave the typical response, adamantly denying involvement attributing the hack to a few ‘bad apples’.

Of course one of the fundamental griefer pastimes is to harrass Prokofy Neva. One of the most memorable articles I read was written by him here where Prok tells us an amusing tale of Philip Linden, SL game god himself greeting a freshly registered alt named ‘Griefer Overlord’.
Prok goes on to tell us about W-Hat shenanigans harassing him at a job fair he was holding on his sim. It seems that w-hat began the trend of harassing Prokofy, a tradition still carried on today by the Patriotic Nigras.

Here is an excerpt from the article which I found to be particularly humorous:

“W-Hat is back, I immediately said to myself. Zooming in on the avatars, and seeing one named Groovenstein Korvin clinched it for me. Groovenstein I had last seen in Ross, griefing my event. I had tried to hold a job fair for would-be employers and job-seekers, and a posse of W-Hat fresh alts and old hands like Operating Thetan showed up the heckle, fly around, intimidate, and generally make a nuisance of themselves to prevent people from functioning. I was puzzled why they singled me out, but I guess it’s because I challenged their event griefing in the past. They kept piping up with fake resumes like, “I’m looking for a job as the World Trade Center,” a reference to their infamous stalking of me in Baileya with a huge WTC replica – something they’d offensively deployed in world earlier to many people’s dismay, with the nauseating slogan, “I’m falling for you.” Um, no we’re not. Not this time, assholes.

Looking over the bunch, I spotted one very new days-old fellow in coat and tails with a monacle, with the lovely evocative name of Griefer Overlord. My word, we’re starting to slack in the imagination department, as usually the names are like…um…Lulu Lulu, was one of them griefing me in Ross, now no longer in the list.

Now, you ask, how could I be sure that the seeming innocent groovily named Groovenstein was anything related to W-Hat? Because he was with the group that said cried “Plastic Duck says ‘hi,’” when they griefed in Ross. And the signature is there — please, spare me. [Groovenstein is in fact dr_groovenstein from the Something Awful Forums -- Undercover Hat]

One of them cried the faux-Islamicist chant that this alt Rotten Thatch, now gone from the list, cried as he crashed first an airplane, then a building into me and my restaurant in Baileya.”

Perhaps the griefers like Prok so well because he interacts with them, it almost like a rehearsed stand up comedy act. They harass Prok, and predictably he writes an article about them filled with sarcastic funny stuff. Granted he has gotten far better at not acknowledging them since (I think this may have resulted in less griefing for him too)

Towards the end of 2005 Plastic Duck, a griefer with known W-Hat ties had become so infamous that he was actually interviewed on live TV and he was awarded 3rd place for Avatar of the Year award by the Herald. Some of the least of his accomplishments included:

- Stolen scripts and republished them on the web
- Hired residents to negative rate other residents
- Dropped the infamous Goatse image all over Second Life
- Harassed the furry community
- Sexually harassed female residents
- Spammed other with Penis images
- Was part of the group that recreated a flaming World Trade Center in Second Life with a smashed plane smashed and falling bodies.

Besides alleged grid crashing, Plastic also discovered tons of very serious exploits in Second Life during this time, many of which he reported directly to CEO Philip Rosedale. I have had the pleasure of speaking with him in both email and IRC on several occasions. He is well liked by many a resident and linden alike.

Rumors of Plastic Duck sightings were circulating wildly by April of 06, long after Plastic had been permabanned, when someone believed to be him trashed a Sudanese refugee camp in a sim called betterworld. No one was ever able to confirm the identity of the attacker.

Additionally in early 06 a number of highly publicized grid attacks took place. One of the first ones was featured in a news article here

It is widely believed that a large number of W-Hat members were involved in many of the grid attacks that would later occur. In those days crashing the SL grid was far simpler than it is today. Some would say that the instances of grid crashing were a blessing. They enabled the lindens to harden the grid, making it far more difficult for griefers to crash it in the future.

