Stronger Protection for Virtual Sex Toys in SL

Stimulating prospects for fapping-based economy?

by Pixeleen Mistral, National Affairs desk

Benjamin Duranske reports at the Virtually Blind site that a judgement by consent has been filed, settling the copyright and trademark lawsuit brought by several SL content creators against SL resident Rase Kenzo’s real life typist Thomas Simon.

The content creators – including part time nude model Stroker Serpentine – will take away $525 USD in damages from Rase Kenzo – and priceless publicity for their products – having established a what Virtually Blind refers to as “the first formal, if tentative, recognition of virtual property by a U.S. court”. Stroker Serpentine’s SexGen bed is generally acknowledged to be a valued addition to many resident’s virtual McMansions and starter castles/dungeons – and unauthorized copies of the SexGen bed helped spark the lawsuit.

Observers speculated that this development could help lift the SL economy, which has recently been suffering from the ban on in-world casinos and the collapse of a number of L$ spacebuck banks.

It is widely believed that virtual sex related content drives SL’s in-world economic activity, and establishing stronger intellectual property protections could encourage more competition and variety in this area. While virtual vinyl simulated women sex toys are readily available, sex animations appropriate to the needs of niche markets – robots, elves, and small non-human avatars — such as weasels who have reached the age of consent – can be somewhat more difficult to locate. Growth in this area could stimulate the economy and raise the prospects of a new growth area as the gay, lesbian, hetro, and BDSM sex-toy markets near saturation

Sensitive to these economic trends, Linden Lab apparently follows developments in the niche sex areas more closely of late – as we can see in this video of Daniel Linden from earlier this year, where Daniel recounts how he learned of babyfurs and the impacts of Linden Lab’s anti-ageplay policies on this community.

That’s an interesting video, with some good points.

I think “fence” should be substituted with “ad farm,” however.

Love how “furfags” so freely flows from the agape drooling mouth of a retarded inbred neanderthal with “Ape” in his name.

lol, Penny, don’t you see the irony in calling me a retard due to an animal name, when you’re trying to defend furries who use associate themselves with animals that have less intelligence than an ape?

My fursona is a Rape-Ape, Penny, you’re fursecuting me.
