Linden Lab Censors Critic of JLU Gang Leader

by Pixeleen Mistral on 11/03/10 at 1:20 pm

Henry Darkthief alerted the Herald to a troubling pattern of selective censorship on the official Second Life blog that attempts to silence critics of well known vigilante gang leader Kalel Venkman. In a thread discussing greifers and stalkers Mr. Darkthief responded to Justice League Unlimited leader Kalel Venkman’s advice that players maintain abuse report records and track alt accounts, asking "Aren’t you the leader of Justice League Unlimited, who got exposed by the Herald for keeping secret files on SL Residents??" and linked to Herald coverage of the leaked Justice League Unlimited.

Venkman responded, claiming the Herald had helped "pirate hundreds of pages of a private wiki hoping to find dirt they never really found, suffered multiple DMCA takedowns, and finally both got kicked off of TypePad for it and lost the use of the Second Life trademark in their domain name. Their legal troubles just seem to be boiling over…".

When Mr. Darkthief refuted Venkman’s claims with a second comment containing links to Herald coverage of Venkman’s frivolous DMCA copyright complaint, Darkthief’s response was also removed. Venkman’s wild speculation still remains – a response that references a comment which no longer exists.

Why would Linden Lab remove Mr. Darkthief’s comments and leave Venkman’s misinformation in place? We can only speculate – perhaps JLU fanboy Plexus Linden is in charge of comment moderation at the Lab. Perhaps the JLU are holding abuse report parties targeting comments they dislike. Perhaps the Lab outsourced comment moderation to a low-bid contractor. We’d love to report further on this, but both Kalel Venkman and Plexus Linden refuse to talk to the Herald despite repeated requests for comment. What do they have to hide?

The text of Mr. Darkthief’s alert to the Herald is below:

Hi

I’ve been following your story regarding Kalel Venkman and the JLU and thought you might find the following interesting.

There’s a thread about griefers and stalkers that I checked out and saw that Kalel Venkman had responded advising the OP to keep a record. I thought it only fair that other readers should know a little about Kalel Venkman’s history regarding the keeping of records and posted my own comment with a link to your article. He replied stating that the Herald was in legal troubles over that and so I responded to that one with the info about your latest articles regarding those legal troubles. The next day (today), my two posts had been rejected without explanation. Its not that its too difficult to figure out who complained.

Please, feel free to publish this.

Henry Darkthief

Aren’t you the leader of Justice League Unlimited, who got exposed by the Herald for keeping secret files on SL Residents??

The Herald went way out on a limb, helped pirate hundreds of pages of a private wiki hoping to find dirt they never really found, suffered multiple DMCA takedowns, and finally both got kicked off of TypePad for it +and+ lost the use of the Second Life trademark in their domain name. Their legal troubles just seem to be boiling over, as they appear to be implicated in SLChan as well, and we all know that got taken down for trademark violations and and internet hate speech crimes, and the real life Woodbury University and Linden Lab both have their legal departments busy looking at the problem.
> It’s a huge, huge mess. It’s good to see that there’s finally something being done about it, though.
Oh? Why were you keeping a private wiki of information on residents? And weren’t those files +*given*+ to them by one of the members of JLU, rather than pirated? And it looks like those takedowns got overturned, in part by their successful claim of fair use combined with alleged false DMCA filings by you.

And here’s an interesting article regarding one of your Woodbury related actions …

And before you go making any allegations about me, I’m just a person who detests vigilantes and wannabe bullies.

Ok so watching and toying with a Superhero AR party earlier (to long to post here). I was granted proof that Kalel Venkman has no respect for a persons privacy:

Taken from the real JLU wiki. I asked why my wishes was not respected in that I was to be excluded and what proof there was that I am a known griefer. The informer could not comment – XD. I would have to speak with Kalel. I have IM’d him, I await a response!

The Lindens put on moderator duties are where they are because of the Dilbert principle: the incompetent are promoted to where they can do the least damage to essential systems. That does, however, seem to involve them in interacting with the public, again….

Have we heard back from Walker Spaight as to whats going on?

hehe, the pics are too funny.

As for the moderation, it is ironic only the opp posts to Kalel are removed.

Proof positive that all you have to do is strongly speak out against the JLU to be labeled as a griefer.

“Proof positive that all you have to do is strongly speak out against the JLU to be labeled as a griefer.”

Well that’s me stuffed then XD

I’d love to see my entry in their new wiki. It probably just says “mouthy cow with griefer sympathies” or something like that. Of course we’ll find out soon enough when the current version is leaked by another rogue insider.

    @Tux Winkler

The fact he stores your key, is proof positive he requires it for purposes of future harassment and stalking by singling you out with what ever radar scripts they have?

TOS:(x) “stalk”, abuse or attempt to abuse, or otherwise harass another user.

So what? he expects to see you griefing on that account and wants to be alerted the moment one of his prims detects you, so he can teleport in his army and ar report you?

If his radar scripts detect you, does it flash up a warning griefer? to all members in the area or who are online at the time and say your location?

And does that count as premeditated defamation?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defamation

I do read your blog and I find the post about the latest ar party disturbing.

Personally I see Kalel more like the pic link below.

I hope Kalel has some basic etiquette to not list you as anything more verbally defaming than the girl he could not ask out?

Now that I think about it…. that’s got to be worse than being called a griefer.

Unless we have moved on from the playground? at the moment with his actions it don’t seem so.

Guy dresses as Superman, builds criminal database and with Linden Labs help becomes a force to harrass other residents that Linden Labs might not like.

Disgusting…. I hope he lists me on his dirty little wiki as a sympathizer, I’m proud to say I understand!

I have barely searched through the wiki as of late so I went to the site you hosted Tux. Just……wow. Some stuff I never saw before. I won’t have actual internet for a day or two due to moving, so the HTML pages will do for tonight’s read.

Anyway, hm…..there’s a poster I wanted to find for sheer irony, but I can’t seem to. Maybe I have it in my old poster folders, I’d have to check.

LOL, you stole their wiki, of course they don’t like you! What did you expect?

  12. Wyrdwolf Legion

    Their wikki was NOT stolen.
It was placed in the public domain by a member of the JLU.
    Sutble difference, i know…………

I read one particular article in the wiki last night. It involved Nomad using chat bug objects and someone else accusing him of such, constantly showing him the bug scanner results showing three as owned by him, and Nomad insisting that the scripts were false/incorrect.

It was……interesting, to say the least.

I didn’t steal the wiki – XD – I do wish I had something to do with it though. I could then say: Yeah your partly right!

But I cannot even do that. I am just a bit of server space.

Whoever did (and I don’t know who it was) did a good thing IMO.

Sometimes it seems to me like Linden Labs is the Wicked Witch of the West, and the JLU are like all the evil flying monkeys that go out and do its bidding. weird haw?