Coming next:
More on plastic duck, the W-Hat/Voted 5 mass bannings, a prelude to the establishment of the PN, and other instances of isolated griefing in 2006

Plastic is still on the grid. His current account has lasted him quite well, mainly because few people, even within W-Hat, know that it’s him.

Been in SL a year and a half, still have never seen a griefer or griefing attack.

Aren’t they really totally irrelevant to the great majority of SL residents? We don’t see them, see their ‘attacks’, and we’re not affected at all by what they do.

The “Sudanese refugee camp in a sim called betterworld” is still there. It’s called Camp Darfur. It was one of the reasons the Green Lantern Core changed from a roleplaying group to an anti-griefer group. This article in New World Notes convinced me and many others to join the Core:

    http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2006/05/guarding_darfur.html

“Been in SL a year and a half, still have never seen a griefer or griefing attack.”

And never spent any time in a Linden sandbox, apparently.

The vast majority of griefers would not exist without free accounts in SL. Griefers for the most part or nothing more than kids looking for attention or seriously defective semi adults suffering from other mental issues that thrive on these free linden accounts. So therefore it is P.R.s fault for all this griefing crapola in sl because he has failed to see the error and do the right thing to resolve it.

As a paid member in SL going on two years now ive just about had a belly full of Lindens free accounts and the privileges they have. If linden doesnt remove all but newbie bodied visiting privileges from these free accounts, SL will go down the tubes when real grid competing comes on line the end of 2008. In my opinion, as a customer service operation SL/LL fails and I personally am looking forward to another grid alternative similar to sl frankly.

DeadyCodec, You are the worst writer I have ever read. You can take a very interesting topic and make it boring and bland.

Get some skills, and maybe a little imagination.

Vagueness and sheer incompetence are the most marked characteristic of your writing style.

I’ll second that. Griefing skyrocketed when LL started letting in unverifieds, and it’ll all but vanish when they stop doing it. IF they stop. The illegal hacked client ShoopedLife will lose its relevance if you have to register your identity to play regardless.

    @ Greenlantern

You’re right, I was told when I started SL that the sandboxes were pretty worthless because you couldn’t do anything much without getting interrupted by someone trying to sell you things or by kids griefing. So, I simply found myself a few private sandboxes to ‘work’ in. Also, there are a LOT of places that allow you to build and that don’t have the ‘autoreturn’ activated. I typically find a quiet spot, rezz a prim and sort inventory for ten minutes. If the prim is still there then, I know it’s safe to work on things .. and of course I clean up afterward.

We will know if DiSSENTiON and the PN are active in SL tonight because we will be seeing Linden Blogs and little Blue popup windows saying things like: “WE ARE SORRY BUT OUR INWORLD SERVICES ARE UNLIMITED FAIL Because Someone Is Hammering Our Asset Servers (again)”. We shall see. It will be dark soon. Then it will be ‘SL After Dark’ when the griefers all come out, so I guess we shall see if anything really happens. It’s almost as if you can actually feel their pent up rage out there. But I suppose they have to be careful and crafty too. Watching and waiting and working out plans… Maybe InWorld is the place to be tonight… humm who knows…

(ps, I have seen those “Green Lanterns” before and all they did was cause major trouble like getting all into peoples private business and then pushing people around and stuff, so I hope they stay in the sandboxes digging for kittyroca where they belong…)

(pps, The PN website had more than just LSL code snippets that were interesting, they also had collected data on various infamous SL groups and personalities like the JLU and the Green Lantern Spandex Splurge and on someone named Prokofy Neva. I would like to see some more detail on who that Neva person is in relation to the History of Griefing. From what I can gather, a lot of the original griefing was in response to things which that Neva person did, so I’m thinking that maybe that Neva was instigating things… the picture is becoming clearer… thanks deadlyCodec please write more…)

    OKKKKK!

So some little script kiddie (supposedly soldout), griefer teenie, who is trying to appear legit is going to tell us how griefing was before he had ever heard of SL?

