SL Military : Divided

For those of you who don’t keep up with their events, there exist two treaties, the Ascendant Initiative, and the Iron Symphony. Most people will argue against this claim, but from what everyone seems to understand, the initial catalyst started when the Merczateers scripted together a riot shield. Upon testing it in the Alliance Navy headquarters, Dorien, without really any warning, the Alliance Navy considered it a shield, and sent a notice to the Mercz labeling them as a griefer military, and they had cleared tactics otherwise considered cheap and deplorable to be used against them.

Vehemently outraged by the insult, the Ordo Imperialis, Militant Collective, and Merczateers convened to collectively ban every member of the Alliance Navy, and let them fight either their allies, or smaller, less organized groups. Their intention was simply to never have to deal with the Alliance Navy’s pomp and circumstance, and overwhelming firepower, but as a plus, many of them hope that the AN will atrophy into disarray and die.

Yet the Iron Symphony was countered by a similar move, hoping to solidify the current treaty which had been written by Alliance Navy personnel, STABLE, which was made in response to the failed Merczateer treaty, MOSCOW. (Past references from last year may be found on the Herald.) Flanking the Alliance Navy in friendship are the 39th and Sparta, among other small military groups who come and go.

I fumbled my trusty pen as my communicator flashed, and the shadowy face of Jim Herbst’s gas-mask appeared before me. The wall behind him was a sandy brown, with caramel trim about the ceiling, floor, and his hair, a similar color, smoothly lined his well groomed head from underneath his cap of Admiralty. He nodded to me, tested his voice, which sounded oddly clear from behind a mask, and my interview with the Admiral began.

Proteus Hand: So, a huge lot of them have been claiming that their isolation strategy is actually working in weakening the Alliance Navy. What do you think about this?
Jim Herbst: Our recruiting numbers have been at their highest since November.
Proteus Hand: Cool.
Proteus Hand: What about combat prowess, troop morale, etc?
Jim Herbst: Well, it virtunally left no impact on Morale
Jim Herbst: and we get plenty of time to practice maneuvers and work on new guns when the mercz aren’t attacking us.
Proteus Hand: I figured you weren’t bluffing when you all said it wouldn’t make any difference.
Jim Herbst: I’m not much of a bluffer when it comes to things like this
Jim Herbst: I thought it was apparent to everyone that I was a terrible lyer.
Proteus Hand chuckles.
Proteus Hand: I figured you were like me and were just too lazy to.
Jim Herbst: Well, the truth is normally worse than a lie.
Proteus Hand: that’s SL for you.
Proteus Hand: It’s almost like a giant white lie incarnate.
Proteus Hand: Anyhow, before I get off topic, what sort of new technology have you pioneered?
Jim Herbst: Well, random stuff, I personally like some of our new fleet ship hulls, planes, and ordinance.
Proteus Hand: AN’s specialty, in my opinion.
Jim Herbst: Lest we forget our complete Marine Armory overhaul
Proteus Hand: I’ve noticed an armor upgrade.
Jim Herbst: With guns that lurdan tried to pay our animator for the animations for.

Clearly, hostilities had not cooled since the initial ban, so I decided to change the subject.