That’s not even worth a muted laugh. Not to mention, the way he writes is about as entertaining as a trip to a cornfield in Iowa.

This is what the Herald has to offer? Perma-kids who refuse to leave the nest (mom’s basement), who passive aggressively blame anyone and anything else but the griefers themselves for griefing actions and who can’t write worth a shit? Maybe he ought to be writing instruction manuals for assembling shelving units from WalMart?

Pixeleen, who can’t get her facts straight, and who could find a story in discovering an empty toilet paper spool in a Target store? Everyone knows that empty spool = Linden Labs is failing, so sell your land now, people!

Tenshi, the pseudo-intellectual, “I will do or say just about anything for attention, and I am so stupid and have my nose firmly planted so far up my own ass (read: Insecure) that I don’t even realise that I am the laughing stock of SL and its forum/blog scene”? Take a cue from Moo Money honey – you can’t be both an ascendant FIC hanger-on AND a bitch, or you will be torn to shreds, and rightly so.

I had heartburn from Mexican food last night. Maybe I can submit a story about it? I do wear a parka indoors, so I must be qualified.

I never thought I’d be saying it, but I miss the days when this place was beleaguered by Prok’s paranoia/projection/invented issues, Uri’s ridiculously biased, over-the-hill, wannabe hipster, homoerotic frat-boy speak, and Coconut’s endless supply of Pollyanna comments.

Why is it that griefers are considered “kids” or less intelligent than the people who take the game seriously? If anyone is the “seriously defective semi adults suffering from other mental issues” it’s the people who waste their lives living in a virtual reality. Take a look at yourselves before judging the people who use this game for laughs.

    - Why do people rely on an online game for their main income and then bitch and whine to LL about their service being ass? It’s your own fucking fault, just like with any business, you GAMBLED by becoming an entrepreneur, only you did it through SOMEONE ELSE’S SERVICE!
    - Sex in SL looks retarded and isn’t even good fap material, so why does anyone bother engaging in it unless for laughs?
    - Why do guys pay money to women (men irl) to see shiney textured breasts, or a tiny drawn slit between the legs? You must be some desperate and gullible, considering those women(men) don’t give two shits about you, only your money you dumbass. Also, how the fuck can you be attracted to someone who types like a fucking idiot? (eg. “i want 2 mak luv 2 u lol i toch my clit mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm fells gud mmmmmmmmm”)
    - If you want privacy, use something else, or at least set your parcel to access only. SL is supposed to be a game for the public, yet if you explore onto some stranger’s e-property they bitch and threaten to get you banned.
    - Why do people go to virtual clubs and parties? It’s so sad and boring. I’ve went to a few before, wanna know what I experienced? Well, all they consist of is a bunch of idle people listening to shitty streamed music while their avatar plays the same animations over and over for 3 fucking hours while some dumb bitch “host” shouts to tip the stripper slut fuckbags on stage who flirt with anything with two legs, and to put money into the sploder while a bunch of fuckfaces think they are oh so funny by spamming the most stupid, annoying gestures they can find. That’s all. That’s fucking all. HOW IS THIS FUN?! HOW THE FUCK IS THIS FUN?! GO SUCK A DICK!

If everyone on SL is a troll, then they managed to troll me good, because most of the population is so stupid it makes me angry. D:<

Welp, gee, lemme see if I can help you with that question.

My enjoyment of the platform doesn’t rely on annoying or bothering anyone else, yours does, which is overall a pretty immature way to get enjoyment. Grow up and be a little more creative on how to entertain yourself. I am using this game for laughs, and you are using it to piss me off while I’m trying to enjoy myself. What’s the matter, mommy don’t pay enough attention to you?

If people wasting their lives living in a virtual reality is so pathetic, what does that make people who waste their time being asshats to people who are wasting their live living in a virtual world? Wouldn’t that just make you a bully picking on the short bus kids?

If you act childish, people will assume and treat you like a child. Wanna be treated or thought of as an adult? Act like one.

Creative? Creativity is practically dead on SL. It’s sad that the most creativity I’ve ever seen in world came from the minds of griefers (grievers? I dunno fuck how it’s spelled). When I speak of “griefers”, I don’t refer to those dumbass newbies who go into sandboxes and randomly fire watermelons and cages at people, I mean the TRUE griefers; the W-Hats and the /b/tards.

They understand that the internet isn’t serious business, and so they have fun with themselves by doing shit that’s actually fun. Trolling serious faggots like you are just a past time from our usual activities. If your type is what’s considered “grown up” then you’re right, I don’t want to grow up because I don’t want to be a boring lame ass who flies off of the handle and files one hundred abuse reports everyday just because someone hit your avatar with prim penis. Get off of the internet, you’re taking it too seriously.

“What’s the matter, mommy don’t pay enough attention to you?”

Repetitive response is repetitive. What’s the matter, your husband left you alone to take care of a bunch of little rotten kids that were mistakes, so you have to escape from it all by living in a game?

“If people wasting their lives living in a virtual reality is so pathetic, what does that make people who waste their time being asshats to people who are wasting their live living in a virtual world?”

It may not be much of a life, but it is sure as hell entertaining.

In all honestly, most griefers that I know, are well within their mid 20′s. There are a few who are in their early 30′s as well.

Are they mental? Probably. But honestly, who the fuck isn’t mental who hang out on SL?

I’m sorry, but if you are going to sit there and defend this game as if it’s fucking real. I’d say you have far more issues that I might have.

    That’s just my opinion.

  19. notseriousbuisness

    Apr 24th, 2008

    strikiung me as funny:

Griefers and their fans concider anyone slightly annoyed by griefing and trolling, to be treating SL as serious buisness.

If you’re playing a game of GTA or somesuch,. for fun, not being serious about it… and someone comes in to stand in your vieuw so you cant continue your playing of the game in a normal way, do you tell them to fuck off or at least ask them to step aside?

    I bet you do.

So suppose this annoying jackass then tell you you shouldnt be so serious about it?

I think you would find that pretty retarded.

So hows my example different from someone in a sandbox, building for fun, and a PN or What or whatever comes along to stop you from having fun?

How’s that suddenly a legit form of entertainment, and the person trying to continue his fun at building, a pathetic loser? and how is he taking SL too seriously?

No-one except LL, Anshe Chung, Prok and perhaps some others who pay their rent with SL, finds this game anything serious. But you dont seem to get that, oddly enough.

  20. Pie Psaltery

    Apr 24th, 2008

No one’s trying to “defend this game as if it’s fucking real”. It’s not SL I’m defending, it’s my right to enjoy myself however I want to, without pissing off anyone else. That would be a mature stance of taking other people into consideration rather then the childish stance of thinking everyone in the world owes you something. It’s also pretty childish to think your form of entertainment is the only valid form of entertainment.

The game isn’t real. I’m real, and my enjoyment is real, and you being a butthurt little boy trying to get attention for yourself because everyone you know in the real world thinks you’re an asshat is real. Being 25 or 30 or 60 doesn’t stop you from being a butthurt little boy, btw.

“Creative? Creativity is practically dead on SL.” Wow, how incredibly narrow-sighted and really kind of sad that the only creativity you can find in a world of imagination is the disruption and destruction of other people’s entertainment. That’s not being creative, sugarplum, that’s being a asshat bully.

“It may not be much of a life, but it is sure as hell entertaining.” Gee, that could be a statement of anyone that enjoys this platform. I guess that makes you as pathetic as the people you’re griefing, huh?

“Get off of the internet, you’re taking it too seriously.” Wow, so now enjoying myself in anyway that doesn’t include pissing other people off is “taking it too seriously”. So then all the internet is good for is being an asshat and if you aren’t an asshat, then by god you are tooooo serious. Yea, right.