Proteus Hand: So, last I heard, you were giving them until, was it May? Until the standoff breaks down?
Jim Herbst: I am expecting the standoff to end before June
Jim Herbst: and I don’t call it a standoff.
Jim Herbst: I call it what it is.
Jim Herbst: They bant us from their sims
Jim Herbst: there is no standoff.
Jim Herbst: If they unbant us, our initial reaction would probably be shock, then an attack.
Proteus Hand: Do you think they know that?
Jim Herbst: I TOLD a couple of them that.
Proteus Hand: Interesting.
Proteus Hand: On a final note, who out of ALL of your hostiles would you say to be the most threatening?
Jim Herbst: Hmm
Jim Herbst: This will be a tough Choice
Jim Herbst: In what way?
Proteus Hand: How about on the battlefield, and then off.
Jim Herbst: On The Battlefield – The Brazillians
Proteus Hand: Really?
Jim Herbst: They are relentless
Jim Herbst: and above all
Jim Herbst: they cannot be negotiated with easily.
Jim Herbst: There is no drama with or about them
Jim Herbst: because it falls on deaf ears as it were.
Proteus Hand: I never expected the Brazillians.
Jim Herbst: I find them to be the perfect enemies.
Proteus Hand: what about off the battlefield?
Jim Herbst: I am not concerned about Ability as far as SL combat goes, anybody can get that.
Jim Herbst: A THREAT.. off the battlefield?
Jim Herbst: Copybotters.
Proteus Hand: Like the digital worlds scam that hit most militaries a few weeks ago?
Jim Herbst: Yeah
Jim Herbst: although not a threat in the traditional sense
Jim Herbst: moreso they proved that we’re a community as a whole
Jim Herbst: which a lot of us seem to forget.
Proteus Hand: Very true.

On that note, I felt satisfied with what I had gathered, and bid farewell to the Admiral, whom saluted me over the communicator. I switched my trusty technology off and snapped it shut before stuffing it in my pocket aside my pen, wondering if the bedlam would continue.

how is it that I find Kalel a bigger troll than Anonymous?

  2. Digital Worlds

“The owner of the sim Modish and the group Digital Worlds, shiney Sprocket, is on record openly giving the sim and the group to the PN and saying he didn’t care what they did with it”

Whaaaat…….. You couldn’t be more mistaken. The PN attacked Digital Worlds for the longest time because many members of the PN didn’t like the fact Ian dressed in a furry suit. So, this is incorrect part #1.

“(however he retains a residence in the sim, so presumably hes aware of what goes on there. Additionally, shiney was partnered with a PN member, Ian , who is the chief copybotter in the DW group, and remains there.”

Ian is a PN member?! LOL! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Please, tell me who told you this. I can’t believe how funny of an idea that actually is. The PN allowing Ian to be a memember! That is a riot. The PN would NEVER accept Ian for wearing a fur suit. Incorrect part #2.

“The only accounts banned were those banned by LL, the owners of which simply went and have made new ones and they remain involved in Digital Worlds, including Ian.”

Yes, They were banned by Linden Labs. Why ban an already banned account? Just wasting ban slots with that (they are limited). Not technically incorrect, but neither was what was said before, Ian was banned.

    SO TO SUMMARIZE:

#1, Digital Worlds has nothing to do with the PN and was previously under sustained attack from members of that group.

#2, Ian could never be a PN member because, as a PN has said, Ian runs around in a fur suit telling everyone what to do while role playing in a ship for an hour (real insult from PN member directed at Ian)

#3, Does Ian still come by Modish? YES. Is he allowed to place copy botted objects on land? NO. Is he allowed to copy things on the land? NO. Can I travel to his house and stop him from registering new accounts? NO. Does Digital Worlds encourage Ians actions? NO.

#4, shiney Sprocket lets anyone use the land who want to. It is just a giant sandbox. A 3D IRC. A virtual lego set. He does not control how other people decide to use Second Life and leaves those judgments up to Linden Labs.

“Reply to Digital Worlds: Also kindly explain why you have a strong anti-Sl military polite on your land then as well?
Not everyone is in Sl armies takes everything seriously and hell, alot of them are 4chaners/ /b/ tards, So why not let them come to your sim and have fun?”

Anti-SL military [police]? I have no idea what you are talking about. SL Militaries have nothing to do with Digital Worlds, for or against, don’t care. SL Military members are free to come to Modish and have fun. Nothing in the rules against that.

“reply to Digital Worlds: Then explain the anti-Sl military signs right at the spawn in point?”

THERE AREN’T ANY. There is a single sign that says a few rules and mentions NOTHING of SL Militaries. Only thing close it mentions is weapons testing…

I have no idea what you are talking about. All it says is:
“* Message Shiney Sprocket to Join the Group
    * Prim Spam will result in all objects being returned
    * Griefing is not tolerated by new users, contact admin before testing weapons
    * Users are allowed to keep structures on the land as long as they don’t greatly increase sim IPS or decrease sim FPS

REMEMBER: WE ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN! Not to pretend this is some alternate reality

*Furries are open game, if you are in a furry suit, don’t expect protection.”