O, and no kids for me, thank you very much, I know what causes them and I know how to prevent them. I’ll admit to being a faggot, but only in that dyke-y way that some lesbians adopt. My mom and my partner loves me tho, so I think I’m ok.

And don’t worry, Nidol, from what I can tell, you’ll never grow up anyway.

“Take a look at yourselves before judging the people who use this game for laughs.”
That’s probably the most intelligent thing you’ve actually said, and I agree with it completely. Here’s a mirror.

I play SL because it is fun to hang out with my friends and build stuff with them. You play it because you like to piss off people who are minding their own business. And we aren’t “taking it seriously” when we tell you to take your 2nd grade antics elsewhere and get out of our way.

If you can’t have fun without making other people unhappy, you might consider examining what sort of person you really are, deep down.

“I am using this game for laughs, and you are using it to piss me off while I’m trying to enjoy myself.”

This really brings the issue into focus. You’re having fun in the sandbox, assembling a new building and getting everything just right. The griefer comes in and has fun by filling the place up with self-replicating objects. Then you have fun by writing an Abuse Report, and once he is banned you can get back to your building.

I like to think of it as being at a picnic, enjoying the company of your buddies, and being slightly annoyed by a fly who starts buzzing around you. You grab your Abuse Report flyswatter and get rid of the fly so you can go back to having fun with your friends. Or maybe it’s like combat. The griefer shoots at me with a lolcube BB gun and I blow him away with my AR rifle. I win every time. I’ve never lost a single battle.

Griefers spend hours and days writing and refining their scripts, finding appropriate textures and sound files for their objects, and planning the times and places of their attacks. An Abuse Report take less than 60 seconds to write, and it makes all their scripting and planning worthless. The futility and hopelessness of being a griefer is obvious to the casual observer.

When people truly do not find articles interesting they move on to the next one without comment…..Not you, you read every word and were motivated to comment Your insults ring hollow since it is obvious you have the Herald saved in your favorites. ;)

I do find it interesting. Just not for the same reasons as some others may.

    That’s why I comment.

And you’re one to whinge about insults.

I insult people who go out of their way to insult others and who have distorted, paranoid views of the world, and who treat SL as if it was the future of mankind. Fair game. That goes fro greefykids and for over-the-hill losers who invest so much time, money, emotion and energy into this sinking ship of fools. Sorry that ruffles your delicate sensibilities, Mr. Ironic.

@ DinkyHockerShootsSmack! : I have no problem with your response and it actually partially explained your motive for your first comment, so bravo. Your motive for your comment revolves around why people seem to take Sl too seriously and have distorted or paranoid views.
All of us here commenting are in the same boat-your “sinking ship of fools” as you described it. I spend more time discussing SL and reading about SL than actually BEING in SL…and I know I am not the only one. However I do not think SL is sinking. I think the initial excitement wears off after awhile and we get bored. We see the potential LL has created and always hunt for something more, something new.. We create, meet, explore, run businesses when we are in-world in an effort to keep SL fresh and interesting. This does not mean we do not have a real life outside of SL or that we treat it as the future of mankind. None of us here truly want Sl to fail which explains why you and I read about it in this and other websites.. I mean “interwebs”.
Anyway, keep shootingsmack like we all do from time to time but attacking D3adly and Pix is not the solution since we both know we will keep reading… ;)

  28. griefing: srs bsns or however it's spelled in 'leet'

    Apr 25th, 2008

And now that so many people told the grieferkiddies who use the “Doing it for the lulz! SL’s not seriousbuisness and you should be griefed if you think it is” that it’s BS cause it simply isnt true what they think other people take SL as, they find a new reason/explanation to their antics…

Teaching LL a lesson for us.

Let me tell you now: people are going to DiSS you about that too fellas.

griefing for the lulz is on the demise. Griefing for the ‘good cause’ takes its place slowly.

When are you children (of all ages) gonna get creative for once, and stop being so serious buisness about griefing?

I say griefers shouldn’t be stopped because they find exploits in the platform and LL goes and fixes or changes it, but thats just my opinion.

DiSTENtion bites the dust after only one week in operation, along with Tizzers Foxchase (again), DeadyCodec (again), the entire new WU sim, most of the WU accounts, and hey, does anybody know if IntLibber’s ban is permanent?

    Nice work, boneheads.

Here’s a good question… How can anyone take Green Lanterns and JLU seriously? They look rediculous when they’re present and they’re seldom openly friendly. It’s like having a real life clown come up to you, honk his horn and spray his flower, and ask you to stop spraypainting on the wall. I mean really now.

I’m not saying griefers are cool and anti-griefers are uncool. But let’s get real here. Griefers will always exist and groups like GL and JLU will always be a joke to them. They’re not a deterrent. They’re tattletails that look like clowns.

“I say griefers shouldn’t be stopped because they find exploits in the platform and LL goes and fixes or changes it, but thats just my opinion.”

That’s even bigger bullcrap thewn ‘We’re doing it to get LL to start fixing SL and apologize’

Griefers are not bugfixers, the only exploits they ever brought to light was the selfreplicating of prims with scripting.

And that was not an exploit, it was a bit of useful functionality that LL removed, and as such broke a lot of products and devies in SL.

Either you really have no fucking clue what the hell it is you’re talking about, or this is another retarded attempt to justify childish and very annoying behaviour, like the “trying to get LL to fix it” that these kids are now trying now that “for the lulz” has been shot down over and over again.

Surely this idiot doesn’t think that somehow me, WU and Intlibber all teamed up and formed a new griefer group? The more I read that crap the more it seems like thats what he is trying to imply. My god, what an idiot.

  37. d3adlyc0d3c

    Apr 25th, 2008

Thats not true.Firstly self replication has not been removed. Secondly griefers found permissions exploits, sim crashing exploits, privilege escalation bugs in the IM system, a plethora of ways to crash the grid and tons of other stuff. Apparently you haven’t done your research.

Asset servers nor transactions are working at the moment. Lets keep making fun of these “script kiddies” who can’t do any real damage and see what they come up with next!

Asset servers mysteriously dropped today and LL blamed it on a ‘hardware’ problem. I am inclined to believe the comment below made by a dissention spokesperson(?)

Did you actually consult anybody in W-Hat before dropping this pile of used toilet paper into Urizenus’ inbox?

I like Int, he’s a professional in attitude. Whenever my boss’ island has a glitch or a griefer problem a sim ban or a sim reset never takes more than 5 minutes from when such is requested.

  45. whisper2u

    Apr 25th, 2008

Whoa. This is getting like Serious Business or something. SL grinds sneezing and wheezing to a halt today, Little Blue Notices from LL start to appear on my screen saying their Asset Servers are being HAMMER ORBITED out past JUPITER or something, then SL shuts down and won’t let people back in… so I go over and read the Official SL Blog and what do i see:

    “65 DiSSENT Says:

This is not a mistake. This is an intentional attack. We are DiSSENTiON and we will continue to carry out these attacks until such time as Linden Lab complies with our demands.

Firstly, you don’t drop them in Uri’s inbox. Lurn2Herald.

Secondly, We already know what you guys have maintained that you were not griefers. I don’t believe it, nor does just about anyone else except apparently you guys. You don’t whine and cry when people like Prokofy accuse you of griefing now so why do you whine when I say that it is widely believed that you were actively griefing during those times? Do you need some tissue, Mr. Gustafson?

You blame LL as if they were making their own product shit on purpose. I’m indifferent about them and I’m sure they are making an effort. Honestly if SL and all the other virtual worlds closed for a month I wonder what all you people would do…

I know this will sound weird coming fro me, but do not bash the JLU just because of the comments of GLE here. He is a bad example of their membership, spouting hate speech and threating those who ask him to stop. Do not look to him as a standard of judgment for the JLU or the GLC, the membership of which is mostly far less doucheinese.