What part of that say anything about SL Militaries?

As much as I hate to disagree with my CO, I point-blank can\’t see the STABLE 2 talks progressing any further than an adaptive ruleset (i.e. one for each sim) mirroring what we have today. You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can\’t please all of the people all of the time.

There exists as many ideas on how the military scene should function as there are members in the groups. There\’s certainly deviations on the main themes, but it all boils down to two core ideologies.

    1. \’The FPS\’: That the military scene should grow to a point like that in console FPS games, whereby each player is given a set of equipment that is available to everyone else and is allowed the flexibility to develop their own skills with said fixed inventory. Sort of reminiscent of the GunGrade system proposed in the MOSCOW treaty.

    2. \’The Arms Race\’: That the military scene should just keep growing. After all, LSL gives us the ability to claim technological advantages in the same vein as a real-life arms race. Through the skill of our members do we advance, and so why should it be limited to those with faster graphics cards than the enemy?

Each adopter of said ideologies believes him or herself to be right, and to have the better method. A perfectly reasonable assumption, to be sure. But the two are mutually exclusive. You frankly cannot have competitive technological development whilst still staying on level ground. I\’m advocating neither approach as the correct one (even though my natural affiliation leans towards \’The Arms Race\’), but for the military community to work as a whole it must, ironically, be split.

The Iron Symphony and the Ascendent Initiative could provide the perfect organisations to catalyse this development. You don\’t play Rugby after all; you either play Rugby Union or Rubgy League (I apologise to anyone not familiar with this analogy). Sure, the same player can play in both, but each has different rules, different leagues and yet you don\’t see them bickering about whose version is \’the better one\’. Come to think of it, that\’s left to the spectators.

Damnit, I meant to write a short post…

I can’t help but agree in every way with Squeezeone Pow. Far too long has the SL Military game sunk to it’s lowest lows. People have so much troubling putting aside their differances.

On many occasions I’ve spoken with Harlequin Salome(Seemed to me like 2 friends speaking to each other) And of course (I think) He and I have a great deal of respect for eachother and regeard each other highly. Jim Herbst and I speak well toward eachother.

I have whitnessed, though, them speaking of the Marshal’s of the Merczateers as though they were the scum of the earth. I really do think what happened in the past is what has caused the hate to start, and the involved parties stubborness to force the hatred to continue.

There are so many issues and accusations flying around after attack operations between -every- military in SL. If it were any worse we’d need Drama traffic coltrolers. I get really sick and tired of getting IM’s from people who only bitch and complain becasue they thought they saw one of us sithacking, offsetting, or cheating in some other way. We all keep a very close eye on what goes on during fights, we -know- when somthing bad happens.

I admit, I’ve gotten caught up in it myself a few times, but now I pay attention to my own actions. I never complain anymore I just go with the flow. Most of us in every military do just that, others do not and they are the ones causing the problems.

Of course there are other smaller things that only fuel this fire. That is, the definetion of what each person and group thinks combat should be in SL. Each military has a justified reason for thinking that way.

I myself have a very differant opinion on what would be considered fair or overpowered than Lurdan and Anthony have. I keep a balance in the Merczateers. I made a deal with Lurdan even. He wanted all Merczateer explosives limited to a 5m kill area, I agreed as long as he would agree to the addition of a salvo rule that allows our Anti-Ground aircraft the Skygrasper to fire 2 rockets at a timeand he agreed. My point is that we can all be reasoned with when we are spoken to as though we are a real human with a brain. If things don’t change then SL Military combat is going to become the shithole of SL and it’s goign to fill with the /b/tards who have nothing better to do but pester and annoy eachother, all of the good people will be forced to leave to get away from the idiocy and immaturity.

Proteus Hand violated SL age restrictions. His account and all accounts in association with his are subject to review and banning at Linden discretion even. FYI
